Q: on 25 oct 2005 082627 -0700 audaxrex@hotmail.com wrote .=2e.the ignition lock on my van has disintegrated. basically the sleeve that goes into the barrel came out with the key and a lot of pins and springs fell out too. it had been loose for a while and causing some electrical trouble too i think but now its history. ive looked thru the faqs and still am in the dark. the van is a long tow from a garage rural quebec. sooo - i briefly once was able to get the assembly to turn with a flat-headed screwdriver but no longer. i can see a vaguely d-shaped hole at the bottom where i stuck the screwdriver but there is a now-rounded stub of metal in it that keeps me from getting a grip. my questions then 1 any way to get the stub out the vans a beater and i would be happy to just use a screwdriver in future. 2 it looks like to disassemble the switch and lock i must remove the shroud from the steering column and to do that it looks like i must remove the steering wheel. anybody know a diagram or instructions for doing this on the web thanks for any help - =d0=aa=d7 my email eddress is audaxrexshorts@3web.net - remove shorts to get the real address. you can buy a new cylinder. the cover must come off because there is a button you need to press while the key is in to remove it. instructions come with the cylinder. beekeep .

nathan w. collier wrote i want to be able to load up the entire family and head out into the mountains for atv/ruv/mx riding weekends. my goal is to get a camper and since well be taking 2 atvs and 4 dirt bikes we need to tow my 18 enclosed trailer http//utilityoffroad.com/forum/topic.asptopicid=4364 which limits us to a slide in type camper. ive been looking at a few different models and brands and the only ones that appear big enough for all of us are the slide ins with overhang over the rear bumper. i dont know much about these setups and how they work in relation to trailer towing. my trailer is 3000 pounds empty. add the atv/ruv/mx and gear and im looking at somewhere around 6000 pounds with probably 600 pounds of tongue weight. i have the stock class iv hitch on my tow rig http//inlinediesel.com/trucks/3gen/1/index.html and i dont know if it could safely support 600 pounds of tongue weight on a 3 or 4 foot hitch extension. any knowledgeable advice on this would be greatly appreciated. are there any other concerns i should be aware of any reason why i should be concerned about hauling a 3500 pound camper in the back of the truck while simultaneously towing up to 10000 pounds any camper specific recommendations how about a good camper dealer thanks how about a toy hauler trailer with a camper in the front. i see them all the time. a 4 foot touge with a 500lb tongue with a 500 lbs weight on it will not play well. -- ----------------- www.thesnoman.com .

some of them may have voted for wallace in one or more of his runs for president. he ran as a democrat in 1964 1972 and 1976 but didnt get the nomination and as an american independent party candidate in 1968. he carried alabama among a handful of southern states. i dont even consider his runs for president. he never made it - may have! i read the lines in birmingham they love the governor / now we all did what we could do / now watergate does not bother me / does your conscience bother you as suggesting that watergate doesnt bother the lyricist because he did what he could do and that nixon supporters should look at what their boy has done before booing wallace. according to ed they didnt care about watergate. it was too far away. they werent comparing nixon to wallace. wallace didnt really recant till the late 70s and sweet home alabama came out in 1974. im just saying the guy wasnt some hard core racist running around with his bedsheet wrapped around him. the music is one matter the lyrics another. besides in my experience people rarely think about rock lyrics too deeply. its just a song. a damn good one at that. non-politicians can make political statements. clearly the song has some political content as it talks about a politician mentions a political scandal and criticizes another song with political content. but what impact does this song have politically none. that was nice of him. ed is a great guy. not the hard core racist i think youre seeing them as... ari asik@despammed.com .

on tue 25 oct 2005 200450 gmt tbone tbonenospam@nc.rr.com wrote did you do a compression check a sticky valve likely wont show up on a compression test. now this would depend on how bad the valve was sticking now wouldnt it. a worn guide usually wont either. and also would not normally cause a misfire so what exactly is your point worn guides also normally cause smoke before they get bad enough to cause poor running. nor will a bad lifter in many cases. and that will also not cause a misfire so again what is your point as tom said a compression check is also a required test to formulate a valid diagnostic. the valve could be carbon locked which would show on a compression test and for all we know there could be carbon buildup causing excessive compression that could be causing the spark to be blown out indicating a possible weak coil. i would also put the vehicle on a scope to check both the ignition and the injectors for proper operation. just because the injector has been replaced doesnt mean that it is functioning. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

odbii has a large d shaped 16 pin connector which is usually under the dash in alignment with the steering column. http//www.gendan.co.uk/article3.html -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving tom lawrence wrote if you have personal experience using this device please comment on your assesment of its utility and quality. its a code reader... you plug it in it displays codes. not much to comment on. however - be sure your 96 van really is obd-ii - as the law required all vehicles manufactured after 1-1-96 to be obd-ii compliant. production for the 96 model year started in sept. or so of 95. ive seen other 96 vehicles that were still obd-i. how can i determine for certain that the van is obd-ii is there a distinctive diagnostic-connector shape link to a picture or perhaps the number of pins can be counted to determine obd-ii vs obd-i it was indeed manufactured in 1995 so this is something i need to figure out. .

big al wrote im considering purchasing this reader initially for diagnostics and reset on a 1996 b3500 dodge van http//www.partsamerica.com/codereaders.aspx if you have personal experience using this device please comment on your assesment of its utility and quality. thanks martin i have one and id consider selling it. what exactly do you want to know its not a lot better than the $40 ones. looks neater but functionally is about the same. al i thought this device had at least one additional feature the ability to reset the codes and cel without generating a stored 12 code. if you use the $40 reader you have to reset by battery disconnect the go through 50 starts to reset the 12 before taking the vehicle for state inspection. does yours provide this functionality if you reset the codes you will have to go through a number of restarts and run time to complete specific tests the computer runs and keeps track of regardless of what code reader you use. there is no code reader

did you do a compression check a sticky valve likely wont show up on a compression test. a worn guide usually wont either. nor will a bad lifter in many cases. it wont show up on a leak-down test but anything thats hanging up a valve will show a lower-than-normal compression. if its intermittently sticking well then yeah - youre shooting blind... but any kind of diagnosis in this case is incomplete without at least a compression check. .
