im somewhat confused about towing capacity and the license tags on light trucks. if you are towing your own rig and not for hire can you use the standard 12000 gvw plates but tow more weight it seems like some of the rv type trailers would be too large for the standard license plates. thanks bill not legally. if your stopped the fine will be for driving out of registration class and you will probably have to get a new registration with the higher amount or pay to have the trailer towed away. another thing to keep in mind is the gvw of the tow vehicle. if your trailer is above that as well as the registration you will get at least two tickets. talk to some of the folks who have been towing into florida. they have been finally taking the laws seriously in regard to registration and towing capacity. they have also been impounding vehicles if your vehicle is rated for more than your drivers license class is legal for. they give the vehicle back when you or someone you designate shows up with the proper class license to drive it. many states look the other way except in the case of an accident. personally i dont like the way that folks can just walk in and buy one of the huge motor coaches and drive away with it when the largest vehicle they have driven was a geo metro. or the ones who just picked up something like a 3500 dually and the new 40 foot trailer without ever towing anything before. ----== posted via feeds.com - unlimited-unrestricted-secure usenet ==---- http//www.feeds.com the #1 group service in the world! 120000+ groups ----= east and west-coast server farms - total privacy via encryption =---- .

snowing like hell about a inch a hour. supposed to stop late this afternoon. you must have gotten this yesterday or was it south of you roy fur face sheeesch. i shaved last week.. it started snowing a little after noon and i started in last night at 11pm and just got finished. got about 5-6 inches with a bit of wind to make it interesting. was a nice snow to push if it hadnt been in foot and a half ridges along the down-wind side of every building. we had a weird storm. snow about an inch a hour went to sleet back to snow then thunder lightning and snow in excess of 3 a hour for a total of about 12-14. heavy wet stuff that froze up during the night. put in about 16 hours then out for 6 more this morning. have i mentioned how much i like those revos yup ya did!! i gotta get something going with tire and weight. im useing the bfg rugged trail tas that came with the truck. they seem to bite pretty well self clean good too. im going to form and pour some concrete that will fit behind the wheel wells and extend back to the tailgate probably 12 high. hopefully that weight will take care of the few traction problems ive run into. i do miss the blizzaks though they were the best imho. but if the weight works ill stay with what i have. are the revos a dedicated tire or can ya run them in the summer have fun!! i did nothing but cash this morning. tired sleepy and grouchy fur face but ill bet well fed! g roy .

got a 1997 2500. the rear of the valve cover on the cummins engine is tucked under a lip in the firewall. how easy is it to remove the valve cover to adjust the valves not hard at all. actually theres 6 valve covers. the plate cover comes off with two bolts then each valve cover comes off with a single bolt. theres not a whole lot of room for the #6 cover but theres enough to tip it to the side passenger and and remove it. also ive been told the rear axle is 4.11. how easy is it to change the gearing to around 3.5 or so that dana 70 axle is a little more difficult to work with because of the use of shims. if you havent done a differential swap before id leave it to a shop. if you want to tackle it yourself read through a post from steve belt here - about 2/3s down the page the message with the subject 4.56 gear installation info http//dodgeram.org/tech/repair/axle/diffsetup.htm how would i correct the speedometer by changing the pinion gear of the sending unit on the tailpiece of the transmission im assuming you have a 2wd because you were only asking about a rear diff. swap. on a 4x4 the sending unit is on the transfer case. since a 3.55 gear was also standard equipment on your truck your dodge parts counter should be able to look up the correct pinion gear for you. .

i know that a lot of people here use lp to heat homes especially rual people in the country its cheeper than electric but the thing is you have to buy in in 200 gallon at a time to get it at a descent rate i think its going for like 1.49 in my area right now. last year it was 1.10/gal. you do have a good point though propane is still much more efficient than gasoline even here in the us maybe that would be a good thing to do. propane can be more efficient only in high-compression engines octane rating is about 106 iirc even more in us octane numbers. regular gasoline engines consume 10-15% more lpg by volume. actually i remember reading somewhere you can get tax credit in us for driving alt fuel vehicle. there must be some strings attached but maybe worth a try... peter .

