Q: i live in british columbia.logging roads are where i drive. i have had flats with the bfgs so im looking for a tougher tire.the xpss are all steel. then there is toyo but i have heard of hwy problems with them.so basically im looking for someone who has had experience with the xps. my baby needs new boots.i was going to go with bfg ats but i have looked at the michelin xps traction.with hunting and fishing the truck sees a lot of big rock gravel.has anybody used these xpss or any other suggestions welcome. yes i have bf goodrich a/ts and love them lots. excellent tires. they are on a 99 4x4 yukon gas. my friend has a 1996 i think ram 3/4 ton with the cummins. he lives on the farm does lots of gravel driving and runs bf goodrich mud terrains. they are quite new. a month or so ago he put a stone clear through the middle of the lug and punctured the tire. that is a lot of solid rubber for a stone to go through... those cummins are heavy so i would choose carefully. .

how about the facts that he joined the guard to get out of going to nam and then didnt even complete his term there sounds like desertion to me. it must be nice when daddy has enough money to buy your way out of your duty and obligations. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving tbone wrote lol at least he was there which is more than you can say about or current deserter president. and your source that bush is a deserter is jerry .

i dont have a solution but ive got the same problem with my 2002 ram. it seems as if the fluid has to reach a certain temp before the control module will let overdrive function. so i let it warm up longer on the crazy cold days before i leave home but the temps in tennessee stay a little warmer than they do in canada so that wont help any. i hope you find your solution. well ive had this problem ever since i purchased the truck new in the winter of 1997. if it gets any colder than -25c i end up with no overdrive.this has been on trips lasting over 2 hours. today it is a rare -40c...crazy cold! i know im not the only one complaining about this problem.there is some improvement when the block heater is plugged in. the colder it gets the more likely there wont be any overdrive.there is no shortange of cold temps in canada unfortunately. has anyone come up with a solution .

you could just drop the engine and change them all on a service stand. i am thinking they put the platinum plugs in there designed to go 100k+ miles before they are changed so they just think of it an a non issue. i guess that you must remove the brake booster - -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving speaking of spark plugs i just came across a picture of the v10 under the hood. how on earth do you change the plugs! i do not see how you can get to most the spark plugs on the ram v10 actually it isnt all that bad. #7 and #9 are the difficult ones. i usually lie across the engine compartment in the middle and reach down with my right arm to get those two plugs. the rest of them are easy. no... what i really want to know is how do people with hemis change out their plugs the coil pack for the #5 set of plugs is right under the brake booster. looking at that made my v10 plug changes look simple. .

okay i have a new issue. im in fort worth texas and im buying a used truck in portland oregon. they dont have clear title i dont think the truck is paid off. ive never bought a used vehicle like this before. theyll give me a bill of sale whatever makes me happy the problem is i dont know what i need if i cant leave with a title so i could use a little guidance experience advice caveats. well with the exception of buy a truck closer to home ;- thanks! robert robert i wouldnt touch this truck under these circumstances with a ten foot pole. i have lived in oregon for over 50yrs and have bought and sold over 40 cars and trucks. if the owners cannot provide a clear title on the truck something is wrong. i would try and contact the odot & find out who really owns the truck. a bill of sale doesnt cut it. i would say no title no money. of course i am not an attorney and i am just stating my opinion. .

i have also experienced a similar situation. my 2000 durango 5.9 insists on locking out the o/d whenever ambient is below -20c. after driving about 3 to 4 miles down the highway at 80 kph following a brief warm-up time of about a minute i simply release the throttle blip the ignition key and o/d re-appears no it hasnt reached operating temp yet and ambient is about -30c. incidently i can already hear the hue and cry about an unsafe pratice potential loss of vehicle control etc. etc..... so in order to save time consider it already acknowledged. im not suggesting that anyone adopt the same method but merely stating what works for me just as a matter of interest. mark wrote well ive had this problem ever since i purchased the truck new in the winter of 1997. if it gets any colder than -25c i end up with no overdrive.this has been on trips lasting over 2 hours. today it is a rare -40c...crazy cold! i know im not the only one complaining about this problem.there is some improvement when the block heater is plugged in. the colder it gets the more likely there wont be any overdrive.there is no shortange of cold temps in canada unfortunately. has anyone come up with a solution date jul. 7 1995 models 1996 br ram truck 1996 ab ram van/wagon 1996 an dakota 1996 br ram truck 1996 zj grand cherokee note this bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with rwd transmissions 42re 44re 46re and 47re. discussion in ambient temperatures of minus 5 degrees f and below the powertrain control module pcm will electronically inhibit the transmission from shifting into overdrive. this will protect the transmission from damage if the automatic transmission fluid begins to freeze. this is a new feature for the 1996 model year. the pcm will allow overdrive operation once the ambient temperature has risen approximately 7 degrees above the temperature the transmission overdrive was inhibited at or an ambient temperature of + 2 degrees f whichever occurs first. note the pcm uses a different temperature sensor to monitor the overdrive disconnect than the overhead console. do not attempt to monitor the overdrive disconnect with the overhead console. jerry thanks jerry! that info also appears in everyones owners manual. as a further point it is the transmission temp that is monitored not the engine temp. chryco service manager member sae .

