ERROR CODE P1740 or PI 740 - DODGE RAM 1500
From : sillysamiam
Q: according to what i can find it refers to solenoid in the transmission. if i remove the battery connection that service engine light doesnt come on again until i drive over 60 miles an hour. i can drive around for several days and the service engine light will not come on. once i bring the speed up over 60 miles an hour it takes about 15 minutes to 30 minutes and the light will come on. from experimenting with this i can bring the truck up to 60 mph and the rpm about 1800. if i hard speed up to 65 or more the rpm goes up equally and when i let it off the rpm drops down to about 2000. if i slow speed up to 65 the rpm goes up faster than equal and then when i let it off the rpm drops to less than 2000. so in these experiments it seems the error code is about the transmission going into and out of overdrive. by letting up on the gas after 60 mph i can manually get the transmission to shift. i if i dont do it manually by letting up on the gas the service engine light comes on. what is the cost to replace whatever needs to be replaced to fix the problem or does it hurt to drive it this way .

error code p1740 either the tcc solenoid or overdrive solenoid systems doesnt seem to be making much sense. can someone tell what i am looking at what it is how to fix it it came on a few days ago. unhooked battery for a few minutes and reconnected. the service engine light stayed off. it didnt come back on for three days. it seems only after the truck is runat 70 mph for a period of time. doesnt seem to want to come on when driving at lower speeds. .
