96 dakota v-6 auto trans wont shift out of 2nd to drive

Q: i just bought this truck and at first when you came to a stop it didnt shift down to first it would start out in second gear now it starts in first and shifts to second and wont go into third or overdrive anyone have any suggestions this got worse after i blew a radiator hose and overheated badly. .
