94 Dakota Heater Core and AC exchanger replacement
From : william
Q: my heater is pumping cool air again i backflushed it last year and it did great for a long time. i also have an intermittent ac leak. i finally traced it to the exchanger under the dash. i could hear it leaking inside the cab and i saw the gas leaking out of the drain in front of the firewall. i think my best option would be to replace the heater core and the ac exchanger if that is what it is called at the same time. what is involved with pulling this out from the dash also where is the best place to find the parts thanks william. ps i appreciate all spam. .

i posted earlier about a buzzing coming from the front and after reading the replies i decided that the problem is probably the bearings. when i turn the car right the buzzing stops but when i turn it left it keeps going. which wheel does this mean is causing the noise also i couldnt find the bearings anywhere online or at any auto parts store and when i called the dealer they said that they were like $310! its a 1998 4wd 5.9l rear wheel abs if that helps. can someone give me advice thanks matt call midas. they did mine for around $150. .

i also have an intermittent ac leak. i finally traced it to the exchanger under the dash. i could hear it leaking inside the cab and i saw the gas leaking out of the drain in front of the firewall. lol...no..you didnt. hard to see whats odorless and colorless and is a gas... i am obiously no expert but i could hear it. i also had some fluorescent leak detector dye in the system. i swabbed some of whatever was comming out of the drain in the firewall and held it under a black light. wasnt hard to see it then. bill. .

i replaced the heater core in my 89 dakota. what a pain! and the heater core sprung a leak so i had it done again by a shop. save yourself the grief have a shop do it. the cost of draining and refilling the ac was a lot more than the labor cost for the core replacement. good luck! -- bob 01 dodge ram 1500 4x4 .
