if the pros can have it done and back to me in 8 hours i dont see why i would have to do that procedure. but after i replace the part i will take it to a pro to have it serviced for $50-$100 - not for $900. what part of it will probably take you longer than a pro would is hard to understand listen up the oil in the ac system is like a moisture magnet.......it will suck up moisture from the outside air whenever the system is opened up if you have a major leak in the evap coil the system has a shit-load of moisture in it already long and deep vacuum is the only way to get it out im trying to help you here.................... .

if you dont know how to do it and are asking for a manual take it to a professional. ac isnt something to mess with if you dont know what you are doing. i wouldnt have asked the question here if i wanted to take it to a professional. i did take it to a pro and they want $900 to change it. most of which is labor. i dont drive the truck and i have 2 months before im going to have to drive it. i want to change the damn evaporator because i can. while normally i would agree with you about taking an ac problem to a pro the fact that he is asking how to change the evap coil indicates it is leaking why else mess with it and if so it is most likely totally de-pressurized ive never seen a minor leak in one most times a seam has split yes the pros confirmed the evaporator coil has a leak - and only charged me $50 to tell me that. he should however take it to a pro to have it pumped and held to at least 28 of vacuum for at least 48 hours after the repair to make sure any moisture that gets in while its apart is removed.......only long and deep pumping will accomplish that. if the pros can have it done and back to me in 8 hours i dont see why i would have to do that procedure. but after i replace the part i will take it to a pro to have it serviced for $50-$100 - not for $900. and might as well have the pro recharge it since its there already. agreed but the actual replacement is probably no big deal.......other than time-consuming. thats what i was asking about - i have found enough info to get started - i spent 2 hours this morning and the dash is ready to pull. now i just need to finish gettint at the evaporator - find out what parts im gonna need and go buy them. i might use www.alldatadiy.com to get more info if i get stuck. -- homebrewer 85cj7 in progress http//85cj7.blogspot.com/ 99xj sport remove the xxx to reply! .
