EGT Gauge Readings

Q: cigarski wrote im considering the michelin ltx m/s. anyone here have any experience with these any other suggestions. i still need decent snow traction for the ski season in ny/vt. i live in jersey so the a/ts are kind of overkill. i have these on my dakota. great tire. they are quiet and smooth on the highway handle well in the corners and work great in the snow. i highly recommend them. last nov i drove from utah to colorado springs in a blizzard. never had a traction problem. -- ..bob 1997 hd fxdwg - turbocharged! 2001 dodge dakota qc 5.9/4x4/3.92 1966 mustang coupe - daily driver 1966 ffr cobra - ongoing project .

iirc the manual for my ram said that you need to use a breakout box and jumper a few pins to communicate with the antilock brake controller. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving for some reason all i get is no communication engine and tranny works fine but body and abs no response. well theres no body control module on a dak so thats out. and as far as i know the abs system is dealer-proprietary - only a drbiii can talk to it every independent shop ive talked to has always said dealer-only when it came to anything to do with the abs system .

on tue 03 may 2005 024430 gmt kurt ekej51@earthlink.net wrote has anyone out there seen and or checked their front door seals nearest the rear view mirrors on my new 2004 quad cab the seals interfere with the door and have already broken. ok the dealer replaced them with new ones and the interference remains so they also will break in a few weeks. dodge sure did some lousy engineering on those seals maybe someone needs to start a class action suite to get some redesigned seals on those doors. emil ayah last summer there was a thread here on that and i checked my 2004 2500 reg cab and the seals were damaged on both sides. nice design work. anyway the dealer offered to replace the seals but as they still did not leak and new ones would get quickly damaged i left well enough alone. once the seals were notched by the front door corner they have stabilized and not gotten any worse. i may clean-up the notches with a sharp knife which is about all that can be done short of new doors. woody; 95fxds .

you know i was going to use the excess that came with the gauge but although it said it could be used with oil to not use it for fuel. ive been using it for well over a year... not a problem. gasoline. i just want it to work forever and never leave me stranded sounds like my wife. it wont ever leave you stranded. heck if you want carry an 1/8 pipe plug with you. if anything ever happens with the fuel isolator/gauge just remove the line from the tapped banjo and plug it with the pipe plug. good enough for me tom thanks. -- fmb only one b in fmb .

he suggested i go to napa and pick up a grease gun hose for the connection between the banjo bolt and the isolator. you could do that - its just a rubber hose with 1/8-npt fittings on each end. if you look at the picture of my isolator i just used a brass 1/8npt to 1/8 compression fitting on each end pump side and isolator and ran a length of 1/8 plastic tubing should have come with the gauge. this way youre not limited to the length of the grease gun hose. .

tbone a quote from you regarding this issue. as i am a glutton for punishment 1 more question. is there any difference in the tail end of the standard tranny on a 2wd as opposed to a 4wd in other words do they interchange because of the xfer case before i get flamed for lack of technical prowess i have not physically seen any yet and am just asking to save research time. tbone nov 19 2003 1145 am show options from tbone fatcha...@noway.now - find messages by this author date wed 19 nov 2003 114036 -0500 local wednov 19 2003 1140 am subject re will any nv4500 tranny fit into a 99 ram 1500 4x4 reply to author | forward | print | individual message | show original | report abuse well if it is so easy do it! dont forget a wiring harness and figure in some time and money for the unforeseen to get this hogepoge togather. i always allow for problems when starting a project. i already learned that the hard way. the problem here is that you have no idea of the possible problems that you may run into. but i do question your knowledge and then your ability to do this swap i managed to install a body lift 5 suspension lift 3/4 ton axles and custom stereo system myself so i am pretty sure i can handle it these are all mickey mouse jobs compared to the one that you are planning to undertake. when you have to ask if the bell housing from your auto will fit a standard tranny! i havent been able to look under the truck or hunt for a standard due to the heavy rains so i was using an alternate form of research. is that such a bad idea i am sure i would be able to tell by looking if i could right now. a tranny shop on the internet said i might be able to use my existing one which sounded odd to me but it doesnt hurt to ask or so i thought. and this would be your first problem. just looking isnt gonna tell you shit. although they may look the same doesnt mean that a few of the trans mounting bolts might not be in slightly different locations. then there is the small fact of mounting points for the clutch components or access for the hydraulics. many people tend not to add the labor costs and aggravationeven if it is their own time and aggravation into the equation. he will soon find that it is not worth the trouble although by then it will be to late. i hate automatics. then why did you buy one they go out constantly and are too expensive to repair. that is not always true and if properly maintained seem to do quite well. there will be little labor cost as i am doing it myself. then you consider your time worthless i was told the axle swap wasnt worth the trouble and it damn sure was. an axle swap is easy compared to what you are trying to do. truck has brakes way better than stock now and 4.10 gears to boot. not to mention heavier hubs and ball joints. while that may be true what you are now attempting is much harder to do but lets talk about that a little. iirc you have a 1500 4x4 with an automatic. the bell housing for an automatic will probably not be usable with the nv4500 and will need to be replaced. then there is the pilot bushing / bearing that will also probably also need to be replaced since i doubt that a torque converter needs the same thing as a clutch. btw is this a 360 engine with its external balancing either way you need to replace the flex plate and torque converted with a flywheel and the 360 has special needs. now since 1500 and 2500/3500 use different frames and the nv4500 was never offered in the 1500 series there is a chance that the mounting points between a nv3500 and nv4500 are different and that there is no mount available for this trans in the 1500 guess who gets to make one. then lets not forget that you have a 4wd and that just increases the fun. it would say that the chances are pretty good that the nv4500 will not bolt up to the nv231hd transfer case that your truck uses so guess what you will need to replace the transfer case as well with the nv241hd which was also not offered in the 1500 series and now we are back to the possible mounting problems again. while still on the transfer case does yours have the electric shift or the mechanical linkage. what will the one you are replacing it with have and are you ready to make the necessary changes then there is a length issue. i doubt that the length of the trans / transfer case between the current auto and the standard trans are going to be the same so a new set of driveshafts will probably also need to be added to the list. then there is the electrical problems. the automatic does not use the same wiring harness or computer that the standard shift uses. while the wiring harness issue may not be a killer the computer can be. iirc the computer has the vehicle vin number as well as stores the m

