'97 Dakota stumbles under load at low rpm

From : todd

Q: hahahaha! best response yet! carl um sounds like a serious problem. i know my fuel economy dropped when i started leaving my truck running overnight and for the life of me i cant seem to figure what has caused this. has anyone else corrolated a direct relationship between use of thier block heater and dramaticilly higher electric bills just as cold last month but bill was much lower. and i was away this month i plugged in the ol gal 2 x on exceptionally cold mornings and this month my bill was about double. on sat 08 jan 2005 191426 gmt goat fake@not-real.net wrote the block heater probably draws around 800 watts or so. assuming 800 watts for 8 hours that would be 6.4 kw & assuming you are paying 8 cents for every kwh that would be $.51 for every 8 hours of use. goat so doing the math bob used the block heater two nights. goat figured that cost $1.02 cents. bob says he electric bill was double what it usually is. id sure like to have a $2.04 electric bill for a month! ;- greg is he talking about december did he have christmas lights on at his house inside or out was it cold enough for his heat to come on more often and does his heat and / or hot water use electricity in some way i doubt that any engine heater could double anyones electric bill in two days unless like you say his bill is normally a few dollars a month. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving .

id like to change my stock 1.6 rocker arms to 1.7 rollers in my 01 5.9 both for the slight performance increase and because it will give me something to do. of course cost of the project is always an issue. now im cruising through the crane catalog and i find a couple of similarities. both the magnum and the sbf both have pedestal mount rocker arms. also both engines use the same stud conversion kit. with the kit both engines can use the same energizer rocker arms and the same push rods. but the energizer rocker arms are available in 1.6 ratio only for this application. but im sure with the conversion kit you could use any sbf part. now in further research through the catalog i notice a crane pn 44746-16 for a sbf available from jegs for $200. this is listed as a 1.7 ratio pedestal mount with stands rails and shim kit. then i perused the jegs catalog for roller type rocker arms 1.7 ratio for a pedestal mount sbf. i found pn 778-66878 from pro-form. this is apparently a bolt on application with a needle bearing fulcrum for $165. another advantage is that the pedestal mounts are self aligning and dont need guide plates. therefore they dont need hardened push rods. however i would expect to need taller valve covers to clear some of these bigger rocker arms. do the harland sharps fit under the st

im wondering is there any reason that these ford parts wont fit on a magnum sure the harland sharp rockers are much better. and if i was racing this truck id spend the $500 and buy them. but this is a street truck and the stock rocker arms will last longer than the rest of the truck. so i really dont need racing parts especially when its $300+ more. -- ..bob 1997 hd fxdwg - turbocharged! 2001 dodge dakota qc 5.9/4x4/3.92 1966 mustang coupe - daily driver 1966 ffr cobra - ongoing project . 222 298679 acgf31tjkmhu270uf83t9bjifqj7vqoh06@4ax.com on 3 mar 2005 095306 -0800 dakota2112 dakota2112@yahoo.com wrote im curious... how many miles have people been getting out of their clutches specifically in dakota trucks i have a 97 dakota cc v6 5 speed 2 wheel drive 3.21 gears bought new off the lot. my original clutch has made it to 150000 miles. mostly highway i dont tow often and i usually drive with utmost respect for my clutch disk by minimizing slippage during clutch operation. i have never noticed any change in the clutch pedal and i have never smelled any burning clutch... but i know its only a matter of time before i do. any ideas how many miles these clutches can realistically last if treated reasonably my dak 5.2 - 5 speed clutch lasted over 150k - i replaced it with a centerforce 2 and love it.. the old one couldnt hold second gear anymore. .

it sounds crazy but try a new heavy duty battery in the truck. the engine controller software does not reset the ais stepper motor that controls the idle speed driver if the battery voltage goes too low for the driver but is high enough that the microprocessor does not get reset due to under voltage at the start of cranking. on 26 dec 2004 084155 -0800 danremovemesanders@attremoveme.net dansanders@att.net wrote 5.9 1500 starts and then stalls. it has gotten progressively worse over the last month. at first it would run fine and then i would drive away from the house about a half mile to about the third stop sign and the truck would stallengine would die. it would start up and i would have to keep the throttle pushed down a little to keep it running. now it stalls anytime i dont have the throttle pressed down. i think its a sensor problem but havent ruled out anything. any ideas thanks dan .
