Dakota oil presure!
From : clt
Q: clt wrote when i first strat the engine in the morning the oil presure remains constant in the presure indicator but when the engine reaches the normal temperature the presure starts to fluctuate. when i put some gas the presure gets higher and when i stop the presure goes down. is that correct is there a oil pump to maintain the presure up when the engine is cold mine is a 99 3.9l! clt. the oil is thicker when cold hence the higher pressure. i had the same problem in my 87 3.9 and 91 5.2. had virtually the same in my 1st gen camaro when the rear main seal let go i had them change the oil pump too. now the guage is nice & healthy definately worth the $ for the peace of mind. .

dave in lake villa wrote good info. thanks. dave; why are you posting as fast1970vette *and* daviinlakevilla have you got some hidden agenda of perhaps answering yourself and agreeing totally just in case everyone else thinks youre talking out of the wrong hole as they say; theres nothing new under the sun! -- my part-time website is at http//5110.sytes.net the full-time one is at http//www.geocities.com/spmf38 but theres no techsection there. .

hey everyone i replaced the lower seals around the sector shaft and its been leak free since saturday may 14th. thanks for all the help. john oh and tbone you were correct in that the little spring that holds the seal tight around the shaft was broken. the stop leak wouldnt even slow the leak down. the little spring is inside the slit on the side of the seal. stop leak just swells the seal but if it is ripped or damaged stop leak has little effect and may actually make the leak worse. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving thanks tom. youve been a lot of help. this thing is leaking progressive worse. im replacing the lost fluid with steering fluid stop leak and its running right on through just like the steering fluid does. do you know what the diameter of the drift punch would be off hand. i will get one made out of brass or aluminum if you have an idea what diameter id need. a standard drift that tapers down to 1/4 or so is what im talking about - you just work it around the bearing tapping it out. alternatively you can use the socket/extension deal to remove it as well. .

does it sound like the fans gone hyperactive my 4.7 does the same thing in a narrow range of morning temperatures cool mornings but not cold. goes away once i get up to 3rd gear and stays gone till the next cool morning. jmc ============ that is a better discriprion then i could have come up with...but yes it somewhat fits the noise i hear... and yes it is gone until i get into 3rd gear also... which with my little 3.9 does not require much time... bob g .

craig@metronet.com wrote if that is the case then isnt drilling for more oil in alaska a stop-gap it definately does not lead to newer better energy sources. yes it is a stop-gap measure but not for cars. oil is used for far more than just gasoline. alaskan oil is not sweet crude. .
