it is more of an ego thing and the fact that many of the trolls in groups tend to be kids using web tv. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving i use a webtv and wasnt aware that it was looked down upon by people. i think most of the webtvers have a computer as well. webtv has its advantages inexpensive pretty much zero maintenance no viruses ever...why dont people like them i must be missing something. but then im kinda stoopid - .

to jerry i need to change brands of beer. customers arent paying well lately so i have to buy the cheap stuff. unlike those that bitch because they chose to spend $45k on a set of wheels. brent master ase and gold certified chrysler technician .

on thu 3 feb 2005 213745 -0700 drgn1400@webtv.net brent d wrote many of you have suggested i find new employment because i am unhappy with the way i am payed. could we stray any further from the truth i never said i was unhappy. i simply stated that there are too many people standing in the service department demanding an item covered under warranty when it has expired. its not the dealerships fault you never opened the warranty manual that accompanied your new vehicle. brent - ill agree with you -to a point. however the salesmans responsibility is to explain the warranty clearly to the buyer. the service adviser/managers job is to make sure when the vehicle comes in close to the end of warranty taht the customer is reminded the warranty is coming close to the end and ask if there are any issues that should be addressed before the warranty expires. yes you get paid more for doing it after its off warranty - but you also end up with customers who curse you at every opportunity and will never buy another vehicle from you or trust you explicitly to look after them and their vehicles again. it was also suggested that dealerships want the service work as well because we are searching for deeper pockets and customer pay labor times are too high. yes and no. in way too many cases dealerships do put off repairs until warranty is off if they think they can get away with it. yes i go to work hoping customers will spend money. it might be hard to understand but this is how a business works. dont you go to work for the simple idea of making money so do i. no making money is only part of the reason i go to work every day. generally i also do it because i enjoy the work - and enjoy providing service. customer pay labor times are higher than warranty for the simple reason that they are more realistic. yes and no. a good mechanic can generally beat the flat rate on the majority of warranty repairs. this is because generally warranty repairs are done on relatively new vehicles where siezed parts and other difficulties are not expected to be encountered. out of warranty rates are calculated to provide the extra time to clean up and free up the crap that you tend to run into on older vehicles. you win some and you loose some. cant ride the gravy trane all the time. example a complete overhaul of a 47re automatic pays approx. 9.6 hours under warranty. if i dont breathe fart take a lunch or get a drink of water i might make this time. customer pay is approx. 15 hours. it is more realistic if you want every part cleaned and inspected. can you remove rebuild including the inspection and cleaning of every part and install a diesel automatic in one day yes most times a dealership has a higher labor rate. an independant is not required to purchase thousands of dollars in special tools monthly to complete recalls and needed repairs and prevent unnecessary hammer swinging. and ive seen more expensive special service tools gathering dust in the back corner of the dealership while some hamfisted ase certified factory trained gorilla beats the shit out of something because he thinks its faster than going to get the right tool and figure out how to use it. the independant does not spend thousands of dollars a year to factory train the technicians to specialize on the vehicle you drive. yet many independents have and more effectively use the proper tools for the job - and when they invest in specialized training it casts them more than the dealership. when i sent my mechanics for factory training from the dealership all it cost me was the mans wages for the day and the use of a company car and gas to head to the training center. when i sent mechanics from an independent garage i also had to pay for the training unless it was a glorified sales seminar provided by a supplier like moog etc. not every dealership is honest and has the best trained technicians ill give you that. i still find it hard to believe that a person is smart enough and wealthy enough to finance a $45k+ vehicle that they were not educated enough to factor in maintenance and repairs into the monthly budget. just because comeone can make enough money to afford to buy a $100k vehicle does not mean he has any smarts when it comes to vehicle knowledge. generally it is the other way around. the guy who knows anything about vehicles buys only what he needs - knowing a vehicle is quite possibly the worst investment a man can make. if a person is concerned enough with their vehicle and how much they spent to get it to have every squeak and rattle repaired under warranty then they should be concerned enough to have their after-warranty repairs done by a specialized technician - regardless of the small cost difference. only if the specialized technician has earned their trust and respect. if the dealership mechanic/service manager/service writer has proven t

im just full of questions this week actually found time and enough dry air to wash and wax the truck yesterday winter in england is long days of moderate cold and depressing drippy days. im noticing that theres a lot of inclusions in my paint which i previously removed with a kind of clay. it worked really well. so well my current clay is rather jaggy and will probably scratch if i try to use it again. first question is clay the best way for me to remove the inclusions or is there something better i did buy a german-made liquid wax called mer i think which said itd pull that stuff out but only pulled something less than half of what i can feel. im not sure i like it. since i spent all that time washing/waxing it of course is misty today and the mer isnt beading up properly. if itd stop misting for a bit id try another coat... second question if clay is the best way whats a recommended brand and where can i get it im going back to the us on a business trip this spring and this is on my list of things to buy. third question what do you consider to be a high-quality wax that can help protect my truck from this rather hostile environment even if i was to wash it every day itd be constantly dirty. they grit here nearly every night in the winter because if its actually clear at night it frosts so hard the roads are icy. so even on dry days the roads can be damp and throw up grit which does have salt. and on wet days the roads are wet and throw up grit and mud. jodi longing for spring. or snow. anything but this depressing british drizze. .

nosey wrote mr. troll. the web.tv thing gave you away. you should have left that part out. it was almost a convincing post that i would have swallowed myself but bringing the attention to yourself posting from web.tv was what killed it. the post has many of the classic tried and true hoax virus characteristics common usenet trollers use. you picked these 1. identify yourself with the target demograpic. 2. qualifiy yourself as a subject matter expert or claim a personal relationship of one. 3. find a topic you think will spark a controversy within the demographic and take an opposite stand. pretty smooth but no dice. next time try explaining why you are a disgruntled employee and leave out the web.tv and fried computer thing. we also havent had a queen regular here in years. anyone remember her name im thinking it was sue -- reading this group for more than 5 years. dragon lady or dragon something our trans who claimed to have periods dale your thinking of ole phud...phaedra dragon.. which was dds alter ego...depending which way he pulled his pantyhose on of course.. denny .

nate youre an idiot. need i say more because i dont think i will have to try real hard to convince anyone else. it is really neat how you butcher my postings to suit your responses. i wouldnt expect much else from such a warranty king. if you think you know so much on what technicians do wrong maybe you should try your hands at the business and see what you can do better. brent master ase and gold certified chrysler technician .

you were dumb enough to pay for repeated repairs on this truck with out knowing what was going on with it. what an assinine response. if everyone knew what was going on they wouldnt need to pay mechanics in the first place. his point which you obviously missed is that instead of doing it right by finding the cause they just continued sucking money from him. that you would present this as his own fault bewilders me. if you had a bent driveshaft you obviously use the truck hard and should have been complaining of a vibration at highway speeds. so its his fault that the dealership failed to diagnose the problem astounding. -- nathan w. collier http//7slotgrille.com http//utilityoffroad.com .
