Bring on the snow!
From : jonathan kaplan
Q: i just had four studded snow tires installed very hard to find 17 full snow tires on my 2003 ram 1500 2wd. ive designed a frame for the bed to keep sandbags in place over the axle. soon as i buy the sand im set. this is the first time ive had the truck in the winter and my previous experience with a rear wheel drive lincoln town car made me want to prepare for the worst.with all these preparations i can almost guarantee a snow free winter in nj this year. on the other hand nj weather is relatively mild and weve only had one bad winter in five years. i think ill clinch the no-snow guarantee when i bring my snow blower in for a tune up. .

i was going to leave the sand in plastic bags under a tonneau cover. my other option are some free steel lally columns filled with concrete. i also was considering cinder blocks. any idea how much weight would be required i was thinking about 300lbs. this truck is really digging into the highway. it barely rolls on its own when i let go of the gas. the plus side is the larger tires 256/70 17 vs the 245/70 17 that came with the truck make the truck more level and look better. four wheel drive does not mean four wheel stop. ive seen several suvs flipped over off the road or impaled on median strips on my way home down the nj turnpike in the snow. when i purchased the tires i consulted my local tire dealer. he actually could not even get my size i had to order them via the internet he recommended the studs. i did ask the rain question. he had said that they always dig into the highway i guess thats why you cant put them on before nov 15 and have to have them off by april 1 in nj. i hope his recommendation was right. i wish that dodge was not so cheap when it came to abs. they did not include four wheel abs. every gm car and truck comes with four wheel abs. the toyota tundra i passed up also had it. .

i carry about 300lbs. in my 2500 lwb. i use three rubbermaid totes that i drilled through the handle tab and secured the lids with wire ties. i was going to leave the sand in plastic bags under a tonneau cover. my other option are some free steel lally columns filled with concrete. i also was considering cinder blocks. any idea how much weight would be required i was thinking about 300lbs. this truck is really digging into the highway. it barely rolls on its own when i let go of the gas. the plus side is the larger tires 256/70 17 vs the 245/70 17 that came with the truck make the truck more level and look better. four wheel drive does not mean four wheel stop. ive seen several suvs flipped over off the road or impaled on median strips on my way home down the nj turnpike in the snow. when i purchased the tires i consulted my local tire dealer. he actually could not even get my size i had to order them via the internet he recommended the studs. i did ask the rain question. he had said that they always dig into the highway i guess thats why you cant put them on before nov 15 and have to have them off by april 1 in nj. i hope his recommendation was right. i wish that dodge was not so cheap when it came to abs. they did not include four wheel abs. every gm car and truck comes with four wheel abs. the toyota tundra i passed up also had it. .

we used to have a pair of olds 350 diesel heads that fit between the rear wheel well and the tailgate on the 86 ranger i drilled a 3/8 hole thru the bed and stuck a 3/8 x 12 bolt thru them to keep them from sliding around damn - someone finally found a good use for those things! .

tuff country 3 lift kit for 94-01 1500 upper & lower control arms included to maintain proper alignment new track bar bracket included superlift 2.5 lift kit for 94 and up 1/2 ton 4x4 with coil spring suspension new pitman arm to correct steering geometry. okay - so tuff country thinks the control arm geometry needs adjustment but thinks the increased angle on the drag link is ok. superlift thinks the stock control arms and track bar are just fine but thinks the drag link angle needs to be addressed. so... whos right and whos wrong .
