99 Dakota wheel bearings ...

From : slick willy

Q: i have a 99 dakota 3.9 & 5 speed with 90k on the clock. i just recently changed the original brakes/rotors in front. i removed the hub assembly to check out the condition of the wheel bearings on drivers side. they were stuck in the hub assembly pretty good and i couldnt get them to budge so i put everything back together. now i have some grinding noise thats coming from the hub assembly *not* the brakes. i confirmed this by jacking up the front of the truck removing the front wheel and spinning the hub/rotor assembly and could tell the grinding was from inside the assembly *not* the brakes. the noise is intermittent and occurs at varying speeds. i had a friend listen to the noise as i drove by his house at different speeds to confirm that grinding doesnt go away the faster i go. at times there is no noise and other times its quite loud. needless to say the truck is off the road and i find myself in a bind. my question is can i take the hub assembly to a place like midas / monroe break specialty shops to punch out the bearings i believe this is the source of the problem. also does anybody know the torque spec on the 1 3/8 bolt that holds the hub assembly on my haynes manual does not list this spec and i want to make sure its not a re-assembly issue. thanks to all those who can offer assistance. -- regards slick willy remove the bendover to reply .
