Autoland Strikes Again!

From : jonathan kaplan

Q: today i brought my ram 1500 in for an oil change. autoland of springfield nj offered a special for $15 on their website. i make an appointment arrive at 800am. 900 am truck not touched 1000am truck not touched 1030 am mechanic goes to work on truck. cant work on it because they lost the keys! i thought that this only happened in the sales department. apparently one of the porters forgot to return the key to the rack. no one remembered moving the truck. they said no problem they will make another set. two hours later i get my truck back with two keys that dont look anything like my originals. i go home stop the truck and try the keys in the door. they dont turn. it also sticks on the ignition and wont go to the accessory position. i stop home grab my spare original key and ride back to the dealer. they admit that they used the wrong blank then take my only remaining copy to cut a new key. i thought that i might never see it again fortunately the copy did work correctly. while i was there i purchased one more copy just in case. i did end up getting the oil change free along with a coupon for a free car wash. it was raining today so it wouldnt pay to clean it. the moral of the story is that next time i go to a local garage or jiffy lube. .

autoland is one of the biggest dodge dealers in the country! unfortunately their service is sub-standard. so far ive been dealing with them and a smaller dodge dealer and am not impressed with either of them. .

let me tell you about my jiffy lube experience. 95 dakota clubcab 2wd. after an oil change it used more oil than usual which was none. 3quarts between changes. the next change i did myself which i normally do myself. the drain plug came out entirely to easy. after draining oil i went to put the plug back in and it was stripped. there i sat no oil in truck and a plug that would not tighten up. the wife was out of town and had to walk 1 1/2 miles to parts store for an over sized self tapping plug. after returning to jiffy lube i was told to contact the customer service department. i did with no response. needless to say i did all of the oil changes after that. i now have a 03 qc 1500 which i will only take to the dealer for service since i am told for the warranty to be honored i need to keep records. if they do it it is in there computer. greg o wrote it really does not matter where you take your vehicle as long as you get good service. making generalities about poor service at jiffy lube can be compared to generalities about poor service at dealers. i have been taking company vehicles to the local jiffy lube for 15 years not one problem other than the sales pitch on air and fuel filters and so on which i refuse. on the other hand i would not take my vehicle to the local dealership if my life depended on it! true that there are some bad dealers around. but imho the odds of finding a decent jiffy lube are slim to none. at least at the dealer the odds of them putting in the right fluids are good. quick lube places will tell you for dodge trannies its fine to put in everyday fluid plus an additive. id rather have the right fluid in the first place. quick change lube places tend to use inferior filters that just arent worth the risk. using a cheap oil filter just is not worth it imho. .

i had an almost identical experience as you but with a far better outcome. like you i ordinarily dont use the instant oil change shops but it was late july 99 and hotter than hell and i was working 4 hrs ot almost every evening so i really kind of went there in a pinch. the truck was about 18 mos old at the time. as in your case their pit-rat stripped the threads on the drain plug but i discovered it the next morning when i backed my 97 ram out and discovered a puddle of oil on my beautiful pristine driveway! i immediately went back to jl and explained the problem to julio the store mgr. julio pulled my truck into one of the bays and went down into the pit himself to take a look. sure enough problem confirmed. julio next got on the phone and then after a few minutes handed me the phone so i could talk to whomever it was at the other end. the outcome was that they agreed to handle everything. i was to take the truck to the dodge dealership and jl customer service was going to call ahead and arrange a rental car. jl paid a days rental charges for a mid-size car and also arranged with a local power-wash outfit to clean up the mess in my driveway. the dealership repaired the damage by cutting new oversize threads and then put in a helicoil and a new i assume new drain plug. and no i probably wont ever go back but feel like this is one of those all too rare times when they got it right. im sure between the rental car and cost of repairs and paying to have the mess cleaned up that jl was probably out somewhere between $2-300 plus they also refunded the cost of the oil change. about 3 weeks later i also got a letter from jl corporate apologizing for the snafu and inquiring if repairs were satisfactory. triegel@wi.rr.com writes let me tell you about my jiffy lube experience. 95 dakota clubcab 2wd. after an oil change it used more oil than usual which was none. 3quarts between changes. the next change i did myself which i normally do myself. the drain plug came out entirely to easy. after draining oil i went to put the plug back in and it was stripped. there i sat no oil in truck and a plug that would not tighten up. the wife was out of town and had to walk 1 1/2 miles to parts store for an over sized self tapping plug. after returning to jiffy lube i was told to contact the customer service department. i did with no response. needless to say i did all of the oil changes after that. i now have a 03 qc 1500 which i will only take to the dealer for service since i am told for the warranty to be honored i need to keep records. if they do it it is in there computer. greg o wrote it really does not matter where you take your vehicle as long as you get good service. making generalities about poor service at jiffy lube can be compared to generalities about poor service at dealers. i have been taking company vehicles to the local jiffy lube for 15 years not one problem other than the sales pitch on air and fuel filters and so on which i refuse. on the other hand i would not take my vehicle to the local dealership if my life depended on it! true that there are some bad dealers around. but imho the odds of finding a decent jiffy lube are slim to none. at least at the dealer the odds of them putting in the right fluids are good. quick lube places will tell you for dodge trannies its fine to put in everyday fluid plus an additive. id rather have the right fluid in the first place. quick change lube places tend to use inferior filters that just arent worth the risk. using a cheap oil filter just is not worth it imho. .
