Ball Joints
From : allen
Q: take it and have it looked at if it concerns you dont play around with suspension problems i have a 98 dakota and i think the ball joints are failing. the steering has become loose and when i turn say through a fast food drive through i here a clunking kind of sound and at highway speeds every litte bump in the road will cause the truck to bound all over the road. even on city streets the truck seems to bounce around way to much. . is this in fact my ball joints breaking down or could this be some other problem .

wife has a 2002 durango. had noise in front and they replaced the upper ball joints. it feathered the front tires and they told the wife it had nothing to do with the ball joints yeh right! anyway i still hear noise! have you guys had the bottom ones replaced also yea..right....ball joint issues wont feather tires. tie rods will....toe issues will....caster and camber issues wont. might want to check your battery tray as thats the #1 issue with popping and banging noises on those that i have seen. bunch came back to posp dealer that the units were not secure...hit a bump and bingo... -----= posted via feeds.com uncensored usenet =----- http//www.feeds.com - the #1 group service in the world! -----== over 100000 groups - 19 different servers! =----- .

if the ball joints are loose wont the toe change slightly as they shift in and out causing the tires to wear you are confusing them with tie rods... the tie rods control as it were toe. ball joints affect caster and camber in some cases. the worst thing that will happen is that as they shift the tire will angle in or angle out but not toe in or toe out. sean rec.bicycles.marketplace .

i got the components down but i think the ball joints could cause some slight wear related to toe. if the toe is set and the ball joints have slop the spindle will tilt in and out +- camber as camber changes the tie rods length remains the same causing the wheels to toe slightly from the initial setting. i suspect the variation would be very small but it would still exist. thoughts sean rec.bicycles.marketplace .
