Q: how about you just replace your battery and end your dreaded click until you wear the battery out again hmm bg your dodge click happens in gm ford and most other brands as well. -- budd if it wasnt important enough for you to take time to vote then its not important to me to listen to you whine about who won or lost. i did some back searching and found a few old articles on this topic but need some more detailed info. i get the dodge click when i turn the key switch over and nothing happens. i wait a bit and try again and it will often start on the second try. i go out and clean wire brush all terminals posts cables boots reconnect and spray with clear lacquer to seal from air and it works ok for about one week and then the dodge click again. dealer wants about $500 to replace starter and solenoid. old article says plunger on starter dosent contact both contacts intermittently and causes the dodge click he says he replaced the contacts for about $12 but gives no details. he mentions that auto electric guy told him mopar starters have this problem. anyone else replaced these contacts in your starter do you need any special tools how long does it take what are the tests i need to do to make sure it has been done properly how much are the parts did it solve the dodge click problem is mopar the only make of starters/solenoid used on 95 dodges thanks and hope you dont get the dreaded dodge click on your truck. .

a lesson in acceleration ------------------------------------ first some useful info * one top fuel dragster 500 cubic inch hemi engine makes more horsepower than the first 4 rows at the daytona 500. * under full throttle a top fuel dragster engine consumes 1 gallons of nitromethane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced. * a stock dodge 426 hemi v8 engine cannot produce enough power to drive the dragsters supercharger. * with 3000 cfm of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition. cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle. * at the stoichiometric 1.71 air/fuel mixture for nitromethane the flame front temperature measures 7050 degrees f. * nitromethane burns yellow. the spectacular white flame seen above the stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing exhaust gases. * dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. this is the output of an arc welder in each cylinder. * spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. after 1/2 way the engine is dieseling from compression plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1400 degrees f. the engine can only be shut down by cutting the fuel flow. * if spark momentarily fails early in the run unburned nitro builds up in the affected cylinders and then explodes with sufficient force to blow cylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the block in half. * in order to exceed 300 mph in 4.5 seconds dragsters must accelerate at an average of over 4gs. in order to reach 200 mph well before half-track the launch acceleration approaches 8gs. * dragsters reach over 300 miles per hour before you have completed reading this sentence. * top fuel engines turn approximately 540 revolutions from light to light! * including the burnout the engine must only survive 900 revolutions under load. * the red-line is actually quite high at 9500 rpm. * the bottom line; assuming all the equipment is paid off the crew worked for free and for once nothing blows up each run costs an estimated $1000.00 per second. the current top fuel dragster elapsed time record is 4.441 seconds for the quarter mile 10/05/03 tony schumacher. the top speed record is 333.00 mph 533 km/h as measured over the last 66 of the run 09/28/03 doug kalitta. putting all of this into perspective you are riding the average $250000 honda motogp bike. over a mile up the road a top fuel dragster is staged and ready to launch down a quarter mile strip as you pass. you have the advantage of a flying start. you run the rc211v hard up through the gears and blast across the starting line and past the dragster at an honest 200 mph 293 ft/sec. the tree goes green for both of you at that moment. the dragster launches and starts after you. you keep your wrist cranked hard but you hear an incredibly brutal whine that sears your eardrums and within 3 seconds the dragster catches and passes you. he beats you to the finish line a quarter mile away from where you just passed him. think about it from a standing start the dragster had spotted you 200 mph and not only caught but nearly blasted you off the road when he passed you within a mere 1320 foot long race course. that folks is acceleration. .

tbone wrote or mike maybe the 51% of americans that voted for him know more than you two do! or maybe that 51% cast their vote out of fear and ignorance. actually it turned out to be 52% but you are probably right. they are all wrong and you alone got it right tom. you are such a hero tom. now you are whining like a child. when you look at the map and see what states and with what population in them voted for him i am more right than you want to think. from what you said in hear your vote for him was a fear vote and perhaps this is why you are whining about what i said now. doesnt matter if 49 states were red at 52% it still adds up to 52% of the population. on the other hand as long as you continue to view it in the manner you are the longer you will continue to lose the elections. keep up the good work............. you really should use punctuation every now and then. it would make your posts more understandable. 52% for a sitting president is not all that impressive especially with the level of fear being spun by the right wing. thats ok though i think that the country can stand 4 more years of looking like a giant bunch of assholes. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

nate i didnt know that kerry felt like this about abortion. kerry doesnt feel this way about abortion and has said so publically many times. lets get to the base of this issue. 1. roe v. wade is a 1970s debate. it has been upheld by the supreme court for over 30 years and is not going to be changed in the foreseable future. to vote based on the abortion issue is to harken back to what is quickly becoming an archaic issue. 2. abortion is a medical procedure like it or not. it is a medical moral emotional health religious and personal issue/decision. when the state starts to legislate in these areas it invades the personal rights of any individual who is placed in this situation. the only previous state that made laws regarding medical procedure was one that was to last a thousand years but fortunately was vanquished. 3. i do not believe abortion is a good idea. i believe that i am not in a position to tell anyone else what to think on this issue since i have no medical credentials and all other areas are personal judgements. 4. it is not my right to impose my beliefs on someone else via government intervention. 5. this issue is bullshit and falls far below the importance of many others that should be part of the voting process simply because the decision by the supreme court is 30 years old. no president will ever reverse roe v.wade since no president will bring his appeal to the court on the grounds of having his rights violated since to date none have had abortions or are capable of having such a precedure. max life liberty and the pursuit of any jackass that threatens it. embellished usnavy slogan that says it all for me as well. roy .

