start by verifying the cooling system is full. then look for blocked coolant flow thru the heater core... stuck water control valve... kinked hose... air-locked hose or heater core etc. bryan hello group i have a 97 dakota 4 cylinder 2wd standard pick up. recently the heater stopped working i replaced the thermostat but still no heat. if i turn the switch to heat but dont turn on the fan a little heat comes out of the vents but if i turn on the fan all i get is cool air. any help so i can take care of this problem myself would be appreciated. robert. .

i have the same problem with my 97 ram 1500. ive checked that water in moving through the core but i get barely any heatand i mean barely if i turn the fan on all i get is cold air also. i thought that i was getting cold air from the outside but i can find no outside vent. surely someone has been through this problem too. hello group i have a 97 dakota 4 cylinder 2wd standard pick up. recently the heater stopped working i replaced the thermostat but still no heat. if i turn the switch to heat but dont turn on the fan a little heat comes out of the vents but if i turn on the fan all i get is cool air. any help so i can take care of this problem myself would be appreciated. robert. .

it pulls in outside air through the cowl vents. that sounds like the blend air door is either stuck or its control cable has popped off. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving i have the same problem with my 97 ram 1500. ive checked that water in moving through the core but i get barely any heatand i mean barely if i turn the fan on all i get is cold air also. i thought that i was getting cold air from the outside but i can find no outside vent. surely someone has been through this problem too. hello group i have a 97 dakota 4 cylinder 2wd standard pick up. recently the heater stopped working i replaced the thermostat but still no heat. if i turn the switch to heat but dont turn on the fan a little heat comes out of the vents but if i turn on the fan all i get is cool air. any help so i can take care of this problem myself would be appreciated. robert. .

ok... i know where your talking but what keeps the rain/snow/etc out of the heater system just wondering. the air comes thru the cowl that area at the bottom of the windshield where the wipers are. denny ive look for any exterior vent i can find. do you know where they are located it pulls in outside air through the cowl vents. that sounds like the blend air door is either stuck or its control cable has popped off. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving i have the same problem with my 97 ram 1500. ive checked that water in moving through the core but i get barely any heatand i mean barely if i turn the fan on all i get is cold air also. i thought that i was getting cold air from the outside but i can find no outside vent. surely someone has been through this problem too. hello group i have a 97 dakota 4 cylinder 2wd standard pick up. recently the heater stopped working i replaced the thermostat but still no heat. if i turn the switch to heat but dont turn on the fan a little heat comes out of the vents but if i turn on the fan all i get is cool air. any help so i can take care of this problem myself would be appreciated. robert. .

as the air is pulled in thru the screen it goes into a fairly large open area. there are drains for the water to run out. the airflow then gets pulled thru another vertical opening going thru the firewall into the heater system. sometimes a leaf can get sucked in but its rare for water to get that far. denny ok... i know where your talking but what keeps the rain/snow/etc out of the heater system just wondering. the air comes thru the cowl that area at the bottom of the windshield where the wipers are. denny ive look for any exterior vent i can find. do you know where they are located it pulls in outside air through the cowl vents. that sounds like the blend air door is either stuck or its control cable has popped off. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving i have the same problem with my 97 ram 1500. ive checked that water in moving through the core but i get barely any heatand i mean barely if i turn the fan on all i get is cold air also. i thought that i was getting cold air from the outside but i can find no outside vent. surely someone has been through this problem too. hello group i have a 97 dakota 4 cylinder 2wd standard pick up. recently the heater stopped working i replaced the thermostat but still no heat. if i turn the switch to heat but dont turn on the fan a little heat comes out of the vents but if i turn on the fan all i get is cool air. any help so i can take care of this problem myself would be appreciated. robert. .

i am not familiar with the heater control for the dakota but the ram has a recirculate position one notch from off. if yours has it and im sure that it does move the control into that position and it will close the outside air door no cold outside air when the truck moves. -- if at first you dont succeed youre not cut out for skydiving i have tried to remove the dashboard but it is very extensive. does anyone have trick that i can use to block the outside air cowl hello group i have a 97 dakota 4 cylinder 2wd standard pick up. recently the heater stopped working i replaced the thermostat but still no heat. if i turn the switch to heat but dont turn on the fan a little heat comes out of the vents but if i turn on the fan all i get is cool air. any help so i can take care of this problem myself would be appreciated. robert. .
