oil pressure problem here when i start my truck for the day its a 1990 dodge d200 360 engine. the oil pressure by the gage is fine however after a short drive on the highway into the city the oil pressure drops on the gage and the light comes on. this only happens once the engine is fully warmed up. any ideas out there -- posted using the http//www.autoforumz.com interface at authors request articles individually checked for conformance to usenet standards topic url http//www.autoforumz.com/dodge-low-oil-pressure-ftopict108416.html visit topic url to contact author reg. reqd. report abuse http//www.autoforumz.com/eform.phpp=506593 .

i have a question for you diesel experts. i have a 2003 dodge 3500 cummins diesel truck. it is the 5 speed. i changed the oil and filter at 10000 miles using rotella 15w-40. no problems. then at 20000 miles i changed the oil and filter again with rotella 15w-40. right after i did that i smelled what smelled like burnt oil. i looked and looked but nothing found. i didnt spill any either. this lasted for about 300 miles. someone else told me that the smell is common with rotella. after the smell stopped at 300 miles i decided to accept that explaination. well now after 1000 miles since that oil change i am down 1 qt of oil. i am starting to wonder what is going on. i shouldnt be down a qt of oil already. my first oil change went 10000 miles without losing any oil. now why is this going on any advice is greatly appreciated. bob .

bob the odor that you refer to is quite common with rotella and as you observed goes away after several hundred miles. as to why your ctd is down a quart of oil i cant answer. i would recheck it in a day or two to confirm the oil loss and then i would monitor it for any signs of external leakage. chryco service manager member sae i have a question for you diesel experts. i have a 2003 dodge 3500 cummins diesel truck. it is the 5 speed. i changed the oil and filter at 10000 miles using rotella 15w-40. no problems. then at 20000 miles i changed the oil and filter again with rotella 15w-40. right after i did that i smelled what smelled like burnt oil. i looked and looked but nothing found. i didnt spill any either. this lasted for about 300 miles. someone else told me that the smell is common with rotella. after the smell stopped at 300 miles i decided to accept that explaination. well now after 1000 miles since that oil change i am down 1 qt of oil. i am starting to wonder what is going on. i shouldnt be down a qt of oil already. my first oil change went 10000 miles without losing any oil. now why is this going on any advice is greatly appreciated. bob .
