i have a 2007 dodge dakota 3.7l 6 cylinder automatic i bought it brand new in july 2007. on two occassions september 14 and october 12 2007 my instrument panel indicated that my transmission was in drive however my vehicle could only reach 45 mph on the freeway with the tachometer winding out at 4000 which led me to believe that the vehicle was in 2nd gear. i would pull off the freeway and shift to neutral reverse park then back to reverse neutral and drive however the vehicle would still only go 45 mph with the tachometer winding out at 4000. i took the vehicle to the dealership the next morning on both occassions where my vehicle is covered under warranty and both times the dealership said that they test drove my vehicle and could not duplicate the problem. does anyone have any ideas what might be going on any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. sammy hagar had the same problem when he could only drive 55. he couldnt get his car out of second gear. .

yup i did go with the dealership mechanic on the road test both times and the vehicle drove fine. the first time after the mechanic and i went on the road test he said nothing was wrong so nothing was done. the second time after the road test nothing was wrong again but i pleaded with the mechanic to run a diagnostic which he did and he said he could not find any error codes. it is so frustrating. a new vehicle should be problem free but this vehicle is stressing me out not knowing when it will happen again. thanks for your replies. -- message posted via carkb.com http//www.carkb.com/uwe/forums.aspx/dodge-truck/200710/1 i have been in the service business myself and i am sure the tech if he is worth his salt is frustrated too. i wasnt in auto service but i have also been in the situation where i was sure the customer was having a problem but it just wouldnt repeat itself to me. i have also been on the other side like yourself. on one occaision i left my vehicle with the service manager and he drove it to work every day for a week before the problem raised its head. this was with my then new town car that would lose power for about 30 seconds and then go back to normal. it acted like it was running on about 5 cylinders for that time. it didnt leave a code either. it turned out to be the computer unit itself and it was replaced and is still fine after 5yrs and 100000 miles. weird things happen especially with all the electronics on our vehicles today. ed .

what is wrong with the original shocks. they work perfectly and last as least as long as the aftermarket. just because these things are painted bright colors do not make them better. steve anyone have any experience with these shocks supposedly the best of both worlds comfortable ride and good performance. will be going on a 2004 ram qc 4x4 crd. craig c. .

i had a similar problem with chev it was not the vehicle but it was the finance side of them got so ticked off i stormed out went across a street and bought a new 2006 dodge ram laramie 2500 diesel only thing i dont like about the dodge i bought is the seat the comfort of the chevy seat is awesome but i was hooked on the cummins and the dodge truck once i drove it the vehicle is awesome and now after a year and half with my ram only issues i have had with it was a shake in the front end and it ended up being the drive shaft they replaced it at no cost.. looking at buying a new ram not am not sure on the new engine yet.. but still love my truck.. been a dodge boy my whole life. the hemi is nice the truck rides smooth. but interiors in the 2006 dodge ram are shit. you have to upgrade to the expensive truck to get a decent seat leather the mds works like shit and the gas mileage gain doesnt exist. i know because i had the non mds hemi then the 2006 junk. the mileage on the mds version was actually worse. went to dodge with it and they basically said sorry. if your interested the new dodge has a great fabric protection guarantee. oh yeah my other complaint when rain hit the seat it stained the fabric what a bunch of shit not to mention the seat cushion had to be replaced after 18 months and 13000 miles. barely used the truck and kept it nice but seat still fell apart. it killed me so i tried to trade up to the laramie but dodge didnt want give me shit for the shit they sold me. so guess what. chevy did gave me more for the dodge than dodge did and i got a lot more options in the chevy . sorry to say i still love the look of the dodge but they have to stop screwing their customers with inferior interiors. tom .
