Q: transurgeon wrote seems i recall there was a tsb out by dc recommending the service departments change all vehicles to atf+4 as they came into the shops. i assume this was if the customer agreed to the change as it wasnt necessary if the customer didnt want it. last time i had my truck serviced 99 cummins auto i asked the service manager about this and he said he would change over if i wish but he recommended i stick with the atf+3 because of price. in addition you can buy atf+3 from several different companies. he also told me once you switch to atf+4 you cannot switch back to atf+3. wrong you can switch or mix 3 or 4 in a vehicle requiring type 3 no that is not correct. this is from the tsb note atf+4 is compatible with atf+3 and atf+2. atf+4 can be used to top off vehicles that currently have atf+2 or atf+3. do not use atf+2 or atf+3 to top off vehicles that have atf+4 fluid. so if you read carefully you see you can add atf+4 to atf+3 but you cannot add atf+3 to atf+4. in other words once you completely change over to atf+4 there is no going back unless of course you can drain 100% of the fluid out first. that is not what it says jerry. if you can add atf+4 to atf+3 then it makes absolutely no sense that you cant do it the other way. the reason that they say this is because atf+3 does not have the required properties for a vehicle requiring atf+4 and using it to top up a atf+4 transmission will weaken those properties possibly to the point of doing harm. if the transmission only required atf+3 or lower to begin with it really doesnt matter which one you use or how you mix them but who in their right mind would pay the expense of a atf+4 conversion and then add atf+3 to it later anyway. this tsb is making the assumption that the vehicle with atf+3 requires atf+3 and the vehicle using atf+4 requires atf+4 and is not taking upgrades of atf+3 transmissions into account. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

get the code read again to make sure you are still dealing with the same problem. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving check engine light has been on for about 2 months got it checked out when it first came on at autozone. they said the code reflected a small minor fuel system leak perhaps a faulty gas cap replaced and reset check engine light or a vacuum leak. well the engine check light is back on... any ideas on where to start thanks kevin .

im at a point where ill be needing a brake controller myself in the next 3-4 weeks. ive looked at both of these site and a question i havent found an answer to is whats the significance of a sef-leveling controller. what is it about trailers or controllers and leveling requirements that i need to be aware of ill be pulling a 14 dual axle utility trailer with aprox 4 tons in it. the vehicle is an 05 2500 quad cab 4x4 ram. thanks david... david some controllers have an internal pendulum which via inertia detects when the vehicle is slowing and activates a variable resistor which governs voltage output to the brakes. this pendulum must be mounted more or less perpendicular to the ground in order to function correctly. usually a controller will have markings on it which guide you as to how out of level it can be mounted. the prodigy which uses a solid state inertia sensor is not as sensitive to being off level and is thus self-leveling. hope this helps! mike -- whatever else history may say about me when im gone i hope it will record that i appealed to your best hopes not your worst fears; to your confidence rather than your doubts. my dream is that you will travel the road ahead with libertys lamp guiding your steps and opportunitys arm steadying your way. -- president ronald reagan 1992 republican national convention i know we did this a year or so ago but i wasnt paying attention. i demand a mulligan. i need to install a new one in my new 3500 dually. my new rv will be a 34 foot keystone mountaineer with two axels. although i plan on keeping the truck for 1 million miles i might want to pull something with more axels down the road. with that in mind im thinking about getting the tekumsha prodigy controller. last i saw it cost about 175.00 and will prolly install it myself since it doesnt have to be mounted in a level spot. pros-n-cons -- moparman---remove clothes to reply! --scud coordinates 32.61204 north 96.92993 west-- .

does anyone have one of these i have not been able to find one to test drive so any thoughts or informaiton would be appreciated. would like to know if the shifting is smooth and sure what the performace is like esp. vs. the auto trans and what the gas milage is like. i did drive one with an automatic transmission and liked it but i was thinking that a manual would offer better performance milage and control. does anyone know if this is true i know this is true. i have a six speed diesel and it is a pig from a stop light. the transmission is very stout and not much good for trying to accelerate quickly. also have a 5 speed dodge and it has a wide split between third and fourth but you can shift it a lot quicker than the six speed. al .
