Bearings? Help!

Q: yeah im hoping that mpg gets up to the 14 range sometime in the next few months $35 in week in gas is going to kill me. interestingly i can drive like a bat out of hell for a couple of days and the mileage is reported in the trip computer about the same as when i drive like a grandma for a the same distance. i think the bottom line is that this engine drinks a lot of gas no matter how you drive. at least you get the power with it unlike the 5.9 that had the same or less mpg and 100 less hp. whats qc the truck im looking at is an slt standard cab w/ short bed and clamshell style rear fenders. does it weigh 5700 lb why qc is a quad cab. no i hadnt heard about rough road handling problems. where did you read about it many people in here are complaining about it. the springs seem to be a little too stiff and the rear shocks suck. supposedly replacing the rear shocks helps. how does the dealer explain the 11.1 mpg new engine tightness shouldnt matter that much should it i dont like the sound of that.... engine tightness does have a measurable effect on mpg. it causes the engine to waste power just trying to move its own parts. btw so does the way it is driven and if you like jumping on the hemi to watch it perform expect shit mileage in return. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

universal joint and short drive shaft. you will need to have the universal joint bearings popped out and replaced which requires a press. you dont need to touch the u-joint if all youre doing is replacing the hub. .

look for the steering stops add material by welding or drill & tap for a stop bolt that you can adjust with a lock nut to keep it where you set it. i am looking for ways to limit steering travel on my 2000 dakota as my 33s rub slightly on the frame. dealer tells me they are not available. anyone have advice on how to limit the travel also i recently changed my plugs and now only when the truck is cold it makes an audible sound in the radio. once warm it goes away... any ideas fyi im running autolite plugs.. sean 2k dak qc 4.7/5speed rec.bicycles.marketplace .

and it didnt have any. so the dealer wants to change the senors and the valve body out on it at a pretty price and then if that doesnt they said they might try a new pcm the main computer i think the parts manager was talking about. my haynes manual only went to 96 so im going to look for a 99 haynes for it now. it has around134000 miles out of warranty on it. yeah - find a different place preferably one that specializes in transmissions that will diagnose the problem first instead of playing the well lets see if this fixes it game. the haynes manual wont do you a bit of good... the factory service manual along with the transmission diagnostic book would do you some good if you knew basic transmission service and i dont mean changing the fluid and had a drb/mds to run through the various diagnostics. in short - see the first paragraph. .

found the harness that goes to the cps on the distributor had become lunch for a chipmunk. chewed right thru all 3 wires. reconnected and all is well. what a pain in ass to get back by the distributor who designed this setup! -- ========================== jeff stielau shoreline electronics repair 344 east main street clintonct 06413 860-399-1861 860-664-3535 fax jstielau@snet.net ========================== if you push something hard enough it will fall over. fudds first law of opposition - sir sidney fudd yesterday my 2001 2500 ram 5.9l would not start. engine cranks ok no spark. error code p0340 doing the key click sequence. cam position sensor error no sign of any trouble leading up to this. id be amazed if it was a harness type failure....so there must be a module that has failed. any common failures for this code piece of junk is about 1500 miles out of warranty and this what has become a list of nuisance problems on this truck. -- ========================== jeff stielau shoreline electronics repair 344 east main street clintonct 06413 860-399-1861 860-664-3535 fax jstielau@snet.net ========================== if you push something hard enough it will fall over. fudds first law of opposition - sir sidney fudd .

the only one i have heard of providing even a small increase in low end power and a small increase in fuel economy is the single side swept gibson cat back. about 1.5% of total hp increase. otherwise you would have needed to go with headers and a real dual exhaust with two catalytic converters to get any more gain. i have a 98 dakota 5.2 l v8 and recently installed a flowmaster exhaust cat back system. now my mileage dropped about 25%. what gives i thought these high flow *increased* fuel economy comments are welcomed .

another question if i may be so bold. i wont trouble you this time with how i got the castle nut off. trouble me... im curious tom it was nothing all that clever. i ended up calling a local tire store and they sent out a truck with an impact gun. they normally only do businesses but i honestly think the manager felt bad for me. the guy said his gun went up to 700 foot pounds and it took all it had to take it off. in fact he tried twice and it didnt budge so the third try was going to be the last; thats the one it broke free on. i guess what i was refering to above was the comedy of errors i went through. two broken tools lots of unique discussions about how to get it off lots of swearing a propane torch that wouldnt light trying to find the right size cotter key and socket anywhere from one to three adults staring quielty but intently at this nut trying to will it off etc. funny thing no matter how long and hard we stared it still wouldnt budge! thanks to you and brians shes on the road again. just out of curiosity do you have any idea how much it would have cost to have it done at a dealership including parts thanks again. steve .

wow i knew lar saw a lot of action i guess mike jr was in the thick of it. sounds like he had a hard time of it but hopefully he will make it back to 100% very few marines are going to be getting the bronze star so he must have really distinguished himself over there i know you are proud. please keep me updated on progress and thanks again for you support. hood semper fi hood! glad you made it back from iraq safe and sound. well done marine! mike jr. is also back at camp lejeune. he was wounded in action on april 1st outside of al kut. he was on a humanitarian mission delivering food to the locals when his lav was ambushed by iraqi troops with rpgs and saggers. he was in the turret manning the machine gun when his lav took a hit from a missile. a piece of shrapnel hit him in the wrist and broke the bones and severed tendons and arteries but luckily a second piece of shrapnel was stopped by his flak jacket. the shrapnel tore threw the kevlar but was stopped by the ceramic plate whew!! the docs said that if it werent for the ceramic plate the shrapnel would have severed his aorta! he spent several days and several surgeries in the field hospital in iraq and then spent several days and more surgery in a hospital in kuwait. he was then flown to germany for a final surgery and then onto bethesda nh for evaluation. he is currently being treated by the docs at the nh at camp lejeune. he still doesnt have full use of his right hand and has some numbness in his pinkie and ring finger. the docs are now saying that they will probably operate again soon and try to reconstruct the damage. he was recommended for the bronze star with combat v for his action. thanks for your thoughts about mike jr. and welcome home!! oohrah! mike sr. .

wow. thanks for all the replies. your right mike i didnt keep up with the tire pressure during this period. ive been driving it for nearly a week now and it seems to be getting smoother than it was the first couple of days. i drive 80 miles round trip each day so ive put a lot of miles on them the last few days. im assuming they will wear into their new location to a certain point but some irreversible damage has already been done. lesson learned. thanks for all your input. mike simmons wrote it tickles me to see the posts on this ng and the length posters feel we dealers will go to to screw people and the lengths photos of each wheel they feel the consumer must go to to avoid being screwed! jeesh guys... get a life! we have much better things to do with our time than to sit around trying to figure out how to screw the next customer that comes in the door..... if you read the original post the poster indicated he went a liitle long before his first tire rotation... 15k miles..... yeah.... exactly twice as long as recommended..... and if he was a conscientious about his tire pressures as he was about his rotation schedule do you think it may be possible that his tires were worn a mite unevenly leading to cupping...... hmmmmmm and then when they were finally rotated the uneven tire wear was demonstrated to him as a vibration i think this is much more plausible than the dealer trying to screw him.... but then what do i know mike .

an earlier discussion on this group mentioned that there was something in the on board computer that changed a setting on the carburation at 8000 miles improving mileage. can someone elaborate on this or was it a tongue-in-cheek post my city mileage seems to have increased after 8000 miles but my highway mileage has dropped considerably. don d. .
