its a 24v 1998.5 it runs perfectly below that point smoothly as it always has. ill check all the hoses tomorrow to the turbo...the turbo was replaced in the last 1000 miles....maybe it is a hose...makes sense with the high air pressure it would do something like that thx. .

i would follow toms advice. blowing smoke and that low of mileage indicates a problem and i would get it in for diagnostics asap before any further possibly expensive to repair damage can occur. you give up on trying to explain automatic transmissions you dig this gem out of that treasuretrove of vast automotive knowledge lardass troll politics the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich. .

heres the diag from the cummins mechanic the fuel filter was clogged even though my brother said it wasnt last night... i dont know if he examined it carefully -/ and the fuel pump that is 1/2 between the tank and engine that mixes fuel with air has issues and is mixing too much air apparently dodge acknowledges it as an issue and is replacing it free of charge in situations like this low miles. so ill see if i get the $200 pump for free thank you all very very much for your help and advice!! .

now it could have been that the lift pump was sucking air. and i already said that was the problem 2 days ago. there is no excuse for a plugged fuel filter. somebodys too lazy to do any maintenance politics the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich. .

mopar440 - i changed it 4 fill-ups ago. i change it every 8-10 fill-ups. so i dont usually suspect that as a problem anyway. .

oh another thing... i get a little under 13mpg w/ a 3.1 rear. is that bad yes especially since dodge only offered a 3.55 or a 4.10 rear axle for that year. blue smoke is oil being burned. lots of possibilities here... valve guides shaft seals in the turbo excessive blow-by from worn rings head gasket etc. etc. it sounds like your best bet is to take it to a shop and have them look at it. if youre out of warranty on the engine and you probably are over on the 5 year portion id seek out an independent cummins shop vs. a dealership. they know the engine better and will charge less mainly because they wont spend as much time on it as a dealership would trying to diagnose the problem. .
