Diesel Wierdness

From : Annonymous

Q: craig this is normal behavior. what is happening is the electrical inlet air heaters are cycling due to the cold conditions. this will continue for about 3 minutes or longer when very cold. if you watch your voltmeter you can see the drag on the alternator. steve hi i am new to the diesel world. i have a 2004 ram 2500 with the cummins 600. it has 8000 miles and i have been noticing since the weather has gotten colder that it behaves a bit strangely on startup. when i start it it pulsates. if you get in the cab the lights in the dash and the air blowing from the vents pulsates in unison. once the truck warms up all the pulsing stops and it runs very smooth and quiet. is this normal behavior or do i need to take it in thanks craig c. .

phyloe wrote my 2000 ram 1500 has the 5.2 v8 fi. last time i checked i was getting 13 mpg. i have not checked this tank but it is going to be dismal with just over 300 miles and the get gas light is on! i am a more conservative driver and expected to get more like 18 to 20 mpg. i am going to add some sea foam tomorrow when i fill up but i do not think i should have to do that. this is my first fi engine. it seems to run great no missing hesitation or anything like that. any suggestions on why the mileage is so bad what can i do phyloe thats what they get. if i lead foot my 4x4 dak 5.2 i get 10 mpg feather it and drive like granny i get 12. changed replaced inspected and cleaned everything i could under the hood trans and difs no change at all. at least my motorcycle gets 50+ mpg so the truck is my weekend wheels only now so the bad fuel economy doesnt bother me tooo much. .

heck winter is just getting started and up here in wonderful wisconsin the temperature just barely edged into winter type numbers last week when it was hovering around 0f to +5f for the high each day with night time temps of around -15f to -20f. thats in the range of -25c to -30c for most of the civilized world. it will get kind of cold in another few weeks when winter settles in and becomes a bit more serious. bob alright who stole my battery heated longjohns so i guess i would piss off a few folks if i said it was about 75+ at the beach on christmas eve here is some warm socal christmas cheer for you guys in the snow. http//www.socalrider.net/2004/christmas/sandman.jpg been a family tradition for 14 years now. christmas eve we go to the beach and make a sand man. .

montanajeeper@aol.com wrote lol ......... sorry nate being cheap doesnt make something superior. popular maybe but not superior. cheaper is only one reason. you get more choices in .45 acp....you can even get it in a snub-nose revolver. you can get .45 ammunition anywhere. you can customize a 1911 endlessly. it is proven. with nearly identical ballistics this is what youre left with and this is why i feel the acp is superior. youre tripping all over yourself nate. the 45acp has been around a long time so naturally there are more customized parts available. but why spend a lot of money to make something shoot better when you can buy it out of the box for one third the price. you want to throw in the 1911 but leos wont carry it. pc makes cocked and locked forbidden in public and only 7 rounds in the magazine is under gunned. if you have one that has more than 7 rounds then you dont have a true 1911 now do you. apples to oranges. they didnt just shorten the case. my point remains. its going to take more than modifying the case to overthrow the acp. using a higher pressure propellent is irrelevant. they had to use a higher pressure propellant because they couldnt fit as much in the shortened case. using a higher pressure propellant there is no such thing. i said the round produces higher pressure. modifying the case........ never said that either. said they produced a new case to meet the needs of the higher pressure. want to take a guess where the high pressure comes from.............. if you were really being realistic you would use facts instead of biased opinions with no support. youre kidding me right you have not refuted a single statement ive made concerning why the acp is superior. lol ........ you havent produced a single statement of proof yet. produce one single cite as i did several for you and ill be glad to debate it with you. sorry nate but you are simply blowing smoke now. we arent talking about the .40 were talking about the .357 sig. thats true but you were clambering that the 45acp was so popular it was going to take over the world......simply no so now is it. a handful of leo may still use it .357 sig but thats all it is......a handful in comparison to the .40 or .45. the list i showed you was for the .357 sig and was only a starter for you. tell you what why dont you give me a comparable list as a starter for the .45 acp. the civilian purchases the majority of handgun purchases in this country never embraced the .357 sig and thats why i priced 50 rounds of it tonight at $35. it never won favor of those who buy handguns so the selection is limited and the prices are high. gee i wonder if the fact the sig was designed for the leo community might have something to do with it. so you see nate the sig is very much alive. that statement is ridiculous. the .38 special is very much alive. the .357 magnum is very much alive. the 9mm is very much alive and the .45 acp is very much alive. the .357 sig is not very much alive in comparison. okay then give me something other than just your opinion to base that claim on. you now have outright killed the .45gap and the .357sig and have done it with not one single proof or cite................. no sense beating on a dead horse here. with all due respect nate you havent a clue what you are talking about. you sincerely may think you do but you are so far off base when it comes to guns. i have many guns myself nate though i certainly wont identify all of them here where people not needing to know snoop around. ive been shooting hunting and reloading those guns for many years and just your expressions terms used and the repeated biased phrases tell me you havent the real knowledge you think you do. if you cannot produce a cite of support for yourself then there is no need to go any longer here. have a good one............ jerry .

