i have taken this problem to two shops and got completely different diagnostics. when i am driving down the road in my 2000 3500 ram van and i turn the steeling wheel just a little to the left i get a feeling in the steering wheel like when the road has been scrapped/gouged for resurfacing. its sorta subtle and i dont think i hear it probably because i have some tire/road noise anyway. it happen when i am going down the road 60-70 mph and the road curves a little to the left. it does not happen when steering to the right. i took it to the dealer and they came up with a cost pretty high. i was surprised and asked to speak to the mechanic. he admitted that he was not certain that was the problem and would need to get into it more to be certain. not willing to write them a blank check i decided to get another opinion. the second mechanic came up with a completely different diagnostic that was much cheaper and seem to be more certain. he could not start on it for a couple of days due to the holidays so i didnt leave it. now i am having second thoughts on him also. it seems that the dodge dealers mechanic should have a better insight on what the problem is. ok first of all neither mechanic has inspired you with confidence. why should the dodge mechanic have a better insight if all he was able to do was test drive it sometimes you have to disassemble some parts to get at the root cause of the problem and yes you would be expected to pay for this additional diagnosis. even the best mechanic in the world needs more than a test drive to ascertain the cause of the problem. if anyone that works on their truck/van or has an idea what this might be would reply with their opinion i would most appreciate it. and if anyone has had this problem before please let me know what the results were. thanks. i am purposely not saying what the diagnostics were because i dont want anyone influence by either mechanic. i will post them in a later post. i dont know what you hope to gain by withholding the mechanics diagnosis. it may be helpful to know what they found. even doctors when giving a second opinion consult each other. finally since you dont have confidence in the mechanics who actually experienced the problem how much credence will you give to us internet experts all we can do is guess at what the problem might be... an educated guess perhaps but nonetheless still a guess which is what you got from two other mechanics. mike .

thanks folks. ill try your suggestions this weekend. gunner i have a 01 dakota 4.7l auto trans. hard as ever to start cold. sometimes hard to start even warm. i have to crank it 3 or 4 times as a norm unless i shut it off and start it within a couple minutes. there are no codes showing. i have already changed the idle air control solenoid valve dealer shop recommended and completely cleaned the intake area including the throttle position sensor. resistance readings on the tps show nothing wrong. once it starts it runs fine. there is a hissing like a vacuum leak behind the intake throat i cant track down and the dealer svc center says is normal. has anyone else here experienced this what was the fix........any suggestions from the rest thanks in advance joe .

stormin mormon wrote my last van was a 79 dodge one ton i think it was. it broke a leaf spring on the drivers side. a friend and i replaced it using only hand tools. his air tools had just been stolen and i didnt have along my plug in impact wrench. that took several hours and many asprins. the other side i brought my impact gun with me and that worked a lot better. from your posts it sounds like hes quoting replacing both springs and the brackets. i think i paid about $150 for a used set of springs. anyhow six bills sounds like it could be an ok price for the job. figure $200 parts and then that makes $400. well at 60 an hour thats about 6.5 hours of labor. which is believable. id suggest to call a spring specialty shop and ask for an estimate over the phone or drive it in for estimate. some spring shops do a high enough volume of work they can get a better price. and it may only need the brackets. hard to find i dont know. never tried. what i do know is that air tools or plug in impact wrench sure makes the job easier. -- christopher a. young you cant shout down a troll. you have to starve them. thanks tom thanks stormin morman. i gave mechanic go ahead to do the work this morning. the brackets are the components that are riveted to the frame rails and to what the shackles are bolted to. there are two on each side. the parts he is supplying are the 4 brackets 2 brand new leaf spring stacks shackles and stainless steel bolts to bolt the new brackets to the frame rails. i understand the work that needs to be done is to grind off the old rivets holding brackets on and then bolt the new brackets on with the stainless hardware. take the new springs and install them to the axle and then hang the whole assy back on the brackets. seems like a lot of work to me. i would rather spend that kind of energy on my 71 vette. truck is otherwise very nice with 120k miles. has i think a 360 v8 with a 5 speed tranny. ac and cruise control. new brakes new rubber and the body is in nice shape. a little bit of rust and a few minor dents but i weld and do bodywork and paint so no problem. behind the seats is a large enough area that i can install a nice bed for my labrador to hang out on. i only paid 1200 for truck and i was told when i bought that the spring work needed to be done. i have an 86 with slant 6 and no air and no cruise that i paid almost the same for 5 years ago that has served me well. this 93 truck is to be the replacement for the 86 truck. regards bob .

hmm. im not sure if its the original battery but it cranks very quickly so i didnt consider that as a problem. i also thought about fuel pressure but i can floor it from a slow rolling start about 20 mph up to 90+ mph and it doesnt bog down so i counted that out. joe i have a 01 dakota 4.7l auto trans. hard as ever to start cold. sometimes hard to start even warm. i have to crank it 3 or 4 times as a norm unless i shut it off and start it within a couple minutes. there are no codes showing. i have already changed the idle air control solenoid valve dealer shop recommended and completely cleaned the intake area including the throttle position sensor. resistance readings on the tps show nothing wrong. once it starts it runs fine. there is a hissing like a vacuum leak behind the intake throat i cant track down and the dealer svc center says is normal. has anyone else here experienced this what was the fix........any suggestions from the rest thanks in advance joe .

check your fuel return line check valve operation in your fuel tank and check for your gaz pump check valveif one off this stay open gaz return in tank and you have air in gaz system and engine will be take more time to start .. 1166615088.797906.308900@79g2000cws.googlegroups.com... also if you have a vacuum leak that is letting in more air than needed at startup. you might want to get that hissing sound fixed. hank .

so far all ive downed is a ringneck pheasant hen actually my antenna did. unfortunately the law in the uk is that the person who hit the bird *cannot* take it home for dinner presumably. however if youre lucky enuf to be in the next car you can. just how many people were deliberately taking pheasant out of season with their vehicles for the legislature to decide a law was needed well thats an easy work-around... you just need to go out in two-person pheasant-seeking hunter/killer teams. lead tags em wingman bags em. .

www.recarbco.com r joe ive got a 75 1 ton 360 and it has a two barrel. first they told me at autozone there were 5 possible models. so ive looked around the web trying to figure out where and which of the numbers on my caburator is the correct one. i cant find a picture of mine and when i called back they said there were only two models and the carb kit covers both. not wanting to waste too much more time im looking for someone who might have an idea where i should look next. ken i have a 71 witha 360. it has a holly on it. it was the most common stock carb back then. -- ------moparman------ ---signature pending yet another assine comment by mianderson--- .