ive towed a fifth wheel since 94 and the steel cable that mac refers to is plugged into an electrical switch on the front under panel of the trailer overhang. this switch is tied into the 12v electrical system for the trailer which is energized by a standard deep cycle battery. the silver box referred to is merely a switch. when the cable is pulled it yanks a plastic insert out of the switch which closes and energizes the brakes. a way to test it is to hook up the trailer and while pulling forward slowly yank the steel wire with a long lanyard attached to the loop in the cable and pull the plastic insert out. the brakes should set and bring you to a stop. but the battery is an automotive battery. many people use two 6v golf cart batteries in the trailer as they say that the batteries last longer. i dont have enough room in the battery compartment to do that. pcolaphil to reply remove spamnot. you and i are friends....... you fight i fight........ you hurt i hurt........ you cry i cry......... you jump off a bridge.... im gonna miss your dumb ass!!!! | on 28 jan 2004 170527 gmt mopar440@aol.comnet.org redneck tookover | hell wrote | | the problem here is the folks with older trailers that dont have | them or with surge brakes that havent been maintained and dont work | any more.. | | question along that line. | does your trailer/camper have the 12 volt dry cell battery setup that locks up | the trailer brakes should the trailer become disconnected from the vehicle | while towing | thats required in ca also but you can buy a trailer without one. | | not sure if its a dry cell but it could be.... | little silver box with steel cable coming out of it the cable being | attached to one of the safety chain hooks.... | | | | mac .

supertuner microchips that increase hp and can help with towing. have you actually towed with your setup yes you can dramatically increase a diesel engines output by adding fuel & boost right to the point of the exhaust gas temps increasing to the point of melting pistons. this is why you need an exhaust gas temperature gauge and boost gauge yes you can keep increasing the power until the vehicle is unuseable for towing because the exhaust gas temperature will be too high politics the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich. no i havent towed with it yet but do plan to. i had also heard about getting extra gauges as you recommended but a friend suggested purchasing a tuner to adjust the computer controller for various towing/non-towing conditions. he said it boosted power and mileage but since i know little about it i thought id ask to find out if it is worthwhile. where do you ge the gauges and are they easy to install or should it be done professionally thanks .

roll n lock makes it hard to keep your bed rails on some dodge trucks. the bed tapers slightly and a shim partly blocks the rear attachment for the bed rail. some custom cutting could make it work but more trouble than its worth. claud willywanka wrote im looking for a bed cover that will fit inside the bed so i can keep my bed rails. 99 ram quad cab any ideas dave .

im trying to track down a whistling noise coming from under the hood between 1500-2000 rpm and only when the truck is under a load and only when the ambient temperature is below freezing. its been going on for about two years but i forgot about it over the summer. ive removed most of the vacuum lines one by one only exception is the pcv line and the brake booster line and plugged them and test drove the truck. by doing this i know its not the gasoline evaporator cannister and purge solenoid nor the vacuum lines running the heater controls etc. i may have a leak in the intake manifold etc. but i havent looked at that yet. listening to the engine in the garage i have a tick coming from what i think is my tensioner pulley so im also considering that it could be a bearing but it doesnt act like a bearing. my experience is that a bearing will continue to grind at all speeds and load. but i took the serpentine belt off and checked the idler pulley it turned freely and had no slop but the tensioner pulley had a bit of forward and back play though it does seem to turn freely. i didnt measure it but definitely had a bit of slop. does anyone know what is allowable for play on this pulley is thanks dave young 1999 ram 1500 5.2 liter 2 wheel drive manual transmission. .

fortune magazine had pictures of some new american vehicles getting ready to go into production. a couple of them from dodge and chrysler. apparently the intrepid is going away to be replaced by the dodge magnum though i cant see how this could be so; how do you replace a sedan with a wagon or does the magnum come in both wagon and sedan models. looks like a station wagon with very low cabin height compared to the vehicle sides. not too bad looking and obtainable with a v-8 although i presume the basic vehicle would come with a 6. seems a slightly smaller looking pacific. nice wheels from the photo and something if it came in ad i might consider as a replacement to my 1500 which is overkill for me now that i dont tow a boat any more. ive been wishing the american manufacturers would make something along the lines of the volvo cross country wagon. perhaps the magnum is it or maybe a four door dakota with a cap on the short bed. and what the heck is that chrysler 300c i cant see that thing going very far! got a grill on it that would be intimidating even to a current style ram! smh yeah the intrepid/concorde platform is going away which is a mistake imho also. while the magnum and 300c are neat cars they do not fit the niche of family car and that leaves d/c lacking in that department. also both are rwd and the american people are now conditioned to front-wheel drive and its superior handling in snow and ice and will find that the new ones are lacking in that regard also. i hope it works well though i have my doubts. mike i was in a class in auburn hills a couple of weeks ago and got to talk about this fwd vs rwd on this chassis. the instructors seem to think that with the traction control and abs plus there shouldnt be much of a problem. as you go into a curve the abs will selectively apply individual brakes as needed to control over/understeer. time will tell if it works according to plan. denny .

redneck tookover hell wrote naw you dont have to that. its the steering coupler at the gear box. they go bad all the time. go to your local dodge dealer and tell them you need a reapair kit for the steering coupler. dodge trucks dont use a steering coupler they use a rag joint there is no repair kit for the rag joint you just replace it looks like hes going to be out 7-8 bucks now. smh .

bullshit. when a fwd slips a light touch of the gass usually gets it right back. when a rwd loses traction in the front your sol and better pray that nothing else is around. damn its groundhog day the pats win another superbowl and now i am agreeing with you i knew that someday you would see the light bg - if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .
