Cummins oil pressure drop at startup
From : tom
Q: ive got a 2003 dodge 3500 with the cummins high output and 6 speed transmission. after starting the engine in the morning if i let it idle for about 40 seconds the oil pressure drops to zero. when the oil pressure drops to zero and i turn off the engine and restart it the oil pressure stays at normal. the oil pressure drop phenomena only occurs at first startup. the truck has a little over 13000 miles on but ive had this problem since it was a month old. recently my local dealer changed the send unit for the oil pressure gauge. this didnt fix the problem. any ideas .

here comes the flames. what oil filter are you using is it one with an anti-drainback valve sounds like it has an air bubble in the line. if you think its the gauge try buying a mechanical gauge hooking it up with a t at the location of your electric sender. you dont have to mount it permanently just run the line out the side of the engine compartment and have your significant other hold it incase your connections leak it wont get you oily they only fall for it a couple of timesunless theyre blond so use them sparingly! where you can see both gauges. if both gauges do it you can rule out the gauge. im sure this will start the my filter is better than your filter debate again. gary carter | ive got a 2003 dodge 3500 with the cummins high output and 6 speed | transmission. after starting the engine in the morning if i let it idle | for about 40 seconds the oil pressure drops to zero. when the oil pressure | drops to zero and i turn off the engine and restart it the oil pressure | stays at normal. the oil pressure drop phenomena only occurs at first | startup. the truck has a little over 13000 miles on but ive had this | problem since it was a month old. recently my local dealer changed the | send unit for the oil pressure gauge. this didnt fix the problem. | any ideas | | .

if i had a 2003 truck under warranty i know who would be fixing it. hint it wouldnt be me hooking up manual gauges or troubleshooting problems most dealers have at least one tech who has been to cummins school or his phone is broke and he cant call cummins the truck has a little over 13000 miles on but ive had this | problem since it was a month old. recently my local dealer changed the | send unit for the oil pressure gauge. this didnt fix the problem. | any ideas chaos confusion and trouble!!!! my work here is almost done .

being under warranty you should be complaining to the dealer. since the sending unit has been replaced unless they have a batch of defects its probably in the pcm as it controls the gauges. chris ive got a 2003 dodge 3500 with the cummins high output and 6 speed transmission. after starting the engine in the morning if i let it idle for about 40 seconds the oil pressure drops to zero. when the oil pressure drops to zero and i turn off the engine and restart it the oil pressure stays at normal. the oil pressure drop phenomena only occurs at first startup. the truck has a little over 13000 miles on but ive had this problem since it was a month old. recently my local dealer changed the send unit for the oil pressure gauge. this didnt fix the problem. any ideas .
