Q: i wish my 04 hemi ram had that what a gas hog! youre correct. the new pontiac gto is fasterwith a smaller engine 0-60 and in the 1/4 mile than the old gto with 389 cu in engine! i wonder if the new charger can make that claim i doubt it. anyone know if there is any move in dodge to have the hemi shut down cylinders when not needed to save on gas yep - its called the mds system. all the cars that have the hemi magnum charger 300c have this in place. i thought i heard it was going to be added to the rams and durangos for the 06 models. essentially its a lifter that can disconnect itself preventing the cam from actuating the valves. obviously the fuel injector is also shut down though the spark plugs continue to fire due to the hemis one coil fires two spark plugs arrangement. four of the eight cylinders deactivate - the same four cylinders all the time. this seems counter-intuitive but chrysler claims they have detected no adverse wear patterns on the non-deactivated cylinders. time will tell i guess... more than youd ever want to know about the hemi can be found in part here http//www.allpar.com/mopar/new-mopar-hemi.html great article and info! what people fail to see is that todays engines are more reliable powerful and technologically superior to the engines of even 10 years ago. oil is the life beat of any engine proper type is imperative and you really need to be anal on changing the oil too. there are some draw backs with technology on todays engines they are costlier to maintain however if properly maintained on the average provide far better service life that the older engines of 20 years ago. i know some will argue and before you do contact pat goss at http//www.patgosscarworld.com/ probably the fore most expert in the automotive field he will set you strait. the man knows everything about almost every vehicle and manufacturer. he has never been wrong in all the years i have been listening to him both on the radio and on motor week. i know this looks like an advertisement but the truth is i just which i knew what the man has forgotten. -- coasty remove the spooge to reply .

dlc wrote after trying unsuccessfully on my own to diagnose a stalling problem i took the pickup into procare. they found that the distributor gear is badly worn so that the timing is affected leading to the stall and often a backfire in the exhaust. fuel pressure egr valve and injectors are all good. this solution was previously suggested by users of this group. procare wants $1022 plus tax to do this repair. they say the major cost is to remove and reinstall the intake manifold in order to get to the gear. the local dodge dealer wants about $300. they say the gear can be replaced without removing the manifold. each party suggests the other estimate is way wrong. i would appreciate comments. dlc there are two gears. one is part of the camshaft. the other is part of the distributor. the camshaft gear drives the distributor gear. it sounds like procare wants to change the camshaft and the distributor gear while the dealer wants to change the distributor gear alone. -- ken .

wow ... here you go getting passionate again. being a tree hugger myself i had to think long and hard about owning a diesel since they are capable for producing more pollution than a gas engine. however i do believe that bio-diesel is the future of diesel fuel. which so far has very promising stats when it comes to pollution. i think that we will be able to start using it within the next year here in dallas. http//www.dfwbiodiesel.com/biodiesel.html we as a nation are in the process of rounding the corner finally on alternative fuel vehicles. until that becomes the mainstream we are bound by our own ignorance lack of public transportation in most cites and urban sprawl requiring long commutes. however the future is bright compared to 25 years ago. spewing its billionths of tons of pollutants on the unsuspecting lichen and tree moss indiginous to the area. your technical sense of humor is always good for a laugh. however it isnt the loss of moss that chaps my ass. its when i coast over a hill at 190 and midway and i see a greenish-grey ring surrounding the city. thats not good for anything or anyone. craig c. .

how about sitting in traffic or even parking it and god forbid you think about others on the road. is he considering others when hes doing the job with a vehicle that uses twice as much fossil fuel at a higher level of refining to boot i personally am proud of my contributions to the environment by using a vehicle that makes far more efficient use of our precious dwindling holy-crap-were-gonna-run-out-tomorrow limited supply of long-chained hydrocarbons. and given that carbon is the building block of life i figure contributing a little here and there into the lower atmosphere is only promoting that life. .

tom lawrence tnloaswpraemnmcien5g@earthlink.net wrote in i seem to rmember something here about a blocked drain tube is it easy to find/clean or should i just take it to dealer look on the bottom of the firewall passenger side just above the wheel well for a little rubber 90 elbow. this is the drain. snake a pipe cleaner up in there and see if you can unclog it. the 03 at least mine doesnt have the elbow - its a straight pipe that exits the firewall horizontally. this is part of the problem in that the drip from the drain can be blown back into the cab as the truck is moving. the solution was to seal the area around the drain to prevent the drip from coming back in. joe 03 dakota 5.9 r/t cc 93 mustang 5.0 lx hatch with a few goodies .
