max340 wrote face it - you are clueless. then so are you since you agree with what i said this is very unlikely but if the system has .24 ohms resistance the total circuit resistance per bulb would now be 2.64 ohms. 12 volts on 2.64 ohms yeilds 12/2.64= 4.54 amps. apply ohms law and the bulb sees ixr=4.54x2.4=10.896 volts. the resistance sees ixr = 4.45x.24=1.0896 volts. as i said and you repeated seeing 11v at the lamp is very unlikely. your math proves that to be correct. the math didnt prove it to be correct. he gave an example with those easy numbers so you could follow it - .24 ohm wiring 2.4 ohm lamp his example before that was even easier - 2.4 ohm wiring 2.4 ohm lamp anyway http//www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/relays/relays.html might make that light bulb turn on in your head. notice the title of the first section common sense required beyond this point then scroll down to why use relays ponder the numbers there... 13.5 volts available bulb gets 100% 13.500v light output is 100% 13.5 volts available bulb gets 95% 12.825v light output is 83% 13.5 volts available bulb gets 90% 12.150v light output is 67% 13.5 volts available bulb gets 85% 11.475v light output is 53% .

to all i have no idea where this $2-3000 estimate is coming from but you are way of the mark. first if you are hot rodding a used ram it is only reasonable to repair/rebuild until it is up to spec. then after that investment is made you do the exhaust intercooler manifold air filter fass fuel lines gauges electronics injectors and maybe even the turbo as this is a 2nd gen machine. remember you still have a 2nd gen machine. you should do a financial analysis first. you would probably be better off starting with a new machine. these are expensive trucks. i have a new 04 555 ho 3500 6 speed dually that i did all this to. i performed all the labor myself and im looking at something slightly friendlier than 50k and i bought the core at the right price! dont be so optimistic about the costs. it is the little bits and pieces that sneak up on you. steve i totaled my ram 1500 reg cab earlier this year. i really liked it. i have decided to get another 99 this week a 2500 ext. cab with the cummings turbo diesel. i was told that there is minor differences between the newer 600 ft lb diesel and the older model and i could install a performance chip to get the same results by installing one. is this so can anyone point me to some links that has discussion on it or a place that sells the chip does fuel performance go down i would think it would. thanks! .

sure we do. dont need it havent used it in 15 years but i got one--just in case. ;- billygoat wrote i dont think any of us would have an oscilloscope. just use a multi-meter volt-meter. -- need to test my alternator for shorts dont have an oscilloscope can i do this and if so how. thanks matt .
