Does a 180-degree thermostat affect engine life, etc?

Q: put a 180-degree thermostat in to replace the factory 195 and it cured the ping on a 99 ram 1500 with the 5.2l. question what are the side effects if any like does it mess up the computer --sensing the engine is too cool and runs a rich mixture etc 41k miles gets driven about 15 miles a day. havent checked mpg since i installed it last week. thanks-- gary cary nc .
