Q: i had one on my old d-150 mounted just above where the hose turned up to go into the water pump. inside of it was a simple single loop heating element that would not offer significant restriction to engine pumped flow. if the engine was warmed up and the heater plugged right in it would keep the whole engine warm in as cold as 18 degree weather. for temps like 5 or 10 degrees i blocked the front of the radiator with a baby blanket. colder than that it didnt keep up too well but it was only a 1500 watt heater. the cooling effect of the radiator appeared to be a designed in part of its operation. the instructions said to make sure the unit was as close to vertical the axis of the tube as possible and no less than 30 degrees from horizontal. the freeze plug mounted block heater that was on my old fury 383 wouldnt heat the right side at all even with the thermostat open. i had to buy a second heater in install it . . .then the light bill jumped about 10 bucks! merry christmas! -- budd whats the difference between a bad golfer and a bad skydiver one goes whack darn and the other goes darn whack. aha a very good point and well beyond his scope of knowledge but then sos a box of crayons. to be honest ive never seen a coolant heater in a 2 hose when that hose is critical to keep clear since its directly to or from the radiator. second its unlikely a block heater would use the radiator hose due to the amount of energy it would take to heat that cross section of water. third it would be silly to put it there since it means drawing or pushing water through the component most likely to cool the water thats just been heated. that said its possible they exist. however given all the above it means tommy boy is barking up a tree with no quarry amongst the branches. max life liberty and the pursuit of any jackass that threatens it. embellished usnavy slogan .