also the autozones here wont clear them anymore. the engine codes obtained in this manner are somewhat vague. to find out whats really happening go over to an autozone parts store. they have an obdii scan tool and will happily read out the codes for you at no charge. except a 96 ram truck isnt an obd-ii system... .

i have the same truck as wayne but an 04. i drove it to ny from wa and back pulling a loaded trailer and with an 8 1/2 lance camper in the bed. i figure about 22000# gcw. the truck had 60 miles on it when i left 6000 16 days later. i struggled to average 10 mpg....worst was 8.5 in the mountains best around 11 on the flat with no wind to buck. i kept my speed around 65. it is kind of a disappointment from my 01 4x2 2500 with 6 sp.......hopefully it will improve. on fri 22 oct 2004 063805 gmt t @nyc.rr.com wrote would like to know what others are getting. thanks tony i just got back from a fairly long trip with my new 3500. since it was the first trip on the new truck. i kept fairly detailed records to see how it compared with my old 93 250 4 x 2. the truck is an 05 3500 quad cab long bed 4 x 4 with 6 speed manual everything is as it came from the factory with no changes. i drove from northern california through eastern oregon parts of western idaho eastern washington over to the seattle area then back to central washington and back home through central oregon. we were not towing the box was empty there was just myself and my wife with the back seat filled with an ice chest and the usual pile of clothing and other assorted stuff that seems to be essential. the total trip mileage was around 3800 miles. driving included a lot of highway miles a significant amount of mountain highways quite a bit of side roads both paved and graveled a small amount of easy 4 x 4 work and some stop and go in spokane seattle and some smaller cities. i calculated the mileage at each fill up and compared it to the console display. i had just under 500 miles on it when i started so i took it a little easy until i got past 1000 miles; that is i drove no faster than the speed limit. after 1000 miles i gradually increased the speed until i pretty much drove at the speed of the faster 25% of traffic. the worst mileage was 17.8 for the stretch which included the most stop and go in seattle the best was 19.5 for the for the stretch which included some gravel roads and easy 4 x 4 driving. overall mileage for the complete trip was 18.6 there was a definite improvement from the beginning to the end as the engine became more broken in. i found the console mileage reading was usually within +/- 2% or about 0.38 mpg of the actual calculated mileage with one exception when it was off by 4%. usually the console was optimistic but it read 1.5% low for one tank. i was not able to spot anything in the type of driving the speed or the terrain that related to the errors in the console readings but 2% dosent seem too bad to me. hope this helps waynej .

the trans itself doesnt need a vacuum line so it may be for the transfer case but a line going to the trans has me baffled. ill double check my truck book. -- budd on tue 02 nov 2004 052631 gmt budd cochran mr-d150@citlinkspam.net wrote yes the 318 and 360 have been balanced differently. all 360s are externally balanced and need either the b&m balanced flex or the correct 360 torque converter for the transmission model 904 or 727. id also like to know where a vacuum modulator line connects on a mopar automatic transmission as they never used one. ford and gm used vacuum modulators but mopar figured out how to get the governor and throttle valve kickdown linkage to do it better. theres a vacuum line thats fixed to the side of the tranny approximately in the same position where one might find it on a turbo 350. i dont know what its purpose it...there is one there however and somebody took the time to neatly fix it to the side of the tranny with nylaties. it may have something to do with the transfer case. im not positive. its been years since i owned anything with a 318 or 360 in it... in fact the last mopar i owned with a 360 in it was a 76 plymouth gran fury.. which consequently pissed through trannys. ken .

its a 5.9 magnum....runs great til about a hour then starts missing blowing black smoke.....then next morning back to running great....its okay... pull the plugs and see what they look like. sounds like youre getting at least one if not multiple cylinders running extremely rich creating misfires black smoke etc. more often than not an o2 sensor problem isnt the sensor itself but something causing the engine to run too rich or too lean. you could have a bad fuel injector that once it gets hot the pintle isnt sealing around the seat letting fuel leak out and causing the rich condition. reading the plugs will give a more complete picture. .

the fog kit from dodge has the relay coil hot side connected to the low beam 12 volt wire. i just pulled the headlight and connected it to the parking light 12 volt line instead. fogs work anytime parking light is on including high beam. but like the first reply said they have limited use with the high beam. turn them on and the area close to the truck is so bright that the high beam seems dimmer in the distance. high beam by itself works better to see the bambis eyes. thanks for the info. 800-1200 lb moose dont quite qualify as bambi maybe bam. while the high beams do work ok the more light you have out there on the sides of the roads the easier it is is to see the moose and slow down. moose arent usually looking your way so you cant see thier eyes and thier coats really absorb light. it is especially nice to see them as far out as possible since im mostly pullling a trailer load of snowmobile on a two lane road. .. scott .

i have about 80000 miles on my dakota but havent driven much in the past few years. i got a cooling system flush about 2 years ago but only drove between about 10000 or 12000 since then. the manual says to do it every 2 years or x number of miles...i think it says about 30000 miles....is it a good idea to change it before winter even if only about 10 or 12k miles but 2 years. im not sure how important the time factor is. i do plan to let it sit in a garage for about 6 weeks this winter when i travel overseas. a related question is some people/mechanics say to change the oil before letting it sit some say change it soon after returning instead. i read somewhere a long time ago that every 3-4 years was the time to change. im curious if that has changed with all the aluminum used in engines now. guess id go with the owners manual or the product recommendation. roy .
