with a new stronger water pump it did the heater core in. anyway. is this a job a novice shade tree mechanic me can tackle without skining too many knuckles as long as you take it to a shop and get the a/c recovered first yes. the book says you have to pull the whole heater box assy. out. is that correct would mean pumping down the a/c before hand. unfortunately yes. the heater core is inside the hvac unit which has to be removed. in order to remove that both the heater hoses and the a/c hosts have to be disconnected. just started happening too. i think something maybe a vaccum check valve or something is acting up. yep - either the check valve is busted or you have a vacuum leak somewhere. on it and runs and looks great. anyone know if and when i do wear it out one of the new hemis would fit in it or is that a major transplant thanks in major transplant. if when the time comes you want to keep the truck consider having the engine rebuilt first. beyond that look at swapping in a new long block of the same displacement either 318 or 360 whichever you have. if you have a 318 you can pretty easily go up to a 360 - couple of parts have to be changed but nothing near the complication of trying to stuff a 2003 engine into a 1997 truck. .
