thanks ed! thats reassuring however it seemed to be blowing warm at best on the full heat setting when i disconnected the ac fan clutch i got hot air...also noticed the ac lines icing up before i pulled the plug. its got me thinking about just what the interior heat control controls is it actually connected to a thermostat or is just a hot water flow valve when turned on the hot side there is no hot water flow valve water flows through the heater core continuously; the heat control operates a blend door to control heat/cool. the compressor is energized in the defrost and floor/defrost modes to dehumidify the air if the hot air is only warm it might be a faulty engine coolant thermostat or a misadjusted blend door. .

the a/c works in defrost like john stated. as long as the engine does not overheat or run cold to long code p0128. i would remove the two heater hoses from the heater core and either reverse them or use your garden hose to reverse flush the heater core. chances of it being restricted are better then a issue with the cable for the blend air door and it is easier to try before removing the dash. bryan i noticed cooler air coming out of my floor vents while the passenger compartment heater was on. thinking i maybe low on coolant i opened the hood and checked radiator fluid which was fine but i noticed ac compressor was cycling double checked controls all seems fine any help would be appreciated. bob 1995 dodge ram 1500 316cid .