can anybody tell me exactly how chrysler pcms determine fuel mixture lean condition im running dodge durango 99 on propane and pcm consistently throws p0171 condition. propane computer autronic feeds emulated o2 sensor signal into vehicle pcm and allows me to set emulation parameters time low 0v and time high 1v. ive tried reducing time low to simulate richer mixture but to no effect. its not nice to cross post hey its not like im trolling and crossposting to dozens of unrelated groups! the computer/o2 sensor relationship is more of an on-off thing. 0 volts from the o2 sensor is lean 1 volt would be rich. if the computer sees 0 volts it will richen up the mixture if the o2 sensor still says 0 when the computer is at full rich it sets the check engine lamp and says its too lean. when working properly the voltage at the o2 sensor will swing from rich to lean and back to rich. i know all that. still does not help with the original issue... i wonder if chrysler pcms can throw p0171 based on readings from downstream o2 sensor peter .

wdavis8580@hotmail.com wrote my o/d lamp lights and the transmission comes out of overdrive while driving at highway speeds typically 60-70 mph. this behavior just began today i am not towing and the ambient temperature is around 50 degrees. one time the transmission hot indicator came on but went out after i stopped turned off the engine and restarted. if i stop and turn off the engine then restart the o/d indicator goes out and the transmission works fine for probably 15-20 miles then the routine starts over. the transmission has plenty of fluid still red but i do smell that telltale hot something smell when i walk past the radiator. i have never changed the transmission fluid/filter. should i have the dealer change it and adjust the bands as the owner manual says any other ideas first have the fluid completely changed not just whats in the pan. make sure the pan is dropped and filter changed. since you have a 2001 im assuming the fluid is way past its intended life and the filter is possibly clogged. that would cause things to heat up. hopefully no damage has occurred. i change my fluid once a year or every 20k. i do tow sometimes though. .

a better rule is to change your fluid every couple of years and to paint everything not painted by the factory before you drive it. steve in the last few months i have had to replace four sections of brake line..... 130000 miles on a 97 ram 1500...... a word to the wise.....inspect your brake lines! .

yeah dei does make a lot of the alarm/remote start set ups out there. we use trc and warlock. both of there high end set ups include the basic alarm door lock ignition kill and remote start plus an fm based pager with about a 1/2 mile range. as an installer i would never recommend that you do this yourself. you are looking at about a 3 hour job and they are not easy. you will have to cut the starter wire for it to split the relay as an example of part of the installation the first thing i have to ask is what type of tranny do you have in most places there are legal aspects you must consider before you install a remote start on a manual tranny. it is against the law in some states to do this. as for brands i would not recommend anything from dei. we have used them in the past and had less then a 50/50 satisfaction rate. @localhost.talkaboutautos.com partsandmore@alltel.net says... anyone have a great experience with a remote start kit and self installation please advise brand #s and details 05 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with factory keyless entry gas 5.7 hemi i wouldnt do it myself. let someone who has done tons of them do it. my 03 ram has a viper starter in it the third vehicle done at the same local place by the same guy. he never even opened the installation stuff he just did it. this time of year they really do a ton of them. if you havent dealt with the place before check them out at the bbb website. if they have been around for a while they will probably be ok anyway as word gets out quick. bdk doesnt dei make most of them i know clifford viper and a couple more are made by dei. never really had much of a problem with any of the three except this one needed the brains replaced when the blower quit when in remote start. took a half hour and was free under warranty. bdk .

thicker oil protects the engine better but the default suggestion is almost always 5w30 or even 0w30 zerow30. this is because thinner oil offers slightly better fuel economy. or because the engine has some particularly small passages and clearances. in that case a thicker oil is probably not a good idea. so it makes sense for a car manufacturer to suggest lighter oil be used. cafe also forces the issue. .

yeah right on the 2.5 x power. yeah.... right. i figure about 250hp at the crank for a typical 1/2-ton v8. im easily at 625hp at the flywheel so by my math thats two and a half times more. if the gas truck is geared properly it will pull just about as much as a oil burner will. so will a golf cart.... but its gonna be reeeaaaalllllyyyyyy ssssslllllooooowwwww it is all in the gearing. nope... its all in the horsepower. you want to move a load of x lbs. at y speed you need z hp. period. i have hualed a 13k loaded equipment trailer a few time with my k3500 good for you.... what was your mileage while doing that with not problems or big fuss. heck 30 years ago i was hualing 23k grain trailers 20 miles to a mill at harvest time before there was even the dream of a ctd 30 years ago i was crapping in a diaper... things change. problems. you just need the gears and the proper drive line not a oil burner to move a lot of weight. go find me an over-the-road commercial truck that pulls 60-80k and runs on gasoline. ill wait here... .

yeah right on the 2.5 x power. if the gas truck is geared properly it will pull just about as much as a oil burner will. you just dont get it do you first i doubt you know anythign about toms truck. second gearing will elt you do about anything at a sacrifice of something else. to get a gasser to pull what a diesel will you can lower the gearing at the sacrifice of top end speed and fuel mileage. deisel are usually geared correct to match their narrow power/rpm range to the load while gas truck are rarely geared properly. more bullshit. factory gearing almost always allows an engine to run at 1500-2500rpm while crusing at highway speeds in top gear. try doing the math. i have hualed a 13k loaded equipment trailer a few time with my k3500 with not problems or big fuss. think how much easier it would have been with a diesel. oh... sorry... thats right you dont know that since youve never owned one. heck 30 years ago i was hualing 23k grain trailers 20 miles to a mill at harvest time before there was even the dream of a ctd dodge actually ill bet there was a dream of a ctd dodge since the late 70s was when dodge put a small diesel in the pickups to begin with. with a 72 gmc 3/4 ton 4wd with a 350 a 4 speed and 4.10 axle ratios and never had a problem getting the load moving or keeping it moving. never said you had a problem but wouldnt it be nice to double or triple your fuel mileage while doing all that work it was traction limited in 2wd first/granny gear even when loaded and would frequently leave marks into the surface of the county roads when starting out because on the high torque loads placed are contact point of tire to road. which is fancied up lack of knowledge speak for couldnt get enough traction to move the load at high rpm and dont have enough power at low rpm to turn the tires. truck was one of the last of the beasts before emmissions set in big time. yup it was all because of emissions that power went away..... i used to pull a load 4 horse trailer with it a lot too and never had any problem hold speed in 4th on any interstate hill and got 10 to 11 mpg doing it too. wow all of 10-11 mpg i get 25mpg at 60mph pulling a 6000lb trailer. when i pull in the 4wd i dont worry about using more fuel because it doesnt. one time when i was redoing a dam i hauled 2ea 5k cement drain pipes at once on a equipment float with a total weight of close to 15k 60 miles on the interstate atspeed limit without any real problems. you just need the gears and the proper drive line not a oil burner to move a lot of weight. you arent getting this. at all. its fuel efficiency that we like. plus some of what you describe shows exactly how limited you are with a gasoline engine in a hauling truck. increasing sales of diesel powered trucks of all brands dont lie. -- max there are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty soap ballot jury and ammo. please use in that order. -ed howdershelt author tom lawrence wrote hey all you cdt and other diesel owners what kind of fuel mileage do you average inner city and highway i get about 125% of a chebbie 1/2-ton while making about 2.5x the power and weighing about 50% more about 19mpg in mixed 50/50 driving... 21 on straight highway runs. 23 if i keep it in the right lane at 55. 15-16 if im playing make the rice rockets look even sillier. yeah right on the 2.5 x power. if the gas truck is geared properly it will pull just about as much as a oil burner will. it is all in the gearing. deisel are usually geared correct to match their narrow power/rpm range to the load while gas truck are rarely geared properly. i have hualed a 13k loaded equipment trailer a few time with my k3500 with not problems or big fuss. heck 30 years ago i was hualing 23k grain trailers 20 miles to a mill at harvest time before there was even the dream of a ctd dodge with a 72 gmc 3/4 ton 4wd with a 350 a 4 speed and 4.10 axle ratios and never had a problem getting the load moving or keeping it moving. it was traction limited in 2wd first/granny gear even when loaded and would frequently leave marks into the surface of the county roads when starting out because on the high torque loads placed are contact point of tire to road. i could even pull the loads out of the field in 4 lo most of the time if the ground was not too soft and again it was traction limited not power limited. a freind pulled too with a f250 and a 351 with 3.54 axles and a automatic but he would stall out with a load in soft ground and not even be able to spin the tires even in low range. it was no match for my old gmc in pulling power. that truck was one of the last of the beasts before emmissions set in big time. i used to pull a load 4 horse trailer with it a lot too and never had any problem hold speed in 4th on any interstate hill and got 10 to 11 mpg doing it too. one time when i was redoing a dam i hau
