speaking from experience - because my interior lights quit working as well. there was an update to the computer that can only be installed with the computer at a dealer or mechanic. it has to do with a needed programming update. they downloaded the update installed it on my computer - lights back on. .

i have a 1999 dodge ram extended cab automatic 4x4 318 that is very close to being traded in for another brand of truck.. this past year this truck has more than nickle and dimed me. but i wont go into that. i just replaced the water pump. im not a mechanic so its hard for me to diagnose things but i usually fix them once i know what is wrong. but now there are two noises. these noises were there before i replaced the water pump. one seems to be coming from the transmisssion. its a very fast knocking tapping and i can only hear it when the truck is in park. when i put the truck in reverse or drive the noise pretty much goes away. my tranny fluid level is fine. the other noise is sort of a high-pitched squealing whistling noise. if i had to guess id say it was coming from the a/c compressor. or maybe its just the belt squealing on everything. its a fairly new belt. any ideas suggestions thanks .

on sat 23 sep 2006 161130 gmt ignoramus937 ignoramus937@nospam.937.invalid wrote i decided to take pictures as i go along. see http//igor.chudov.com/projects/automotive/drivetrain-noise-in-dodge-ram-1500-pickup/ some findings as i opened up the differential. 1. it is full of gear oil. means my oil change 2 years ago was successful 2. on the bottom there is some amount of of like 100 grit metal dust settled down. 3. there was one foreign object on the bottom see http//tinyurl.com/zr8zg 4. the gears and such do not seem to have any unusual damage. i really hard to say just looking at the pictures but it looks like the drivers side adjuster keeper is broken off. the gears dont look bad but the backlash should be checked and some prussen sp blue used to verify the contact area. youre going to need a special tool for setting the torque on the adjusters. you have to do it with the axles removed. the tool is simple enough to make. a nut welded on one end of 2 of 1/2 all thread and a hexhead pipe bushing welded on the other end. the right size hexhead has to be selected to fit into the adjuster. you might as well replace the wheel bearings and seals while you have it apart. dont forget to check the backlash every time you change the adjusters and after you torque every thing down. make up a jig to hold the dial indicator that bolts to the case using one of the cover bolt holes. beekeep .

day to day things about once every other day. now the problem with the new truck is that i have a one car garage and wont even attempt to pull the truck into it. i may be able to get it in but would certainly play heck getting it back out. - oh come on! be adventurous. - i have a two car two door garage. when i first purchased my house i was concerned that my truck wouldnt fit into the garage from height depth and width perspective. the result is that it does fit but i have to 1 width fold the side mirrors in. i have about 6 inches total width 3 inches on each side if i stab it directly center of wiggle room when pulling in. 2 height my satellite radio antenae pod sits on top of the cab. i am just able to squeeze under the top of the door opening with 3/4 to spare. 3 length i have exactly 2 inches total of extra room. so if i leave my hitch on i cant close the garage door. lol this sounds like my garage i only pull it into the garage when 1 the weather is getting bad or 2 when i know i wont be driving it for a few days. not me i park in there when the weilder isnt in the way currently working on a project your truck may fit. problem is if you truly have a one car garage the only way out is the sliding rear window. - uh theres the side windows although its a bit of a drop for my short ass craig c. -- if pro and con are opposite what is the opposite of progress -- ---------------------------- -chris 05 ctd 06 liberty crd real trucks dont need spark plugs. .
