the 4wd actuator motor on my 90 w150 pu rusted out and had to be replaced. it is really just a diaphram and piston that slides a gear back and forth. it is about 4 in diameter and is driven by vacuum from the transmission. the motor is around $225 from the dealer. the issue with yours could be as simple as a vacuum leak on the hose that pulls the piston toward the 2wd position. mine failed in the 2wd position for what thats worth. best of luck with it ! spence via carkb.com wrote snoman i agree with what you said about the front hubs! would the 4 wheel stay engaged even though the bearings were dried out i have done some research on this vehicle and sounds like some type of vacuum system engages the 4 wheel drive. there is not manual hubs on the outside as with the other older 4 wheel drives i have had or worked on in the past. there is 187000 miles on the motor which is a 318 and it runs really well without a miss at idle or acceleration. i brought it home yesterday and found some type of drive gear about the size of an outer bearing in the floorboard rapped in a towel. he told me on the phone he had other parts to give me that i have not yet gotten. thanks for your response spencer m. -- message posted via carkb.com http//www.carkb.com/uwe/forums.aspx/dodge-truck/200506/1 chysler used a vacum operated disconnect on front axle that you need to check its operation. the front axle ujoints will aways turn but the differentail will disconnect when it 2wd. if disconnected you will be able to spin front drive shaft by hand when truck is in 2wd -- posted using the http//www.autoforumz.com interface at authors request articles individually checked for conformance to usenet standards topic url http//www.autoforumz.com/dodge-1985-ramcharger-4x4-debate-ftopict125093.html visit topic url to contact author reg. reqd. report abuse http//www.autoforumz.com/eform.phpp=609950 .

does it not have a 7 year power train warranty. i dont know if the lemon law applies to that or not that is why i asked. now why is it that you have to jump in and be a fucking asshole all of the time i must agree with beekeep it must really suck to be you. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving on a 2000 youre even dumber than i thought why dont you just go after them under the lemon law and get your money back -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving my 2000 ram 1500 dodge truck was a great runner. no problems at all. good gas mileage. just a damn fine truck. then the service engine light came on. took it shottenkirk dodge on broadway in quincy il. the service manager said the code said it was a transmission problem. i have a drive train warranty so no problem. three months later. when i went to get it the first time and started home it would shift 1st to 2nd ok but when you went to slow down there was this clunk like it was trying to shift up or down. then when i went to speed up from 40 mph it started to shudder. after several times in the dealership sometimes for a couple of days sometimes for a week. they would change the shift patterns so the shudder would move up paqst 60 mph. but when they did that it screwed up the shift pattern. 1st to 2nd ok. 2nd to 3rd ok. 3rd wouldnt shift in 4th until 53 mph and at 52 mph it would downshift to 3rd. after 3 months shottenkirk of quincy il. gave me my keys and said they couldnt fix it. so i drove it that way for 3 or 4 months when another dodge dealer little jess dodge of edina missouri contacted me about a new truck. when i told him about my problem with shottenkirk of quincy il little jess said they could fix the problem. 6 solid weeks later he sent the truck to another dealer and told me i could go there and pick it up. now the truck is worse than before. little jess said they rebuilt the transmission completely. now from 1st to 2nd up to 15mph. but in 2nd you have to go faster than 35 mph for it to shift into 3rd and at 30 mph it will downsfit to 2nd. it will stay into third until 45 mph and under 40 mph it will downshift to 3rd. it will not shift into 4th until 53 mph and under 53 mph it will downshift to 3rd. when it is in 2nd and you speed up to say 32 or better and you let up on the gas it will clank and shift into 3rd and if you give it any gas it will downshift back to 2nd. the gas mileage has gone down 20%. i contacted dodge company and they said they cant get into any disputes and refuse answer any emails. i guess i will end up trading back to a chevy. .

no but you defended that erroneous statement what statement would that be you were the one to say that it was false and then went out of your way to prove that it was true. now before you completely spin it the key word was produce not create. you never said it was incorrect just jump on my correction because your correction served no purpose but to jump on somebody over semantics. you truly are an idiot incapable of admitting your screw-ups where did i screw up gary you accused me of doing something that i didnt do and admitted to it here and accused someone of being wrong and then went on to prove that he was in fact correct. talk about someone being unable to admit to screw-ups. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .
