Cover the Radiator for the winter?

Q: have the 5.7 hemi and 50 daily round trip communte about 50% highway 65mph and 50% 35-40mph and get 18mpg on a trip highway only getting 22mpg and have only 8000 miles on it so far... seems like on the highway it cruises low rpms and nice to have more more power than enough out of the hole and passing.. pretty happy dodge had done it right by me so far.. scottremovetoreply scottremovetoreply@datajugglers.com wrote the 6 cyl is only available in the 2 wheel drive models. you probably wont find one on the lot unless you are in a sunbelt state. i have an 04 with the 4.7. it accelerates fine when getting the highway with 4 people in it. the milage on the highway runs about 22 mpg and we tend to drive 75-80 mph. it is definitely a pig around town with my wifes lead foot. i figure we are getting about 16 mpg around town. nlhomer wrote hello! maybe someone in this group can answer this question..the wife and i were looking at a durango the other day and she told me that durangos only came with v-8s.this was told to her by another person who had bought one.any truth to that statementany reply is welcome b.h. .

as a prowed owner of an 03 ctd ram i have had no problems with the truck but i do have a question. this past summer my truck recieved a tank full of red off road diesel at a job site. i have been told that this is bad because it does something to the injectors. was wondering if there is any truth to this. thanks. .

on the chevy group i follow there is a guy asking about covering the radiator on his diesel for the colder winter season. i am assuming he lives in a colder part of the world. anyways. i would assume this applies to the cummins as well. i dont think many people in the chevy group live any place where it gets that cold so i figured i would ask the question here. here is the original post i am considering putting a grill cover on my truck to restrict the air flow into the duramaxs radiator during the winter months. i would like to know if you consider this a good idea or a bad idea this is something i ve thought about several times my ram 2500 v-10 cooling system is waaaay too good at its job all year round it can be 100 out and stop and go traffic and the temp gauge barely moves no problem well in the winter warm up takes longer than any vehicle i ve ever owned everything is normal but the only reason i would want to cover the grill is to speed initial warm up while driving to work which i doubt covering the grill would have much if any real effect what could it gain me warmth 2 minutes sooner so since even in below zero the truck heats fine i see no reason to cover the grill in your case if you dont have any problems what do you expect to gain by adding a cover and if you are having problems than i think its gonna go deeper than a grill cover will fix tox while your observation of the cooling system on your v-10 is valid it does not apply to a diesel. diesel engines are much more efficient in extracting energy from fuel and putting that energy to work rather than creating waste heat. thus a diesel in cold weather takes a loooong time to reach operating temperature. for example my cummins operates at a normal temp of about 200 degrees. on a cold winter day 15 degrees it can take as much as 25 miles of driving before the engine reaches this temp. with a winter front it warms up much quicker. mike shepherds we shall be for thee my lord for thee power hath decended forth from thy hand so our feet may swiftly carry out thy command we shall flow a river forth to thee and teeming with souls shall it ever be in nomine patris et filii et spiritus sancti .

i fairly recently installed a one inch throttle body spacer on my 94 ram 1500 5.2l and just today got my cold air intake in the mail only to discover that the two cannot be used together in this application because the intake will not fit under the cowel with the throttle body spacer installed. my first thought is to remove the spacer and keep the intake but i want to make sure that i keep the mod that adds the most power. i am guessing the intake will probably give me the larger power gain but does anyone out there know for sure thanks in advance! .

i assume you are referring to the 92 and up magnum style multi port fuel injection in which case yes you will most likely have to switch to the magnum style cylinder heads due to differences in the intake and exhaust ports. it is possible that you could make the intake fit on the old heads but i would not recommend it especially considering that the intakes offered by mopar performance for la series small blocks are specific to either magnum or pre-magnum engines. they would probably know best about compatability between their offerings. however i have been browsing e-bay motors for magnum heads myself lately and i ran across a place called clearwater cylinder heads in florida that sells remanufactured magnum heads fully assembled with valves and springs for $175.00 a piece plus shipping and the magnum heads will more or less bolt right on to any la series small block 273318 340 360. the magnum heads also provide a much better flowing port and larger valves than previous la heads which will equate to more torque and horsepower. anyway hope this helps! .

it became low tech old fashioned or superceded . . .pick a terminology but it never became ineffective. budd ninebal310 wrote from trey i am considering putting a grill cover on my truck to restrict the air flow into the duramaxs radiator during the winter months. i would like to know if you consider this a good idea or a bad idea like gas engines diesels have a thermostat. the thermostat will only let a very small amount of water to pass thru when cold. as the block begins to heat up the thermostat will open letting more water pass thru. if the thermostat is working properly the engine will stay a constant temperature unless it is extremely cold. i am talking below -1 degrees. by blocking the airflow you run the risk of the engine overheating. in extreme temperatures blocking the airflow may help with providing you more comfort in the cab. sometimes in extremely low temps blowing air over the heater core is enough to keep the engine at operating temp. so only you can decide if you want to risk you engine over heating versus your comfort. ask yourself this question will i remember to remove the cover when it warms up if the answer is yes then go ahead and cover it up. hank i believe the old wwi/wwii german cars actually had a louvered grill with a lever in the cab so you could block the radiator until the engine was nice and warm then you could open it up to keep the temp stable. what ever happened to really cool stuff like that .