overloaded switches will add resistance to the circuit and reduce the current which in turn reduces the amount of lumens you are going to get. you just said in your last post that an amperage drop was impossible... now youre talking about a reduction in current. make up your mind... which is it if you bothered to actually read what he said instead of this hard-on you seem to have for finding fault in what i say you would see that what he actually said was 1 too much draw by other accessories will cause an amperage drop before a voltage drop occurs. now unless you can explain how the current can drop without a drop in voltage or increase in resistance it is impossible as i said. btw i am still waiting for your explanation of how a bad ground can cause an increase in current flow as you said to another poster. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

well max thats probably because you havent studied the matter in much depth. on the contrary i know enough to realize that 12v is 12v and the same lamp will put out the same lumens no matter what ya do. max then you would be as you are so many other times wrong!!! the lumens that the lamp puts out depends on the current flowing thru it and thin wires and overloaded switches will add resistance to the circuit and reduce the current which in turn reduces the amount of lumens you are going to get. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

dan i had a similar problem and solved it by cleaning my throttle body and the mass airflow sensor. i disconnected the negative battery cable before removing the sensor to clean it too. jason .

this is my first 4x4 in 20 years. had it in 4 hi today on dry pavement. with the wheel cut hard to the right the truck was hopping. i think this is probably normal. yep - so is your driveline exploding. youre going to break something running like that. never run a part-time 4wd system on dry pavement. like mike advised rtfm. .

theguy wrote as to the 40 s&w. that gun was the demise of s&w im referencing the caliber .40 s&w not any particular model shooting it. but i was talking to the glock rep. about it the other day. please keep in mind that the glock rep works for glock and is therefore paid to sell the glock. what he was telling you was probably true but hes not considered a valid point of reference. i think the point you are missing is that for all intents and purposes the gap and the acp are the same round. that is wrong. ballistically on paper they may be the same round but thats where it stops. in the real world there are many differences. again to shoot the gap you have to buy a glock at this time. the gap ammuntition is more expensive and not nearly as readily available as the acp. yes these things very well may change in the future but for now these are factors that while minor do play a part in making a handgun purchase. .

sigh have the governor pressure solenoid and governor pressure transducer replaced both are high-rate-of-failure items i have a 98 ram 1500 5.2 auto that has suddenly developed a shifting problem. very light throttle will shift 1-2 at 2800 rpm higher with more gas. it also downshifts early. it acts like it thinks the throttle is open 25-50% more than it is. the trans does not appear to be slipping but the shift up and down is screwy. once it shifts 1-2 at light throttle it will go on and shift up to 3 & 4 fairly normally. id appreciate any ideas. thanks! .

william boyd wrote roy wrote tom lawrence wrote cavity when i take the filter back out. what do you think about having to bleed the lines leading to the injectors. i always had to do that on an old ford 2600 tractor i had no the 03 and up engines use electrically-actuated injectors as opposed to hydraulically-actuated in the older models and your ford tractor. air in the lines isnt a problem - it will just blow out the injectors when they open up. this is what makes the new engines self-bleeding. changing the filter. i might be near my wits end but it wont do any good to give up. once you can get the lift pump putting fuel into the filter canister you should be home free. well its 25 deg. on the upward direction @ 0800 going for the upper 40s my normal body redline is 50 deg but this is an ewo emergency way operation condition so ill brave it as it passes lets say 35 deg. i have slept on it and decided to be a little more optimistic about it and not disconnect the feed line again. but go directly to the filter and remove it see if the lift pump will draw fuel with a little air pressure in the tank. with the experience that i have had in the past with liquid pumps they are not good at pumping air and will work much more efficient with liquid. so i think the name of the game is to get liquid to the pump in what ever manner i can. what do you think just my .02. running that lift pump dry is apt to trash it. any way you can get heat to the lines like a flood light bulb under the tank hair dryer to the lines the heated fuel i doubt will work it has to radiate too far but at this stage anything i suppose will help. roy thanks roy. i hope we can call it success with a great deal of lost confidence in the cumins engine setup in the ram. i was well aware of problems with running out of fuel that is the reason i kept my eye in the gage and computer. the system should have a sumped tank with drain capability as it is what goes in has gotta go through the filter. a horses ass arrangement if i ever seen one. i have had several diesel tractors still have a jd5410 and all had tank drain capability. hope this is the only thing i find that i do not like with the dodge. hell i was raised in west texas and back then if you didnt have a dodge pickup you wasnt a cowboy. my latest corrective actions included removing the filter and filling the cavity with fuel then bumping the lift pump two times. noting that the filter heater worked while the lift pump was running. thought i was going to have problems there as it put out a little smoke from around the top of the filter cavity. never the less after that i slowly lowered the filter in to the cavity that was full of fuel secured it and bumped two more times. the engine caught and ran for a short while then stalled out. i obtained a glass bottle and drained the filter noting a large amount of water. so i added 5 more gallons of the red fuel the remainder of the bottle of heat fuel dryer and repeated the previous procedure. this time the engine caught and kept on running so i pulled it up to the fuel tank and added to about a half of a tank of the red fuel. i drove down to the station that i usually buy fuel at and filled it up this was not the bp station that i obtained what i believe to be water contaminated fuel that started this mess. i also went to three shell stations including one that was a real truck stop and all of them were out of shells fuel additive that prevents gelling. i thought next best thing was to buy an alternative from a reputable parts store. i bought power service brand one quart treats 100 gallons of fuel named diesel fuel supplement + cetane boost. gotta be good its made in texas weatherford. any body ever heard of this brand i want to thank all that helped me out with this im to old to be doing this kinda shit any way. new tricks come harder as time goes by. damned and i usta be an airplane mechanic but couldnt have done it with out your help most specifically tom cheers have a happy new year -- bill p. 2004 2500 slt quad cab dodge ram swb 2wd 5.9 ho turbo diesel 48re auto trans anti-spin dif. rhino liner husky 16k. voyager controller 2005 27rl wildcat dt/pc wi-fi. just me and dog .
