Q: is too much smoke in a diesel i cant see it driving down the road but my truck sure gets dirty around the exhaust area. thats normal. do you have a dually the stock exhaust isnt long enough to clear the fender. get a 5 slide-on tip to extend the exhaust out a bit. another option is an exhaust turn-down - a 90 elbow that shoots the exhaust at the road. .

1998 ram 1500 qc 2wd auto 5.9l - 80k miles on the way home from work i smelt an electrical insulation type burning smell. shortly there after the check engine light came on. i wont have access to an obd ii scanner for a few days. is there anything i should look at that usually goes out around 80k miles relays o2 sensor i took a quick look under the hood when i got home and checked all the fuses nothing obvious jumped out at me. any thoughts is there a way to pull codes from a 98 without the obd ii scanner thanks- rich .

milpay wrote i recently had my truck modified with a 3 lift kit unfortunately since the modification two electrical problems possibly related but not sure soon developed. first problem is my light for the air bag will not extinguish and second my cruise control will not engage nor will the light illuminate. any suggestions on where to start would be greatly appreciated. have you had the clock spring fixed yet my 2001 ram was recalled for a defective clockspring in the steering wheel. the airbag light and no working cruise control were 2 of the symptoms of a bad clockspring. bob .

most current dc products like to stay in the 14.5v range which i also believe is a little to the high side but that is the way it is. the regulator is part of the pcm so just changing it out is not an option unless you like to spend big $$$$. the problem may be a combination of two things the excessive voltage common among dc products and an excessive current draw when the vehicle is not running. if your meter can read current check to see how much the truck is drawing when not running ignition off and make sure that it is how it is when you leave it. if you are drawing more than 1/2 an amp this is probably your real problem. if you want to see the voltage when driving you can use the cigarette lighter socket as a voltage source and plugs are available from radio shack for a few bucks to connect your meter too. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving well maybe. do you have a meter that will read dc voltage if so you can get a good idea. here is one easy check you can do. first read the voltage at the battery terminal posts when the ignition is turned off it should read around 12.3-12.7 volts dc then start the vehicle & check the voltage it should read around 12.8-13.6 volts dc if it is reading in the 15-16 volt range your voltage regulator is cooking the battery. now to check & see if the voltage regulator is truly staying in the charge mode too long is not worth your time to monitor how long it is engaged versus the true charge state of the battery & whether it the battery requires to be charged at that time. leave that to a reputable repair shop but they would probably just change out the voltage regulator instead of wasting the time. i hope that helps you out. on thu 17 mar 2005 091852 -0600 slick willy ddumbassbendover@yahoo.com wrote kurt mrwizard@comcast.net wrote in sounds to me that your voltage regulator is over charging your battery this is why you are low on electrolyte. is there a way to test that at my house or is this a case where i have to take it to a garage and have them run a test 1997 sfa 60920 199819992000200120022003 ama 602785 due to e-mail spamming bots my reply address is incorrect. add a - between mr and wizard this is what we have to do to prevent spamming sucks doesnt it .

surrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr tbone! spin it anyway you want. thats the hilarious thing about you democreeps and also why you will continue to lose more elections. you cant accept the fact the voters are voting *for* what the republicans are and rejecting the michael moores the whoppie goldbergs gay marriage and the whole looney left agenda. even the hildabeast has finally understanding reality. why do think she is starting a move to the right hint she wants to be the next president and has started to distance herself from howard dean and his wacko left wing nut cases. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha yea but the thing is that many didnt actually vote for bush just against kerry how sad. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving hey tbone bush kicked kerrys ass nov 2nd. rotflmao! if you have a volt meter or multi-meter you can test it yourself. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

heres the deal awhile back we found someone rummaging through our cars supposedly in search of spare change. they took nothing except a small pillow and a folder that contained my owners manual for our 1991 dodge ram van. that latter one hurt! anyway i need one of two things 1 if anyone has an owners manual they could sell me that would be great. 2 in lieu of a new manual could someone give me the layout of the fuse box im trying to locate the fuse for my backup lights but theres no diagram on the vehicle -- evidently it was just in the manual that got filched. any assistance would be deeply appreciated. thanks! john craton www.craton.net/john .

hi i have mentioned this topic before but i need a bit more detail. first i have a 2004 ram 2500 cummins 305/555 auto 4wd etc ... i got 6 years of free oil changes from the dealer. my plan was to use this service until i hit 15000 and then i was going to start changing my own oil with premium blue synthetic cummins suggestion. the oil the dealership uses is mopar 15w-40. im assuming this is probably rotella ... anyone know for sure regardless this is a 10 year truck and i want to use the best fluids in it. is it worth in your opinions using the synthetic rather than letting the dealership change my oil for free let the flaming begin ... thanks craig c. .

just what the doctor order. my guest that the combination of a performance chip and lm-1 would do the trick. ..bob wrote drew cutter wrote that my beef right now . since dodge trucks have such a bad rep. for fuel. when a person trying to do the little things to improve gas mileage. dodge and oem dont come thru. the best ive come with is performance chips. nothing to monitor how the air flow is doing or fuel. kind of worried about this summer gas prices. their doesnt seem to be a mfg. of air sensors like granatelli for gas power dodge trucks. real time monitoring of fuel mixture is pretty easy although not cheap with off the shelf parts. the lm-1 digital meter is probably about the best out there. although the halmeter is pretty good too; and for less money. am in dash gauges are pretty worthless - eye candy only. but if you want to change parameters while driving youre on you own. .

miles i give everyone a chance and often a second thru twentieth chance. ive never asked for more than that for myself. this world is too full of strife and hate already to not try to gain a bit of peace in our lives. i had thought to give it another try with a few from this group when i was emailed with questions concerning my health but i was in error. thats why i answered non-friends. oh well their loss not mine. my sewer comment is based on the fun there used to be in the group 10 years ago combined with the accuracy of information available then. now its flames and misinformation. hey if no one else cares fine why should i -- budd budd cochran wrote im not back. as a fact i had to resubscribe to post this and im leaving as soon as i can. this group is a just a sewer anymore. no its not bud. there is alot of garbage on usenet in general. i first came here about 5 years ago and there were far more bitching and pissing contests then. you just have to learn to ignore them completely. telling idiots to leave you alone is pointless. why respond to people who arent your friends .
