Q: erik wrote i currently own a 2002 1500ram 4.7l auto 4x4 that did not come from the factory with a tow package. i have so far added a hitch and changed the rear diff fluid to the recommended 75w-140 fluidi think i read this in a tsb. my question is to get the equivalent of the factory tow package do i simply need to add a transmission cooler or is there anything else im missing the wiring plug at the hitch and under the dash for the brake controller. the factory also requires the hd service group which includes a bigger battery and alternator. is it possible to have too large a trans cooler thus preventing the trans from reaching the right temp boy thats a can of worms. ill bet you get 20 answers to this one. but heres what ive learned over the years. its important the fluid temp be stable and relativly cool. so you want a cooler that will keep it cool in the worst conditions but not too cool in light use on cold days. when i have added a cooler i install the largest one i can fit. then i route the fluid through the auxillary cooler for the cooling effect and then through the radiator tank for the stabilizing effect. i believe that is how my dakota is plumbed from the factory. but the service manual doesnt show it so i could be wrong. -- ..bob 97 h-d fxdwg - turbocharged!! 01 dakota quad sport 5.9/auto/4x4 83 gmc jimmy beater 66 427sc cobra replica - project 66 mustang coupe - daily driver -----= posted via feeds.com uncensored usenet =----- http//www.feeds.com - the #1 group service in the world! -----== over 100000 groups - 19 different servers! =----- .