that bobtail was running the ih version of the powerstroke but one that had been overbored to the max due to an engine oiling failure. i have to admit that empty it could get up and go 5 speed with two-speed axle but put a couple ton onboard and it began straining at lower rpms. anyway the boss got the winterfront mounted and the diesel supplier finally got winter grade diesel in. budd btw i use to drive a early 60s pete long nose with a dump bed cummins 250 iirc and 5 x 3 tranny hauling dolomite off the mountain for the pueblo co steel mills. on tue 07 dec 2004 132420 gmt budd cochran mr-d150@citlinkspam.net wrote a winterfront does not block all airflow . . it covers the grill only in most cases the funny grill cover you see on big rigs in the winter and ive seen 18 wheelers rolling along at 60 with the cover fully zipped and the closest town 30 miles back . . .plenty of time for overheating if it was gonna happen. i had to make an employer get a winterfront for the ih bobtail van he had when the engine didnt warm up right and shut down in 15 degree weather. i had to call a tow truck to get back to the shop and when he complained about that bill it was the old fram commercial time . . pay now or pay later. you are right budd. i used to run cummins kta-600 in a long nosed kw. i had a fully zipped up winter front and a horton air-operated fan clutch that was either on or off unlike the viscous clutch that runs at 25% or whatever. running up north or out west i zipped the winter front up and never had the fan clutch kick in despite pulling max weight loads in the cold weather below freezing. most diesel rigs large and small have over-speced cooling capabilities imo. remember even the ram is designed to tote a 16000 lb trailer around nowadays running it empty is no sweat at all. greg greg .

make money!!! make thousands!!! well guess what!!! within seven days i started getting money in the mail!! i was shocked!! i figured it would end soon but the money just kept coming in. in my first week i made about $25.00. by the end of the second week i had made a total of more than $1000.00!! in the third week i had more than $10000.00 and its still growing!! this is now my fourth week and i have made a total of $42000.00 and its still coming rapidly. its certainly worth $6.00 and six stamps and i have spent more than that on the lottery without ever winning!!! my fingers are sore from opening all the envelopes & i are on first name basis with our local post office. i bet they are now doin it too!! let me tell you how this works and most important why it works.......... also make sure you print this out now so you can get the information off of it as you will need it. i promise you that if you follow the directions exactly that you will start making more money than you thought possible by doing something so easy!! suggestion read this entire message carefully!! print it out or download it follow the simple directions and watch the money come in!! its easy. its legal. and your investment is only $6.00 plus postage !!! you can use any currancy as people can always change it.. important this is not a rip-off it is decent; its legal; and it is virtually no risk - it really works!! if all the following instructions are adhered to you will receive extraordinary dividends. please note please follow the directions exactly and $50000 or more can be yours in 20 to 60 days. this program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants. please continue its success by carefully adhering to the instructions. you will now become apart of the mail order business. you are in the business of developing mailing lists. many large corporations are happy to pay big bucks for quality lists. however the money made from the mailing lists is secondary to income which is made from people like you and me asking to be included in that list. here are the four easy steps to success. step one get six separate pieces of paper and write the following on each piece of paper please put me on your mailing list. now get 6 u.s. $1.00 bills and place one inside of each of the six pieces of paper so the bill will not be seen through the envelope to prevent thievery. next place one paper in each of the six envelopes and seal them. you now should have six sealed envelopes each with a piece of paper stating the above phrase your name and address and a $1.00 bill. what you are doing is creating a service. this is absolutely legal!!!!! you are requesting a legitimate service and you are paying for it!! like most of us i was a little skeptical and little worried about the legal aspects of it all. so i checked it out with the u.s. post office 1-800-238-5355 and they confirmed that it is indeed legal!! mail the six envelopes to the following addresses t. wallace 8915 e. carlton ave. mesa az 85208-2399 usa matthew dutton 46 hayworth st point vernon hervey bay qld 4390 australia r. visser p.o. box 274 nobby beach qld 4218 australia s. phillips 77 manly drive robina qld 4226 australia chris pittman 7651 abigail glen dr. charlotte nc 28212 usa w coe 10510 bethel church manchester mi 48158 usa step twonow take the #1 name off the list that you see above move the other names up six becomes 5 5 becomes 4 and etc. and add your name as number 6 on the list. step three change anything you need to but try to keep this article as close to original as possible. now post your amended article to at least 200 groups. i think there are close to 24000 groups all you need is 200 but remember the more you post the more money you make!! this is perfectly legal!! if you have any doubts refer to title 18 sec. 1302 & 1341 of the postal lottery laws. keep a copy of these steps for yourself and whenever you need money you can use it again and again. please remember that this program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants and by their carefully adhering to directions. look at it this way. if you were of integrity the program will continue and the money that so many others have received will come your way. note you may want to retain every name and address sent to you either on a computer or hard copy and keep the notes people send you. this verifies that you are truly providing a service. also it might be a good idea to wrap the $1 bill in dark paper to reduce the risk of mail theft. so as each post is downloaded and the directions carefully followed all members will be reimbursed for their participation as a list developer with one dollar each. your name will move up the list geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1 position
