Q: tom thank-you for the concise answers to my questions. i wasnt sure if the lighter worked only with the ignition-on or not. ive never used it but of course it would be simple to check. as for the dimmer circuit ill tap in just as you say. i have seen those posi-lock connectors you mentioned at genos garage but have not seen them yet in canada. no matter i was planning on soldering the connections anyhow. thanks again. kevin .

ive been having adventures in starting with this truck and i was wondering if any fault code data is retrievable that would help in diagnostics. i dont want to take it to a shop just for them to be changing parts to find out whats wrong. batteries are new. i thought maybe it was the ignition switch but now im not too sure. sometimes in starting i just hear clicks a few times and then it starts. many variations but very sporadic. may not do it for a week or so. a couple times i think its towtruck time ten minutes later it starts totally normal wtf. thanks bill this ones easy you need some new starter contacts. many on the tdr swear by these http//www.fostertruck.com/dodge/default.htm .

the old hubs and spindles out. the problem is that when i put them back in i must have tore the seals in the pig assembly. can anyone tell me where the seals are located and how to get them out. ouch... the passenger-side axle seal can be replaced through the cad opening but the drivers side requires removing the whole differential as the seal is located in the axle tube close to the differential housing. aside from removing the differential a special puller tool is needed to install the new seals. im afraid this is a pretty involved job. are you sure the seals are leaking and its not just axle lube that spilled over the seals into the axle tubes while you had the axles out .

the irony i encountered in the early 90s while stationed in the uk is that come of the lighting modifications made and mandated by the military establishment were not at all necessary. for some reason those supporting the us forces thought that turn signals needed to be amber vehicles need the rear fog lamp and front parking lamps needed to be 5w and white. this understanding of the vehicle code simply was not true and many paid for these modifictions unnecessarily. the motor vehicle code only requred that all vehicles manufactured for sale in the uk have these features. this was confirmed by several frustrated mot inspectors to whom the modifications did not make sense either. for whatever reason those advising the military establishment felt it necessary to offer poor advice to our commanders many of whom also paid to have their vehicles modified. the kicker is that some of the modifications are very tricky to undo once the vehicle returns to the states. if for example the vehicle shares bulb filaments for brake and turn signal the modification to create a seperate lead for each could be quite extensive. im not sure where this lunacy came from but im saddened to see that it still exists. you may want to check and see how they wired the front 5w bulbs if they are still doing that. when mine was done they unplugged the wrap-around parking lamps effectively making my car invisible from either side at intersections. i promptly plugged them back in and never heard another word. from my perspective the only thing that should have been checked and changed if necessary are the headlights. ours tend to illuminate with a fairly fuzzy cut-off favoring the right side of the roadway. ukcontinental verions have a very crisp cut-off and favor the leftright side of the highway. for those who have been anywhere in europe you probably noticed that some vehicles appear to have very dim headlights thats not necessarily the case. youre just not getting blinded by them because their light is being focused at the roadway. some modern xenon designs in the us also appear dim until you get hit with them cresting a hill. as a corollary those of is who drive us-spec vehicles in europe have become accustomed to being flashed because our light pattern throws more light into oncoming traffic and resembles the european high beam. and those with us spec pick-up trucks should be prepared for to provoke all sorts of ire with a set of lamps throwing light all over the place from 5 feet in the air. my 2 cents. when i was stationed in the uk the rear red sometimes amber was a rear marker light that was used when driving in dense fog. they dont stop much may slow down some so you were required by law to have that else you get run over. the white one i am not sure about were shipping a ram srt-10 back to england after an engine rebuild and i noticed two lamps under the rear bumper. one white and the other red. whats the significance of these thanks ralph .

i have a 94 ram 1500 4x4 with bfgoodrich 285-75r-16 mud terrain which are great tires by the way. yes going with bigger tires will throw off your speedometer reading so you should have it adjusted by a shop i think its the law although that choice is left to you. i havent had any issues with gearing or transmission problems but the bigger tires give slower acceleration if you care about that and add weight and are less aerodynamic assuming you will be getting tires with an aggressive tread. on the plus side they look awesome and fill out the wheelwells better and make the truck sit up higher. cjc1200@gmail.com wrote i currently have lt245-70-r-16 on the truck....i saw another truck the same model and year with lt285-75r-16..........will using a slightly larger tire mess up gearing or affect the transmission automatic or rear diff thanks charlie the oc .

