96 Caravan mystery noise

Q: as a devoted and life-long ford man i humbly approach each of you for your help. i have driven ford trucks my entire life i know what quirks to expect when what preventative maintenance measures to take and what i can expect as a whole out of a ford. ford trucks have been good to me. i am currently driving a 1994 ranger with 170000 miles on it. it aint pretty but its reliable. i plan to keep this truck until 200000 and then whatever happens happens. this past weekend a friend told me his dad has a 2000 dodge ram 1500 slt company truck for sale. the company is replacing this truck with another and only wants to clear whats left on the loan which is $3800. so i have the opportunity to buy this truck which has the 5.2l v8 and only 40000 miles for $3800. i know this is a damned good deal. what i dont know is what to expect from it. what is a typical mileage before an engine rebuild is necessary what kind of mileage are people getting out of the transmission automatic would you rate the dodge engine to be shad-tree mechanic friendly i do all my own maintenance except for the big stuff. what are your gripes about dodge what are your praises about dodge i will likely buy this truck but whether i keep it or flip it for a profit is still undecided. i wont be towing anything and i wont be doing anything with it that it isnt rated for....like i said im getting by with a ranger for now. any and all comments would be greatly appreciated. dont hold the fact that my blood runs blue against me a good truck is a good truck is a good truck. i just need to know if the general consensus is that the ram 1500 is a good reliable truck. thank you. .

cv joints are the most likely culprits. try turning the wheel and doing a 360 at slow speed in a parking lot. hang your head out the side window. popping and clicking from the front point to the joints. grinding is more likely the brakes. good luck anyone have any ideas on what the problem may be on the noted vehicle whats happening is while driving a grating type feeling is noticed through the steeing wheel accompanied by a type of clunking noise. the noise apparently cant be heard by anyone else in the vehicle and yes the drivers can hear and feel it. thanx .
