Q: greetings recently i purchased a 2001 dodge ram 1500 quad cab/ off road package with an automatic transmission with a 5.9 liter magnum gas engine. i love it except for the dismal gas mileage. on the open road holding steady at 75mph its getting 10 mpg. thats the best it does! its got one of those headliner mounted information centers that can display the current mpg. i turned the dang thing off because i dont want to see sometimes single digits for my current mpg cruising down the open road!! plus with the cruise set and driving over some hilly terrain the transmission shifts up and down more than expected. oh and when i put it in four wheel drive the front steering seems like it really binds a lot. any opinions thanks!! all sounds completly normal well the auto tranny i have no idea about but as for gas mileage your right in the ballpark and sounds like your new to a 4x4 when you put a truck in 4wd and you are not on a slippery surface things are gonna bind this is normal you have 4 wheels connected to 4 axles connected to 2 driveshafts connected to a transfer case connected to a transmission connected to the motor well you get the idea something has to give there needs to be some sort of slippage thats what you are feeling in 4wd normal binding thats why as a rule of thumb only use 4wd in areas where traction is limited and even then try to avoid tight turns in 4wd youll get used to after a while 79 t/a ws6 455 hurst 4 spd blk w/ t-tops heavily fortified 4mpg 00 ram 2500hd qc v-10 4x4blk5 spd410 lsd 10mpg 98 intruder 1400 blk 5 spd 25mpg .

on 10 feb 2004 204556 gmt mopar440@aol.comnet.org redneck tookover hell wrote the other day i was down at the library looking through some hardcover chilton/motors professional manuals i happened to look under 1980 motorhome engines. there was a 446 listed. from some information i read years ago i had always believed it was a 440 bored .030 over from the factory. i got to looking at the bore and stroke which were listed at 4.125 and 4.18 respectively. there was no picture of the engine only a partial illustration showing it had spread port intake ports such as a big block chevy uses not the siamese ports typical passenger/truck chrysler engines used is this one of those weird chrysler industrial engines such as the 361 industrial or 413 industrial with a longer stroke anyone ever seen one of these close up and personal politics the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich. 1979-80 7.3 liter heavy duty.446 is listed in a carb spec listing other than that ray barton builds 446 wedge racing engines. the industrial appears to be a .030 over 440 4.350 bore 3.750 stroke .

greetings howdy recently i purchased a 2001 dodge ram 1500 quad cab/ off road package with an automatic transmission with a 5.9 liter magnum gas engine. i love it except for the dismal gas mileage. on the open road holding steady at 75mph its getting 10 mpg. thats the best it does! its got one of those headliner mounted information centers that can display the current mpg. i turned the dang thing off because i dont want to see sometimes single digits for my current mpg cruising down the open road!! my 95 5.2 auto 4x4 will get 17 at 55 mph 15 at 65 mph. if you are really getting 10 mpg have a scanner hooked up and check for a lazy oxygen sensor. as it is still switching from rich to lean it wont set a code but gas milage suffers and power is usually down. plus with the cruise set and driving over some hilly terrain the transmission shifts up and down more than expected. it will do that. when i first got mine it had 3.55 gears and the trans would downshift on overpasses on the interstate. ive since put in 3.92 gears and the trans doesnt downshift near as easy. what you are feeling is the cruise servo opening the throttle plate to stay at the set speed if the throttle opens too far the trans will downshift. oh and when i put it in four wheel drive the front steering seems like it really binds a lot. if you are on relativly dry/wet pavement this is a normal condition. when you turn the front tires swing in a wider arc than the rear tires and you will feel this as a binding type sensation. you should only put it into 4x4 on surfaces that will allow a tire to slip a little bit. denny .

fwpp witnessprotectionprogram@imnottelling.com wrote in snipped same here. the advantage is clearly rwd because the drive wheels are different from the steering wheels. joe black 03 dakota 5.9 r/t cc calypso green 93 mustang 5.0 lx hatch with a few goodies actually that is what gives the rwd the disadvantage. with fwd the front wheels with the majority of weight pull in the direction you steer. if those front wheels are slipping the only place the car is going is out of control. no steering along with no drive traction = out of control. complete bull just because the front wheels are slipping doesnt mean that they have lost all traction just some of it. care to explain what partial traction is partial traction is a reduced traction force. perhaps you should look up the coefficient of friction and how it relates to static and moving sliding objects. if the tires lost all traction when they slide they would provide no force at all. this would mean that you could never do a donut or power slide and that a skidding car would never stop unless it hit something. when somthing is spinning it has lost traction. while true that is not completely correct. it has lost some traction not all. sometimes enough traction is lost where the force being applied is no longer enough to move the vehicle but that is not always the case. how many times did you light up the tires on your vette and i bet that it still moved. if all traction was lost then it would have just sat there and the tires would spin and never got warm. as long as you have friction you have traction. and the only question is do you have enough. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

thats going to be tough. chrysler didnt do the conversion. there are several companys that did this. mark iii choo choo customs and many others. the specs are going to change from body builder to body builder. i would look at who the conversion company was. maybe get this info from them. there is a really good chance that the company is out of bussiness though seems to happen quite a bit. these companys would buy a striped b-van and start the conversion. these vans didnt even have seats in them. good luck .
