Q: torben tedliq@cisco.com wrote im attempting to replace a leaky water pump on a 1999 dodge ram 1500 van with the v6. i cant seem to find any way to lock down the pulley mechanism in order to remove the viscous fan assembly. i can see 4 concentric holes in the face of the pulley but i really dont see any way to lock into them to spin the 39mm nut without both mechanisms interfearing. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks you need kd tools #3471 universal pulley holder or #3472 pulley holder and wrenches as pictured here http//www.mytoolstore.com/kd/kdengi06.html#3471 if there are no bolts holding the pulley to the water pump hub you can slip two bolts thru the holes you mentioned and then grab them with the universal pulley holder. autozone napa etc may have these to loan or rent... .

im looking at the westach high output combo boost/egt-50psi setup dual gauge and i see i have a choice of 1/8 and 1/4 npt. what are the advantages/disadvantages of these two sizes it would be for my 03 2500 ho. the 1/8 and 1/4 npt sizes refer to the hole and threads that need to be tapped in the exhaust manifold for the pyro thermocouple. there is no advantage to either size whatever is easier for you to install. i would recommend using the 1/8 npt however. just in case something goes haywire with the drilling and tapping of your exhaust manifold using the 1/8 npt you can always fall back on the 1/4 npt. if you are buying your gauges from genos they incluse a boost bolt that replaces one of the intake manifold bolts to allow access to a pressure input. the 35psi gauge is plenty for a standard ho engine however plan for the future! mike im also looking for a fuel pressure gauge. what range should this be in speaking of ranges the boost gauge goes to 50psi. i havent done any mods as yet might in the future is this the right range for the boost gauge would anybody recommend a third gauge if i didnt have an automatic transmission i have the 6sp manual. if so what and why lastly im going to mount these in a windshield pod http//www.genosgarage.com/coastaldata/showdetl.cfm&did=30&productid=1638&catid=1 or http//tinyurl.com/4tx4e for short at genos. anybody have any experiences with this particular pod -- fmb only one b in fmb .

homebrewer wrote no problem with the load. the damn thing is rated at more than 6tons. i just paid 24k for new 2004 4x4 quad with a moderate package including power seats split window upgraded sound tow package and a bunch of other goodies. depends a lot what you want for options. options can move the price more than 5k in a heartbeat. the 2005s shouldnt be much more. id expect to paid an extra 2k-3k for a 05 as the 04 was a left-over. i got the same thing just a few hours ago. except mine was pre-owned with 20k miles. i thought i was getting a good deal at 22k and i didnt really need the 4x4. oh well im happy with it! yea its got a hemi cerritos dodge in cerritos ca. is advertizing hemi quad cabs for 18k. slts i think but dont hold me to that. also i dont know if these are new 04s or 05s. great deal if you ask me. jeff .

just got back from an oil change on my durango and noticed the dealer forgot to put the oil filter cover back. i had to go back and the technician unwillingly went to the garage and brought it out. i know its just a stupid plastic cover but the next week i am having both differentials serviced and my confidence is shot. how often do these experts forget to put the parts back how common is this do i need a six star dealer lac i dont have an answer but heres what i do. when having work done at the dealer i ask the service dood if i could meet the technician working on my truck. they never have said no. i usually say something like this is my baby do you understand what im saying and they usually say sure do mister ill treat her right. i rarely have a problem with the techs. and if i do they know and i know im gonna be naming names. and handing the tech a six-pack will assure that he will remember you for when you come in the next time. find a tech you like and request him every time you come in. denny .

thanks gents ill give both a try. as far as i understand it the thread is reversed so i need to wack the other way yes i can see 4 concentric holes in the face of the pulley but i really dont see any way to lock into them to spin the 39mm nut without both mechanisms interfearing. i usually leave the serpentine belt on put a big wrench on the fan nut and strike the wrench with a mallet. the friction of the belt combined with the sudden impact on the wrench usually breaks the nut loose. conversely i re-install the fan first holding the fan stationary and turning the pulley to thread the spindle into the fan clutch then re-install the serpentine belt and whack the nut once clockwise to tighten it. absent the special tool to hold the hub toms method works just fine. if you find that the hub still turns instead of the nut you can create extra belt tension by depressing the belt between the pulleys. mike .
