From : ianct

Q: just picked up a dakota club cab the other day and i want to put a camper shell on the bed but id like it to be one that isnt so permanent that i can remove it and put it in the garage when not in use ive looked at leer they look pretty sporty. should i go with them or is there another brand to consider basically i want to be able to use the camper to keep things like luggage we make frequent trips down the state and perishables dry during bad weather and the dog will be in the back as well. tia -ianct .

the tranny fluid change thread reminded me of a coworker and friend of mine who lives 85 miles from our office and has commuted the daily 170 mile round trip every day for the now almost 20-years that ive known him. pete and his brother and father are all shadetree mechanics in their own right and all live within mile of each other in shotgun-modest homes out in the dingy-weeds very near the spot where god laid down the shovel. pete with no formal education beyond high school has electronics and computer-technical & networking savvy that rivals our highest-paid engineers yet he doesnt believe in changing the oil in any of his vehicles.. ever!! petes theory is that he drives so many miles that the expense of performing an oil change every 3-5k miles is both cost and time-prohibitive. of course he drives junk and has never in his life owned a new vehicle or for that matter had anything that had less than 80000 showing on the clock unless maybe the odometer was broken. he *adds* oil as needed ! but has never drained/replaced any except one time i remember when he ran over something that punctured the oil pan. changing transmission fluid or rear-end grease would likely be a similar absurd notion to this fellow! its runnin aint it .

ian you may want to look at snugtop camper covers. the quality is first rate and they have a j hook system which make removal/reinstallation quite easy mike just picked up a dakota club cab the other day and i want to put a camper shell on the bed but id like it to be one that isnt so permanent that i can remove it and put it in the garage when not in use ive looked at leer they look pretty sporty. should i go with them or is there another brand to consider basically i want to be able to use the camper to keep things like luggage we make frequent trips down the state and perishables dry during bad weather and the dog will be in the back as well. tia -ianct .
