Q: carolina watercraft works inc. loballeng@mindspring.com wrote in 2001 ram 2500 with manual transmission... what is the average mileage i should get before i should expect to have to do any work to the transmission. synchros etc. depends on how you service it use it and abuse or not abuse it. seriously. thats like saying how long can i expect to live its going to depend on alot more factors than a simple question. some guys have problems from the get go rare but it happens...some never have an issue. every driver is different and every truck while made the same will not last the same. -- laszlo almasi carolina watercraft works inc. 2810-5d yonkers road raleigh nc 27604 loballeng@mindspring.com .

im leaving next week to move to ft. pierce. it is just a little too crowded here in the ft. lauderdale area. i will miss some things about it but am looking forward to the move. don d. we lived in that area from 9/2000 til last february then had to move back to jacksonville to help take care of some older and younger family members. sure do miss it!!!!!!!!!! doug thats where it was! i kept it slow to try and get a more accurate reading. it was in the morning before it opened so i was by myself. don d. that sounds like 32 mph around sawgrass mills. ive seen days that people would have been passing you! doug i have been reading the discussions about gas mileage with and without cruise control and i always thought that you got better mileage with cruise control. i conducted a short unscientific test and came up with the following ram 1500 with 4.7 engine and auto transmission. there is a 2.1 mile flat circle around a mall here in sunrise fl. i drove around the circle at 32 mph with cruise control on and got 22.3 mpg on the indicator. without cruise control and trying very hard to keep the same speed i got 23.1 mpg. both trips there was no traffic and i was able to hold the speed more exact without cruise control. with c/c on i could feel the little surges and coasts and this is probably responsible for the increased mileage. i know that this might not translate into the same results at 70 mph on a highway but i think that it might. cruise control is handy and i will continue to use it on the highway but i think that i could get a little better mileage without it. the trade-off would be that i would have to really pay attention to my foot on the gas pedal and concentrate. don d. .

i just but this truck privately and the ac will not blow cold air. when the system is running if you feel the evaporator and condenser lines in the engine compartment one is real hot the other is real cold just like they should be. thats not an indication that the system is charged enough to remove any heat from the vehicles passenger compartment....just so you know. however its possible all is ok there and you have a blend door issue asn mentioned later in teh thread. i would be looking for a broken vac line or a bad control switch. it sounds like the door is closing properly when you slide the temp lever to the coldest setting you can hear the thump as it seats against a mating surface. the control is a cable not a vacuum system like i thought it might be. what is everyones opinion on the charging kits that are sold in the stores that have a pressure gauge with them to recharge the system. do the work or not. and yes i do have mechanical knowledge so it is not like i am lost with everything. lol ron .

theres a little one-way valve on the back of the evaporator thats clogged. the cold stuff aint gettin into the evaporator so you aint getting any cold air. i just but this truck privately and the ac will not blow cold air. when the system is running if you feel the evaporator and condenser lines in the engine compartment one is real hot the other is real cold just like they should be. thats not an indication that the system is charged enough to remove any heat from the vehicles passenger compartment....just so you know. however its possible all is ok there and you have a blend door issue asn mentioned later in teh thread. i would be looking for a broken vac line or a bad control switch. it sounds like the door is closing properly when you slide the temp lever to the coldest setting you can hear the thump as it seats against a mating surface. the control is a cable not a vacuum system like i thought it might be. what is everyones opinion on the charging kits that are sold in the stores that have a pressure gauge with them to recharge the system. do the work or not. and yes i do have mechanical knowledge so it is not like i am lost with everything. lol ron .
