Adjusting for better fuel economy.

Q: max dodge wrote id try replacing the governor pressure solenoid and transducer. these would affect throttle pressure and may have a fault when warm. past that with no debris its difficult to say its any of the mechanical stuff with any surety. -- max are these two parts inside the transmission if so how hard is it to do any idea on the expense a local mechanic drove it today and he says there is a problem between the splines on the output shaft from the transfer case and the drive shaft. he says that when it comes to a stop the pressure loads up where the two meet and when i take off it releases the pressure. he suggested to drop the drive shaft and lube both ends and he would almost bet the problem would stop. does this sound possible or like a load of crap thank you dirtclod .

i had a 93 with the same engine and an 87 with the same engine. between the two i had this problem which sounds similiar to yours about 4 different times. what happened is the spark plug wires were burning/melting on the exhaust manifold. all four times i replaced the bad wire and routed the wire better. also while your at it replace the dist. cap and rotor. you have to look at the wires real good. it might not be noticable right away. in all the cases the wire was damaged where i could not easily notice. good luck and i hope that this is the problem. whatever you find please post it here. this is my boys truck. it has a small v-6 with probably 130k miles drinks oil regularly but he says he keeps up with it. last week he says he is driving it and all of a sudden it starts running rough backfires a few times and that all lasts about 20 seconds or so then smooths out and runs ok. yesterday he drives to work less than a mile and parks it in their garage. after work he starts the truck it runs for about 30 seconds then turned off like someone turned the key. now it turns over but wont start. no codes. he swears there is a half a tank of fuel. im going over on sat to look at it bringing a gas can. ill check for fuel delivery and spark any other suggestions hmmmmm.... reading over this for spelling errors and i detect an ever growing suspicion of timing chain issues original chain. anybody else think this way with so little to go on does this engine have clearance to turn over with a busted chain fmb north mexico .

what does that mean what does what mean roy wrote when i rebuilt the 318 in my old d-150 it had been getting a consistent 14.5 mpg on the highway and about 11 mpg around town. quoted text clipped - 12 lines more fuel doesnt mean less mileage if you have more air to mix with it. in todays engine it means lean. it is all putor. the edge fattens up the fuel dosent do a thing for air. roy i used the edge comp 5 stage programmer in my ctd with a 4 inch exhaust and i get 18 mpg in town and 22 mpg on the highway. by adding quoted text clipped - 6 lines roy -- message posted via carkb.com http//www.carkb.com/uwe/forums.aspx/dodge-truck/200609/1 .

but its only been about 20k miles. i have a dakota 97 truck with about 87k miles on it. do i need to change the plugs i dont see any symptoms but im not sure what to look for. that long i think i might give them a light spray the night before im just trying to figure out what maintanance i need to do. im thinking of changing the coolant fluid because its been almost 4 years. but its been only 16k miles. heres the thing though about 8 months ago only 3000 miles ago i went to a dodge dealer where i got most of my work done who tested the fluid and said its fine he said good down to 0 degrees or something like that and i shouldnt bother changing it even though it was about 3.5 years at the time. so i didnt change it...not sure if i shouldnve taken their word for it and i forgot to ask them about its protection against heat not just cold. and im not sure when to get it replaced vs. flushed. i think its always been just replaced. i figure every three years. a lot of aluminum in these engines. roy other than that based on my manual i dont seem to need any other maintanence thanks. .

i know that you can adjust the computer for more horsepower but can you take some power out of it to get better fuel economy im 40 and dont care about all the power but want to save some on my 14 miles to the gallon highway. if you can how or who can do it. please dont sugest the dealer richard imo all these mileage improvement things are just to get ya to spend your money. all ya can do is tune it change the fluids and filters regularly keep the air up in the tires and drive like there is a egg under your right foot. remember it is a truck. roy .
