Autotrans disassembly

Q: yep one would think all codes would be generic but that would make sense. like one oil filter one spark plug type one motor oil type one coolant type one transmission fluid type to fit all make and models of a particular auto manufacture. then i woke up from a cold sweat. lets not leave out the one unit of measure... metric or sae not both. stop with the torx heads the 12-point heads the octagonals and any other off-the-wall one-off fastener. yeah... dare to dream... .

had my 2001 ram 5.9l in for some work and the dealer gave the usual list of things i need to pay them for! they said the throttle body needs to be cleaned. their charge is $200. they said its that high because they remove it for cleaning. truck has 66k on it and runs fine. is this something that needs to be done routinely and does it really take that much labor .

no they are not the same thing. the tb or throttle body controls the amount of air entering the intake manifold. yup. a tb spacer fits between the throttle body and the manifold with the idea of smoothing out the airflow perhaps but more likely its to add length to the intake tract in an effort to get more low end torque. not that it always works thta way. smoothing air flow by adding a second mating point seems a bit odd. better idea is to use something that will produce laminar air flow which could be added with the spacer but usually is not. into the intake for better fuel atomization and allowing more air to get into the cylinders. atomization perhaps yes. more air into the cylinders nope. as you just said the tb regulates that not the spacer. ultimately the spacer is a debatable add on but a cheap experiment. -- max give a man a match and he is warm for a short while. light him on fire and he is warm for the rest of his life. no they are not the same thing. the tb or throttle body controls the amount of air entering the intake manifold. a tb spacer fits between the throttle body and the manifold with the idea of smoothing out the airflow into the intake for better fuel atomization and allowing more air to get into the cylinders. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving would like to get a little more out of my 90 model 3.9 dak. and the most common suggestion that i see on the web is change out the tb to either an improved v6 or a v8. when i start shopping around ebay etc. i see a lot of tb spacers but no tbs. they are not the same thing are they what difference thanks .

remove the spooge to reply i have a 2003 1500 quad cab with the 5.7 lite hemi. it has been the worst truck i have ever had on fuel. i get if im lucky about 12 miles per gallon i wont buy another dodge after this one. the hemi is a joke i mean i can see using alot of gas if it hadpower but i dont see any diffrence between the hemi or the standard v8 it still amazes me that people buy a truck that has the aero of a brick then to top it off they add a so called hi-performance engine. then they bitch about poor mileage!! i just dont get it. this guy apparantly has determined that his hemi is lacking in performance. could it be that he is driveing with his foot to the floor to make it go fast hmmm... foot to the floor and poor mileage do ya think there may be a connection nah silly me no way that type of driveing and shitty mileage could be related. wtf was i thinking of roy its a truck drive it like a truck fill it like a truck use it like a truck them park it when you dont need it. i do less then 3000 miles a year in my truck. my motorcycle does 1300 miles a month. my dak gets about 11-12 mpg no matter what i do. i accept this because its a truck with a v8 and i like to use that v8 when ever i can. a tank will last me about a month and a half. drive it like you sole it. my 98 ram 318 4x4 gets on the average 15 mpg i feel luck at that and has 150k on it. big power = poor mpg a fact of live. i damn near bought a 2500 with the v-10 that would of really sucked. -- coasty sempar paratus always ready .

thats your fault. shoulda did your research before buying and shoulda gone 600 ft lb diesel that would have been hard to do in 03 and even harder still in a 1/2-ton... not really because the ho 600 ft lb diesel came out in 03 and who said he had to get a 1500 .
