Automatic Transmission on My 94 Dakota
From : xpirate
Q: 03ramhemi this must have been discussed in this group a 1000 times before so please excuse me for asking again. im sitting here looking at the latest brochure from dc about the warranty upgrades for my 2003 ram qc and wondering should i or shouldnt i. i can say for the most part i have owned cc/dc all my life and never purchased the upgrade but after one bad experience with a gm product i starting to think that it may not be a bad idea. extended warranties are insurance and should be treated as such. i usually buy extended warranties if i can get a decent price for a factory one. stay away from 3rd party warranties and do not pay list price for a factory dc warranty. .

do not continue to drive it like that unless you want a full tranny rebuild. if there is little wear on the tranny it needs several o-rings and seals replaced internally. should be around a $500-$700 total job. it could also just be bad fluid. you did not say the transmission fluid was flushed and replaced just a fluid and filter replacement. what about the bands were they readjusted did you check the fluid level properly with the truck warmed up and put in drive with the parking brake set or per the owners manual low fluid will also cause this. that tranny is well known for the o-ring on the speed sensor leaking fluid out as well as the rear main seal on the tranny both relatively low cost repairs. david i recently bought a 1994 dodge dakota with the magnum v6 automatic trans a/c cruise etc and 112k miles &engine had the bottom end rebuilt at 95000. everything works fine except the shift on the transmission. when its cold or it has not been driven for about 15 minutes the transmission refuses to shift normally. it either hangs in second or third gear and no amount of acceleration or slowing down seems to have any effect on the shift or lack of it until it gets good and ready. i had it serviced new fluid and filter thinking it was in need but nothing has changed. i have never owned one before and even though i bought it cheap $1500 the transmission is getting to be a problem. any ideas or suggestion really appreciated. walt .

well i took the truck in to the transmission shop and they ran the diagnostic test on all electronic and computer related parts and all that checks out ok including the heat sensor. he has decided that the cooling lines from the tranny to the coil has probably gotten slubbed up and only lets the fluid circulate after it gets hot enough. we will try to clean out the cooling coils and lines next week and see if that works. definitely acts like the fluid is not circulating enough to let it shift until it gets warm so hopefully that has something to do with the way it acts. after that we have to look inside.. thanks again; walt on sun 07 sep 2003 111750 gmt ron s. rwsulli@nospamearthlink.net wrote i have the same identical truck and love it. i have none of the problems that you speak of and i have 142k on mine. i work with a guy whos father owns a transmission shop. i will print and forward your post to him and see what he says about it. ron .
