Diesel chip tuners?

From : d l

Q: heya! been a long time since ive been in this ng but i just drove home saturday night with my new baby.....brand spanking new 2004 ram 2500 quad cab 4x4 slt plus a few other options with the new cummins 600!!. pure heaven. now that im officially a diesel drivin dude something ive been wondering about for some time. i see banks and bully dog etc have plug-in keypad devices to re-tune the chips in the diesel trucks. they claim up to 100+hp and 200+ lb-ft of torque gain. seeing as the cummins is capable of a lot more than it puts out in the pick ups i can see this as a valid claim. how much does this damage the engine though what about the transmission i have the 48re auto i wanted a 6-speed manual but in this part of texas i was lucky to even find a 2500 diesel truck still sitting at a dealership so my choices were pretty limited. either way i doubt i will ever add one of those tuning devices....so far i find 325hp and 600 lb-ft of torque to be quite adequate and i wont be pulling heavy loads very often if at all....of course the notion of possibly smoking some dude in his hemi powered 1500 is enticing ;-.....pull up to him at a light..hey that got a hemi in it....yeah! does that....no!...see ya!....zing! lol! seriously though i admit i got the diesel for mileage and longevity primarily and they just sound friggin cool. im just curious if the chip programmer things really work and what ill effects they have on the drivetrain if any. one thing i would definitely be interested in would be any device that increases mpg with the cummins. right now its getting about 17 mpg which is nothing to sneeze at considering the size and weight of this truck and its about 4 mpg better than my 2002 1500 got with the 4.7l. i figure after break-in it might be good for another 2-3 mpg but anyhting over that would be even better. thanks! p.s. if anyone recalls im the guy that did the engine swap out on my old 95 ram v-6 to 5.9l v-8.... -----= posted via feeds.com uncensored usenet =----- http//www.feeds.com - the #1 group service in the world! -----== over 100000 groups - 19 different servers! =----- .

oops disregard.....just read a great post up the page about fueling boxes and the associated matrix. seems these things do work but theres a lot more to it than just hooking one up and off you go. think ill just pass on these....although a timing box that increases fuel economy could be a good thing.... heya! been a long time since ive been in this ng but i just drove home saturday night with my new baby.....brand spanking new 2004 ram 2500 quad cab 4x4 slt plus a few other options with the new cummins 600!!. pure heaven. now that im officially a diesel drivin dude something ive been wondering about for some time. i see banks and bully dog etc have plug-in keypad devices to re-tune the chips in the diesel trucks. they claim up to 100+hp and 200+ lb-ft of torque gain. seeing as the cummins is capable of a lot more than it puts out in the pick ups i can see this as a valid claim. how much does this damage the engine though what about the transmission i have the 48re auto i wanted a 6-speed manual but in this part of texas i was lucky to even find a 2500 diesel truck still sitting at a dealership so my choices were pretty limited. either way i doubt i will ever add one of those tuning devices....so far i find 325hp and 600 lb-ft of torque to be quite adequate and i wont be pulling heavy loads very often if at all....of course the notion of possibly smoking some dude in his hemi powered 1500 is enticing ;-.....pull up to him at a light..hey that got a hemi in it....yeah! does that....no!...see ya!....zing! lol! seriously though i admit i got the diesel for mileage and longevity primarily and they just sound friggin cool. im just curious if the chip programmer things really work and what ill effects they have on the drivetrain if any. one thing i would definitely be interested in would be any device that increases mpg with the cummins. right now its getting about 17 mpg which is nothing to sneeze at considering the size and weight of this truck and its about 4 mpg better than my 2002 1500 got with the 4.7l. i figure after break-in it might be good for another 2-3 mpg but anyhting over that would be even better. thanks! p.s. if anyone recalls im the guy that did the engine swap out on my old 95 ram v-6 to 5.9l v-8.... -----= posted via feeds.com uncensored usenet =----- http//www.feeds.com - the #1 group service in the world! -----== over 100000 groups - 19 different servers! =----- -----= posted via feeds.com uncensored usenet =----- http//www.feeds.com - the #1 group service in the world! -----== over 100000 groups - 19 different servers! =----- .