just got a 06 quad 1 ton srw long bed slt. i went through a fleet dealer and he found what i wanted and saved me in my case $3000. you might be able to do the same. costco and aaa have leads to a dodge fleet dealer check them out. thanks for all the replies to my previous message. ive been considering a 3/4 ton pu. dodge w/cummins being the #1 choice right now. local dealer doesnt seem to have any 2006 four door quad cab laramie my desired choice 2500 2wd cummins left. but he does have two laramie cummins quad cab 3500s in colors i could live with. both are priced right at 34.5k. im looking for something to tow a 25 to 30 airstream trailer. tow weight on the as is in the 8 to 10k range. would i be making a mistake to upgrade to a 3500 just because the dealer seems to have a couple left that are a good deal i drove the 3500 and it still drives better than the competitions 250 and 2500s. does 34.5k seem like a pretty decent deal on a 2006 four door quad cab 3500 laramie cummins any knocks on the 2006 model year somewhere i had the impression dodge was switching over to a larger cummins dsl maybe a 6.7l around the first of the year. around here the word seem to be the switch will be some undetermined time in the future. what the scoop on the 6.7l thanks for any input. springing for a 30k plus us pickup is something i never thought id be contemplating but you have to let your prejudices go sometimes. bb .

while i am against tax breaks for big businesses which seem to happen no matter who is in office and some other policies i think gb is doing a good job overall. i guarantee that if we had not gone into iraq although i think a major factor in this issue was iraqs oil everyone especially the media would be in a frenzy about how dangerous they are and how stupid we are for not taking action such as with north korea now. now this is easy for me to say as i sit here safe and sound and type this many many thanks to our soldiers but i think we need to be on the offensive in fighting terrorism. its no good just sitting here peacefully and waiting to be attacked. so i think the foreign policy is pretty good but some domestic policies could be better. roy wrote just for the hell of it and to learn about peoples mindset. do you think gb is doing a good job as president try to answer with out the usual bs. who am i kiddingg roy .

im sorry some of the people here have to be so rude and immature and complain so much rather than trying to help people. you will not be able to get much more power out of the engine without spending gobs of money supercharger hyperchip etc.. intake/exhaust mods would give a power increase but it probably wouldnt even be noticeable. also if youre going to be towing decent sized things you may want to upgrade the rear suspension with helper springs or air bags to eliminate tail sag which happens a lot in weighed down dakotas. being a ram owner i dont know of typical dakota problems but this site has some recalls that could give you a good idea of common problems http//www.internetautoguide.com/auto-recalls/67-int/1997/dodge/dakota/base/index.html leon taylor wrote i just bought a 97 dodge dakota sport 146000 miles with a v-6 engine and 4 speed auto trans . i am wanting info on getting more power from the engine .i know a upgrade in the exhaust and intake air would be a good place to start but if any one has any suggestions where to go after that i would value your info. also i would like to know if these trucks in /around the same year model have any common problems. thank you. .

i have a 96 ram 1500 4x4 with a 5.2l automatic tranny. i changed the thermostat the other weekend because it appeared to be stuck open. while changing the thermostat i noticed the temperator sensor at least i think it is the temperature sensor was cracked and bent over. this sensor is located behind the alternator right next to the cooling line running to the heater core. i purchased a new temperature sensor from an aftermarket store but i dont think it will work. the new sensor has two electrical connectors on it. the one that is on my truck has a spot for two electrical connectors be only one is there. the connection to the wiring harness has a spot for two wires but only one is there. i looked close by to see if it has been pulled out but it is not there. i called several chrysler dealers and their part guys do not have a listing for a single wire temperature sensor for this truck. i also talked to three other aftermarket guys and they do not have a listing for a single wire sensor either. i have looked at the wiring diagram from chrysler and there are supposed to be two wires at the connector for the temperature sensor. is this the temperature sensor is there a tsb that makes a modification here has anyone encountered this before thanks .

