B3500 bumper tow capacity?

From : Annonymous

Q: on 2006-01-04 134403 -0600 tbone tbonenospam@nc.rr.com said you need to put a fuel pressure gauge on it to see if it is fuel related. as for you question from a previous post the fuel pump does not run continuously with the ignition on and the vehicle not running. the pump will run for a few seconds when the ignition is first turned on and then shuts down. this is probably done to prevent the battery from being killed by people that leave the ignition on for extended periods of time with the engine not running. if you want to attempt to build up pressure you can turn the ignition on for about 5 seconds turn it off for about the same period of time and back on for 5 more seconds. your description of the way it starts sounds more like a flooded engine than a fuel starved one. is there any smoke at all when it starts or the smell of unburned fuel yes there has been a little bit of white smoke coming from somewhere under the hood and i can theres an odor of gasoline. is it possible to flood a fuel injection system i thought that was a carburator problem. what would be causing the flooding could it be a sign of the pcm module gone bad .

im used to using regular hitches is there anything to else to consider using a bumpber hitch less rearward turn angle yep... i can always tell the vehicles that tow from the bumper... theyre the ones with the two dents on either side of the license plate try and use a trailer with a straight tongue instead of a v that joins at the coupler. this will increase your turning radius. .

hi all i have a 2004 ram 2500 ho ctd srw swb. im showing a fault code p0633. does anyone know what that is i just had the truck to the dealer last week to replace the transfer pump. they also listed on the work order that they re-flashed the truck. i would assume that re-flashing would clear any old codes so this must be something new since last week. tia malcontent southern californias four seasons earthquake mudslide brushfire and riot .

tom lawrence wrote before you bunper tow price a class three hitch. he already said he cant fit a hitch because of the cng tank. no he just said he doesnt believe he can fit a frame hitch not that he definitely cant fit one. it runs off cng and i believe the tanks are too big to mount a frame hitch. if he checks the dimensions he might find one that fits. .

dodge ram 1999 318. 4x4 when a catalytic converter gets clogged or goes bad or whatever it does and causes the engine to not be able to run acts as if its ran out of gas does the clog and lack of air flow send messages to the computer that then send a message to the spark plugs not to fire a strong spark so if this truck were given to an inexperienced mechanic this mechanic might think the plugs wires rotor and cap are bad because there isnt a strong spark and when he changes all these and it still wont start he then thinks the computer has gone bad. does this sound like something that could happen cause i think its exactly what is happening to me. ive had my truck in the shop since dec 6th. its now january 5th. the mechanic first ruled out the fuel pump then he said it needed new plugs wires rotor and cap. then he said he still cant get it to run couldnt get a good spark so he thought it was the computer gone bad. so he bought a used one after we ourselves looked around and found one for way under the $400.00 he wanted to charge us and had the truck towed to a dodge repairshop so they could flash the computer. now since the truck has been at this dodge place the same mechanic calls us and says he recently discovered that this truck had a recall for catalytic converters and that we are getting a new one free of charge. what i think happened is this. it was the catalytic converter all along causing the symptoms that he couldnt diagnose. and when the truck ended up at the dodge place with skilled mechanics he was told what the real problem was. being that he now would look like a fool if he told us it was the catalytic converter all along even after i asked him if he had looked into it being the catalytic converter and he said but that has nothing to do with the spark being weak. and we didnt really need the new plugs wires rotor cap and computer he made up the story about there being a recall so we would think that wed actually still have to pay for all the new uneeded parts he just put in. how far off am i thanks for any help. .

i have a 1986 dodge 4x4 150 which will not charge. it has a new battery new cables rebuilt alternator tested and a new regulator. the ammeter does not work. the needle never moves. if it is burned out will it interupt the charging curcuit im out of ideas. to answer your question yes -- if the ammeter is open you will get no charging current into the battery. . try to find a wiring diagram. starting in 1980 the charging current did not go through tha ammeter. the ammeter was connected across a portion of the wire between the alternator and the battery with a couple of about 20 gauge wires effectively using the feed wire as a shunt for the ammeter. an open ammeter will make no difference. a more likely area to look at is either of the two heavy plug type connectors in the 6 ga wire between the alternator and the battery or the 14/12 ga fuse link in the same wire. i stand corrected... if the shunt is open youll get no charging current. .

that makes good sense. i rarely use the dodge anymore. probably drive it less than a 1k miles a year. the last time i used it last summer the guage just stopped working. used the truck last week to move some firewood and took the time to test the guage. the guage works when i disconnected the wire at the sending unit and used a test light to complete the circuit. ill ground the tank and see if that helps. really need to get this guage working because i think i need to make a 1200 mile run in the dodge this summer. thanks for the advice and replies. its also possible that the float which operates the sender has sunk to the bottom of the tank. with the tank empty remove the sender and fuel pickup -- there should be a retainer ring & rubber gasket. if you can hear liquid sloshing inside the float thats the problem. pinholes in the float can be sealed with solder -- because of the explosion hazard dont use a torch. clean any leftover flux with alcohol. bryan .

before you bunper tow price a class three hitch. they are not very expensive not hard to put on. you are towing bikes that total what in value i have a 94 dodge van b3500. i believe its like the 15 passenger version. it runs off cng and i believe the tanks are too big to mount a frame hitch. so now my question is.. i want to tow several 450-500 pound motorcycles about 600 miles to bike week. whats my best configuration and how heavy of a trailer can i tow from the bumper rear seats are gone. should i load two bikes in the back or just tow and then how much weight can i expect the bumper to pull without damage/risk .

From : thesnoman

thanks! i found that the van came with a manual! duh on me. it recommends 2000 pounds from the bumper. the rear doesnt hang too far away from the backwheel. i measured around 31 inches from center of the rear hub to the ball on the bumper not straght to the ball mind you but if the ball were mounted say on the right corner of the bumper and i measuered there to the axle. its not one of those vans that has like 4 feet hanging behind the rear wheel. so im figured i can tow about 4 bikes for a total of under 2000 pounds... with 200-300 tongue weight... now im thinkng i should be able to put two more bikes in the back if theyre at around 400 pounds each. so it looks like i can take 6 bikes. anyone see a problem with this setup originially i was thinkng open trailer.. would there be any benefits to using an enclosed trailer im used to using regular hitches is there anything to else to consider using a bumpber hitch less rearward turn angle .
