99 Ram Van Check Gauge light prob

From : spark

Q: 2002 dakota v6 37000 mi.--started just past 36000 mi. having a problem with intermittent surge at idle both in gear and in neutral. normal idle is about 700rpm. occasionally the idle will jump up to about 1500 then quickly back down to about 500 before settling back to normal. more than once i have had to increase brake pedal pressure to keep from hitting the vehicle ahead of me at a red light. any help is appreciated. .

i have an 04 dodge 1500 hemi with auto transmission. after putting the key in the ignition i depress the brake pedal in order to shift from park to drive. my truck wont allow me to shift no matter how many times i depress and hold the brake pedal or wiggle the shift lever until it is good and ready. does anyone have any idea what is causing this sometimes i can just get in and shift and other times it takes a minute or two. is there anything that i can check as a layman before taking it to the shop thanks howard. .

matt this postwas last year but i wondered if you got it fixed and if so what was your solution i have a 76 van / motor home conversion also and am working on similiar problems. the other posts were ok but i dont believe too relavent. i know for example that all other front end parts in mine are good. i have done the set screw tightening with little improvement. for one there are flat spots it seems. the rag joint is obvious. have you determined if these boxes are extremely prone to internal wear lowell .

nope deals off you have to drive to watch the oil pressure gauge because my eyes would be red from my beer ok...but i have to go and you will have to be or provide a designated driver as i like my beer. you probably have a faulty oil sending unit have the oil pressure tested and replace the sending unit i would bet a good steak dinner that will fix iti will send my address later where to send the steak dinner certificate i was the oil gauge dropping power. it looks as if it goes off and then back on again. oil level ok when the check gauge lamp came on did you happen to check which gauge it was oil pressure gauge dropping.volt gauge at min or mased out that is why they added that lamp cause alot of people dont watch these devices as they are operating the vehicle now when i stop at a light the check gauge light comes on for a sec or two. it seems to go away when i start to roll again. loose wire bad contact behind dash anyone have any experience with this before .

it doesnt fill in park or reverse my mistake in hte last line despite the wiplash on this subject. starting your truck a little earlier to warm it up and placing the shifter in n while it warms will help to shorten this. i expirenced the same faults on my used no manual 94 3/4 4x4. this helped to get the oil circulating in the tranny by heating it up. once it got warmer i did a complete oil change in the unit replacing the filter conducting maint as described in my new direct from the factory dodge maint manual for trucks with cummins engines. ebay special for $75. something to keep in mind is this the 904 / a500 / 727 / a518 / a618 family of automatics does not feed the converter circuit in park and only barely in reverse so if youre going to circulate the fluid it must be in neutral this is why dodges have the wont pull in reverse after sitting a few days problem; the converter drains back into the pan and doesnt fill in either park or neutral if it doesnt fill in either park or neutral how does it circulate the fluid in neutral -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .
