Q: which is the best way to perform this repair assuming i will keep the vehicle for another 100k miles go down to your local auto parts store and buy the lisle 6-piece quick-disconnect set. itll cost about $8. the 5/16 should be the one to use but buy the whole set because its cheap and you may need the other sizes for something else some day. they look like this http//www.shop.com/op/airconditioningandfuellinedisconnecttoolset-prod-22116458 be sure to relieve the fuel pressure in the rail first - if you dont have a fuel pressure gauge that has a bleed feature just pull the fuse for the fuel pump and run the engine until it quits. .

ive heard that some part of the system sorry dont know more details can freeze especially in high humidity and when it does the ac will stop working. instead of running the ac at full cold you may try selecting a temperature setting a little above max cold. if that solves the problem i would have the pressure of the 134a i assume thats what you have checked and topping it off if necessary. my a/c when it works is blowing out very cold air 40* but lately it has been working intermittently. the first time it went off was after driving it all day with a/c on. then after sitting for 24 hours i started it and the ac works and it works for a week before it quits again. this time it is early in the morning with a cold engine. let it sit again for almost a day and it works again. works good for 5 to 6 days now it is off again. worked this morning for about 20 minutes and now does not come on. the blower has always worked. still cools very well when it works but what would cause this intermittent situation thanks for all that respond. clark please email me at 4theclarks *at* comcast *dot* net .

coffee wrote tom lawrence wrote thank you sir have a great day no problem... have you made a couple of alignment dowels to get the pump lined up correctly if not theyre pretty simple to make. get a length of 5/16-18 all-thread from your local hardware store. cut two pieces about 4 long. screw these into opposite holes where the pump bolts thread into. now you can slip the gasket and pump onto the alignment dowels and start the other 5 pump bolts. unscrew the dowels and put the final two bolts in then torque them down. this is much easier than trying to line things up by hand hoping not to shift/tear the gasket in the process. thats a good idea for sure i ended up just getting lucky and it plopped nicely into place so now its all done tranny is snug against the block so now i need to psych myself up for the next part... bolting the flywheel/flex plate to the torque converter. much fun is anticipated p i wish i had thought to mention it previously... startup procedure is important as well. my torqueflite gurus recommend prefilling the torque converter before installing it. then after the transmission is installed and before starting the engine fill it with 4 or 5 quarts of atf. start the engine w/ the transmission in neutral and fill with the remaining atf as necessary. tom and others may have more specific info about this. bryan .

yes...use the new kit. when you get it and install it youll want to shoot yourself in the foot for not getting it sooner. forget the dealer fix. also spring for the thermostat they offer as well...since youre in there anyway. -- ------------------------------------------ laszlo almasi ----cool toys formerly carolina watercraft works ----mack daddy trailers ----ice angels yes it is the intake plenum not the mainfold gasket as i originally stated. furthermore i was told that dodge fixed it with the new plenum gasket and bolts i bought from the dealer. should i get this new plate anyway as long as im this far into it i could wait another week or so in order to have a more secure fix. never heard of that being the result....however we all have heard of the the intake plenum cover failing and allowing oil to be pulled into the intake however. look here get this and i think youll be happy. http//www.hughesengines.com/partdetail.asppartid=11698 -- ------------------------------------------ laszlo almasi ----cool toys formerly carolina watercraft works ----mack daddy trailers ----ice angels ive been advised that the 5.9l engine can suffer a catastrofic failure of the intake manifold gasket around 100k miles because when it fails it will suck all the oil out of the engine in a very short time only a few minutes. its apparently related to the intake manifold bolts stretching and the guy at my dealers parts department knew about it dont know if there was a tsb. therefore i am in the middle of replacing the gaskets but found an unadressed step in the dodge service manual. the dodge factory service manual fails to mention that in order to pull the throttle body assembly i must either remove the fuel rails from the intake manifold and set them aside or remove the fuel inlet line which requires a special tool i found the snap-on part number in a different chapter of the manual. which is the best way to perform this repair assuming i will keep the vehicle for another 100k miles 1 buy the special tool to remove the fuel feed from the fuel rail. 2 remove the fuel rails from the intake manifold and replace any o-rings etc that may be required. .

tom are we ever going to find out how a 8.0l retards timing under spark knock conditions sigh unfortunately i suspect that piece of information will elude us for all eternity - much like the mysteries of stonehenge atlantis and the pyramids of egypt. this is yet another in a great series of mysteries that man will never fully understand. .

you have a heavy vehicle with an anemic motor. anything operated by vacuum will eventually fail once manifold vacuum goes to zero wide open throttle. this can be delayed by using a vacuum tank fed by a check valve. this was common practice in the fifties with the vacuum operated windshield wipers in use then. of course any vacuum leak exasperates the problem. steve i just aquired a 98 dodge conversion ram van 1500 v-6 3 speed auto 106k the air cond will quit when accelerating by that i mean the cold air will start to come out the defrost ducts instead of the dash ducts .
