Q: hey budd i see that you are into your wifes makeup bag again mr-d150spam@citlink.net wrote next time try a little clear fingernail polish around the edges of the lens where it meets the gasket. also seals many windshield leaks on non-glued in windshields. -- budd cochran in tribute to the united states of america and the state of israel two bastions of strength in a world filled with strife and terrorism. ------ says... lol it sounds kinky but if you have a boat trailer or live in a damp climate it can make all the difference in the world. -- budd cochran yeah i was having a leaking problem with one of the lights on my caravan and i was going through a bulb a week. that worked out well for me until the new lamp assemblies came in the mail. chas .

unlike some hare-brained folks i never jumped on only one tooth . . . hmmm . . . .pink bunnies cant jump vbg -- budd cochran in tribute to the united states of america and the state of israel two bastions of strength in a world filled with strife and terrorism. ------ ok someone make another gallon or two of coffee for me i obviously havent had enough. . . duh. if it is the original chain it can still be ok but not likely. the one in the 318 in my truck had over 200k on it but it was close to being loose enough to jump time. both engines in stock form have enough clearance to allow the chain to jump without damage and if it did jump time it would retard the cam making a terrible lack of performance if it ran at all which i doubt. budd the couple that ive ran into with a jumped chain would run 1 tooth off doggy as hell but will not run at all two teeth off. denny .

lol yep but it is a bit harder on a 360-2bbl thats still in the 72 b-350 van. still i got it new head / manifold gaskets and a new water pump in two wintry afternoons by myself. -- budd cochran in tribute to the united states of america and the state of israel two bastions of strength in a world filled with strife and terrorism. ------ on mon 08 dec 2003 142908 gmt budd cochran mr-d150spam@citlink.net wrote youre welcome for the help its what most of us are here for. id change it if you plan to keep the car or dont want an irate buyer screaming how you ripped him off. a tip the chain can be replaced by any chain that will fit the 273-360 engine family including a high performance roller chain. a recent mopar muscle magazine shows a 400+ hp build up for the 318 that appears to be pretty good but id use a less cam with the big 5th avenue and stock axle ratios. with that many miles a good rebuild would help a lot with performance and fuel economy. and changing it is not a difficult job - or expensive. there was a self serve gasbar across from the garage i managed in the late seventies.. a plymouth fury refused to start after stopping for a fill-up and the owner came over and asked us to check it out and see what was wrong. the timing chain was out of it and when my kid brother who was working for me at the time told him he thought he was going to have to get a different car. kid brother told him it was nothing serious at all - if he said the word the car would be back on the road for him before quitting time - and get this - it was 430 pm at the time. i ordered the parts and the car was back on the road by 530. my apprentice asked him after the job was done where he kept the second set of hands. that kid always loved a challenge. .

it is on its original chain. so if possible i should get it changed sometime soon or i risk jumping time if my timing chain jumps a tooth resulting in a breakdown right thanks for your help. steve unlike some hare-brained folks i never jumped one only one tooth . . . me neither. but i have found that high faluting people that wont get their mitts dirty will pay good $$ to low-lifes like me to fix their cars. yep but they dont want to risk cancer from being saturated with heavy metals nor will they pay enough for you to get insurance when you get the cancer. hmmm . . . .pink bunnies cant jump $50 and we will see if they can....... put it on account. denny .

steve how many miles are on it have you gone to a lower grade of fuel to try and save money does it make more of the noise climbing a hill or accelerating than when just driving on flat road it from your description sounds like pinging and not a mechanical problem. changing the water pump and timing chain arent big jobs but if you dont need to why do it lets see what we can figure out here. -- budd cochran in tribute to the united states of america and the state of israel two bastions of strength in a world filled with strife and terrorism. ------ 86 318 sedan. ive owned it since 99. for about two years i have had ready to use in my garage and double roller timing chain and a new water pump but i havent found a mechanic that wants to work on the swap. now i hear some faint metallicrumbling/clanging under the hood and thought it might be the timing chain. so far performance is not affected but i am definitely driving the car gingerly. thought it was suspension/or breaks but pep boys just sold and installed a new set of shocks and sent me on my way. breaks arent acting weird or anything but sometimes the sound is located / sounds like on bottom end area which made me think suspension/breaks. i really dont want to wait and mess up the car worse. any comments steve .

dont guess. check backlash. if it is less than 5 degrees you are ok. if 5 to 7 it is marginal. if there is more than 7 degrees backlash you may have to walk home. ot thank you all especially budd. i found your posts enlightening and very helpful. steve unlike some hare-brained folks i never jumped one only one tooth . .. . me neither. but i have found that high faluting people that wont get their mitts dirty will pay good $$ to low-lifes like me to fix their cars. yep but they dont want to risk cancer from being saturated with heavy metals nor will they pay enough for you to get insurance when you get the cancer. hmmm . . . .pink bunnies cant jump $50 and we will see if they can....... put it on account. denny .