ok now that its warm enough finally! to open the windows ive noticed a rattling coming from the backend of my 4x4 dak. the rattle appears to be either just something loose or something in the suspension since its directly related to how bumpy the road is and the trucks probably due for new shocks - getting that checked is on my to-do list. i cant quite pinpoint the sound from within the cab and cant see anything amiss when i look around. admittedly though im hardly an expert. any suggestions on where i should look or how i can narrow down where the rattles coming from i found that the drivers side wheel well cover was loose but turns out that wasnt the problem bummer. the trucks unprotected metal is rusting prematurely due to englands nearly constantly wet climate and constant application of salt on the roads all winter so its certainly something to consider that a small bracket or something has rusted enough to break. gaaa. seems like the death of a thousand paper cuts with this truck recently. nothing really serious cept the rotors that failed inspection just lots of little things that are stacking up. jmc .

trout wrote hi i recently purchased a set of mopar foglights for my 04 ram. this came with a seperate pushbutton switch rather than the factory headlamp switch which controls the parking lamps headlamps and the foglights. i thought this was really cheap of chrysler. but anyway the directions indicate that one of the wires on the supply harness should be spliced into the left headlight lowbeam wiring. seeing that this unit did not come with the factory switch is it really necessary to wire it into the lowbeam lamp i assume if its not it will just work all the time if turned on and wont be contigent upon headlight on/off status thanks in advance. blair blair you are correct in that you do not have to splice into the low-beam wire you can get that signal from any 12v source you like as that is only the trigger signal for the relay. a couple of cautions though if you are considering using a different source. first use a switched circuit so that you cannot accidentally leave your fog lights on when leaving the truck unless you want that ability. second it may be illegal in your location to burn the fog lights with anything except running lights and/or low beams on check with your local state patrol or dmv for this. next you may not need to mount this switch. on most notice i did not say all

lights. look behind the front bumper on the drivers side around where the fog light mounts. if you see a harness with an open plug you are pre-wired and your install just got a whole lot easier. you can go to www.dodgeparts.com and order the headlight switch with fog light feature $40.05 and a wiring harness $28.16 that will allow you to do exactly what you are wanting a factory appearing fog light install. for more discussions on this install and a complete wiring diagram check out www.dodgetruckworld.com. i do not know if this install will work without the pre-wiring installed. that is what i am facing on my 2004 st model. good luck! rob . 222 300225 yxqde.4194$1z2.312902@twister.southeast.rr.com ok ill ask. why is it any harder to convert a 1500 then it is to convert a 2500 -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving i wanted to go the other way on my 1500 when the crap auto tranny went out. after being beat to death by the group i decided it wasnt feasible. was only possible on the 2500 and up. trying to remember if its feasible to switch out stick for an automatic or automatic to stick. what are my options on 2004 stick i dont like the stick that comes with the truck . harder to resell a stick .