i just bought a 97 dodge dakota sport 146000 miles with a v-6 engine and 4 speed auto trans . i am wanting info on getting more power from the engine .i know a upgrade in the exhaust and intake air would be a good place to start but if any one has any suggestions where to go after that i would value your info. also i would like to know if these trucks in /around the same year model have any common problems. thank you. you have a nine year old truck that has almost 150000 miles on it. treat it with respect and it will serve you well within its capabilities. forget about getting big increases out of exhaust and air filters. i have a 97 longbed with the 3.9 with 195000 miles on it. its not meant to be a go-fast. ken .

earl i have done this swap on my 96. it was easy. only had 2 problems. the 318 is internally balanced and the 360 is externally balanced. so you must use the 360 balancer and the 360 flexplate. the torque converter doesnt matter. you may use the 318 computer but you must use the 360 injectors. please note the electric connectors for the injectors may be different. if so wire in the 360 connectors to the 318 harness. also make sure you have enough water temp sensors in the inlet manifold casting. i had 2 on the 318 and only one on the 360 so i drilled and tapped the manifold to accomodate the 318 harness. steve i have a 92 4x4 auto 318 with a busted 318... bought it that way. i have a 360 engine i just bought from a wrecked 1500 1995 auto 4 x 4 ive done some research and know i have to have a 350 torque converter. my 95 harmonic balancer is damaged but i cant use the 318.. right my vin is 1b7gg23y8ns556379 what transmission do i have. im planning to go with the 92 computer the 92 fuel rail they have different fuel lines the 95 injectors the 92 starter the 92 exhaust headers they are still attached to the exhaust the 92 oil pan the 95 was damaged in the wreck any other issues earl groce advance nc .

sarcasm mode at warp factor 300 im sorry i didnt know you were my nanny this week. gosh id sure like it if mum to let me know these things. oh dear she cant. she passed away in 81. i guess you are the new net nany. youll decide what question gets asked sure some of them are repeated but so what sarcasm reduced to impulse speed obviously you have not been in this group for very long or you would know there are an average of about 8 of these i-bought-a-v-6-and-i-want it-to-run-like-a-viper-or-a-peterbuilt posts per year if not more. i think you might have hit on why the question was asked. im sorry if you cant understand how it gets tiresome listening to these whiners about how they didnt use their god given brains to figure out that a v-6 isnt going to tow that 50 foot fifth wheel over colorados monarch pass over 11000 feet or turn the quarter mile faster than a aa/fd or get better gas mileage than a 50 cc moped. kinda like listening to you when ya go on one of these rantsvbg or worse; how they think a k$n airfilter with a tornado device in the carb / throttle body and magnets on the fuel lines will cause all those things to magically happen. agreed the above are a waste of money. now killfile me and go bother someone else. now there is some worthwhile advice. cmon ya old fart lighten up. your making it too easy. gbg roy -- budd cochran john 316-17 ephesians 28-9 romans 323 623 our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. it is wholly inadequate for the government of any other. john adams roy wrote budd cochran wrote you get a 239 cubic inch v-6 in a 4000+ pound vehicle and you want it to do 0-60 in less than a heartbeat . . . easy fill the back end with nitroglycerine and slam the liftgate. i find myself wondering which is the more stupid you for buying an underpowered for your needs apparently vehicle or me for wanting to ask you what the heck were you thinking for not considering it could be underpowered for what you need it to do. you might look for a better computer chip a some kind of supercharger there was one advertised in the group the other day or a vehicle with the engine you really need in it. so the cummins owners cant be too bright either. theyre always looking for more they should have bought 5-ton trucks. why i can get a hell of a lot more out of mine. do you have any idea how detuned these engines are apparently not. i just reread my previous post it was a lot harsher than intended sorry. these cummins have gobs of room for horsepower increases. i believe with the smarty program you can pick up in the area of 60 additional horsepower. im not bashing cummins. but leon just bought a dodge and asked a couple nice questions and said thank you and then... im sure budd is rereading his post too. -- posted via a free usenet account from http//www.tera.com .
